We stayed 2 nights over New Year's. Rick, one of the staff, called me earlier in the day to confirm our arrival time an suggested alternative routes for the drive from San Diego to avoid construction zones. Check-in was prompt. The lobby is stocked with assorted snacks, DVDs and books. We had one of the smaller rooms and it was a bit tight for two people. Room was equipped with TV, DVD player, wall-mounted electric fireplace, and small kitchenette. Grounds were well-maintained.

This hotel is situated on a quiet street, with at least one other hotel on it -- you are tucked away a bit, but it's really easy to get to places like Mr Lyons Streakhouse or El Mirasol and a quick jaunt to other restaurants and bars farther north.

These are basically little houses - colorful little houses with full kitchens arranged around a very pleasant pool area. The amenities are basic and dated, but honestly this is part of charm and the wifi works fine. We stayed here to get away from the city and from crowds and even though there were other guests at the hotel, everyone was just...chilling.

This is really one of those places where you could arrive for the weekend and then work a few days from your cabin and just not feel rushed. The rooms are nice and sunny, the bed was fine...I have nothing but fond memories of this place and it's easy recommend.

I found this treasure by word of mouth by cafe jasmine in the city of palm springs. You walk in a lush palm tree garden with many trees and amazing large bungalows with their own private walled in gardens. The units even offer kitchens and indoor and outdoor dining spaces and huge bedrooms with a king size bed. I loved the decoration and two tv's so we could both watch what we liked most. It is amazing right here. The panoramic mountain views are insane and the proximity to the cool restaurants helps to get the most into your palm springs time. Felt very safe with the outdoor entry and super clean unit and staff was so friendly, truly distanced but always there if you need them.

If I could give this property a zero, I would. First of all, don’t expect an office or any contact other than a text or phone conversation when they choose to answer.
We arrived and called the phone number on record, and were told we were upgraded to The Elizabeth Taylor Suite! So far, sounds good, right? We were given a gate code and lock box code for the key. We opened the door to discover the bed was an old hide a bed, which was made up and the stained couch cushions were stacked up as a headboard. We called the number back and explained this was not acceptable, so he gave us the lockbox code for the studio next door. Upon opening the door we instantly smelled stale urine. Upon trying to call again, no answer. We received a text asking us to text as he was on the other line.
I text explained that the room was not acceptable, explained the odor and requested a refund …. SILENCE until I text two more times noting I would like confirmation that we would receive a refund.
Late that night I received a response saying the rooms are all sanitized with environmentally safe products, blah, blah, blah and noting he would not refund our balance.
We are not picky travelers but trust me … this was the worst property I have ever seen! We were initially impressed with the pictures online and thought it looked quaint. It is horrible, however they must have an amazing photographer!
Granted, I made the reservation hastily as I have since googled the property to find several very negative reviews. The response to any negative review is the deflect by coming up with excuses to blame the customer.
The hospitality industry is based on customer reviews, word of mouth and repeat business. Trust that we will tell everyone we know to steer clear of this business.
Extremely unprofessional!
The sad honest truth is that if they paid any attention to customer reviews and input they could have an amazing property. Unfortunately they are not interested.

I stayed in the Elizabeth Taylor suite with a few friends and there wasn't enough seating for all of us inside the living room, it was too hot inside the suite, and management did weird things.

There was one couch (3-seater) and one patio (2-seat) table to serve as the kitchen table. The property looked freshly painted, so some cabinets in the kitchen would not open and there were several painting mistakes when you looked at the ceiling. I'm hardly for aesthetics, but the bare minimum at a hotel should be to at least have a decent paint job.

The cleanliness was good and the outside property looked quaint and well-maintained. I wish I could say the same about the suite. The floor was dirty and the outside furniture was full of dust (obviously expected for the outdoors, but a quick wipe down would have been nice before we checked in).

Our AC wasn't on or working well upon arrival. We stripped down to our bathing suits inside the suite because it was so hot. The batteries in the TV remote were also dead and when the management came to replace the batteries while we were out at dinner, they also took down some of the Elizabeth Taylor pictured frames. Why would they redecorate in the middle of our stay? Completely unprofessional.

Overall would never stay in that suite again. Does not comfortably sleep 5 people as advertised. Also, the very large living room doesn't even have enough seating for 5 people. Not cool.

We stayed in one of the studios for a night. We were appalled at how run down and dingy the room was. On top of the overall dinginess of the room, there were several other issues.

Our front patio was not a patio and was merely an partially enclosed entrance.
And The gate didn't fully shut or close.

There is an old used toilet plunger in the bathroom -purely disgusting and the toilet roll fell off the wall as it was not properly hung.

The bedding is tattered and mismatched

The door to the street looked like it had been kicked in before. The deadbolt was hard to lock because of the damage to the door frame and the handle lock didn't work leaving us feel really unsafe.

Dogs are advertised as allowed until you arrive to learn they are not allowed anywhere on the grounds. Therefore we could not enjoy the pool, the spa, or any of the advertised amenities that we had paid for.

We tried to address these issues on premise but not one employee could be found.

We emailed the hotel our displeasure with the experience and the response email we got was aggressive and hostile, claiming we were lying about our review and threatening some kind of legal action for defamation and charging our credit card if we left a bad review.

A Place in the Sun is a wonderful, tranquil get away in the heart of Palm Springs. The rooms are extremely spacious with living room, kitchen, and Bedroom. Elizabeth Taylor, when she built it in 1951, definitely wanted her guest to enjoy their stay. That ambiance is still the same. Be sure to sit poolside early morning and enjoy the serene surroundings while watching the mountain turn orange at first light and the hummingbirds dancing about you. Highly recommended and a great value.

Had an amazing time staying at A Place In The Sun Hotel! It felt like an oasis. The history of the property is quite impressive, truly an icon of palm springs and its modernism era architecture. Ask the staff to tell you about it because you might just be staying in the same room Marylyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, or Walt Disney enjoyed! So cool! Super friendly staff were always available via text whenever I needed anything. The contactless Check-in was super convenient because I was sent all check-in info by email and could walk straight to my room when I arrived! Feels safe. The property was well maintained, and my room very clean with high-speed internet. Superb location, right next to downtown and just a short walk from hiking trails in Tahquitz Canyon. Lounging in the pool looking up at the mountains was definitely my highlight. Can’t wait to be back soon and end my days stargazing in the hot Jacuzzi Spa.

Three days off...let's head for Palm Springs! And when we always stay at A Place in the Sun. A unique and beautiful place near the heart of Palm Springs. Beautiful grounds and "rooms". I say "rooms ". Our unit 18 had a comfortable bedroom, full large living room with glorious fireplace, full kitchen with everything you could want generously equipped. A sunny dining room. A full roomy patio. Just wonderful. And VERY reasonably priced. All units around a gorgeous Palm Springs yard and pool. The owners really care about their guests. Had a wonderful 3 days.

The most bizarre check in experience I've ever had anywhere in the world. I arrived to an empty parking lot and followed the instructions on the sign out front to text check in. The gate was open so I went in and used the map to go to the office. After walking through a dirty smelly laundry area I found two employees who, not making this up, walked me outside and slammed the gate closed. I then received a text picture of the sign saying no one van go on the grounds who is not checked in.

I like staying at small properties because I usually chat with the owners and hey tips on what to do. In this case, I never saw the owner before I was bounced back to the outside lot and left hiding my bag.

Maybe this owner needs to look up the word "hospitality" in the dictionary.

Avoid this depressing, smelly rude motel no matter how good the deal sounds.

Also, special mention to Hotels Tonight who were rude on the phone and charged me for the booking I didn't receive. Booking.com ended up taking good care of me at a nicer, friendlier property.

Pictures of the property did not reflect the room I was in. Shower glass vintage door had a giant major cravk ready to break with dirt & mold underneath. Rusty dirty old built in soap dish that should have been removed. No hood range above the stove good way to get carbon monoxide poisoning. Foil under the stove electric heating elements. List goes on ...

Wow, it certainly looks like things have gotten really bad there. If you like that area, the BelleVue Oasis across the street is a nice alternative. Maybe you can stay there and take a peek to see what's going on with A Place [No Longer?] in the Sun... good luck!
