Yes indeed, less can be as satisfying! I was attending a tennis tournament during the week and meeting up with my son. I was booked for 4 days in an upscale, deluxe hotel, but since I was arriving in Palo Alto in the evening - I decided to book an affordable hotel for one night. I selected the Cardinal Hotel...

Super clean room, right in the middle of the dowtown, one queen bed for two of us. Clean shared (separate) toilet and shower. We were in the third floor but coud hear the noise (if light sleeper, this may not be the perfect lace). We arrived after 6 pm and lucky to get onstreet parking (free until 8 or 10...

As other reviews have emphasised, the Cardinal Hotel offers an ideal location in the heart of downtown Palo Alto. It is very close to the Caltrain station making connection to SFO airport relatively effortless. i was staying in Room 227 which was great during the heatwave that was taking place during my stay, nestled in the shade of the hotel...

Pros: Lovely historic hotel, nice rooms with comfy beds, the shared-bathroom rooms are the cheapest option in the area, and a fantastic location - if you want to be in downtown Palo Alto. Cleaning staff was very friendly and helpful. I would give it a 5 out of 5 based on the hotel itself, but... Cons: we dealt with four...

The hotel is in an excellent location near shopping and restaurants. The entrance is dated and narrow, which would give it a "flophouse" feeling if it weren't in such a welcoming neighborhood. The hotel seems to be recently renovated, with the money spent on upgrades to the rooms, which are clean and comfortable, with plenty of USB power available to...

Overall, I would say this is an excellent place to stay -the only issues are generally caused by your fellow guests. The Cardinal is right in downtown Palo Alto (1 block off University), surrounded by great restaurants and within an easy walk of the CalTrain station. The rooms are comfortable and there is very little noise from the street. Free...

My stay here was excellent- when booking I alerted them to a late arrival time and when I walked in the door the staff greeted me by name and got me settled immediately. They were also very helpful in advising me on how best to get to San Francisco, and what to see on my one day of sightseeing. My...

We love the Cardinal Hotel! This time we stayed there for over two weeks, for business and social purposes, and it was the perfect restful refuge. I love the old feel of the place, the noble high-ceilinged, tiled foyer with working fireplace, and the wonderful elevator. It's also an extremely comfortable hotel. Our room had lots of space, and a...

The Cardinal Hotel is my go-to place when visiting our college kids at Stanford. Rooms are perfectly comfortable, in-room bathrooms recently & nicely renovated with Tarocco amenities. Large lobby with fireplace, coffee/tea station, & round-the-clock security. Location can't be beat: short walk to transport shuttles & to local restaurants avoids need for a rental car. Best breakfast place--Coupa cafe--literally steps...

I know it is an old historic building and it does have it's charm. It is also a very convenient location within walking distance to many shops and restaurants. However, there were several things that I didn't like. First, I found the staff very unfriendly. That is the least bad thing to say. It is also very noisy. The windows...
