We had to stay here in a pinch due to an extended power outage in our neighborhood. As expected, the Residence Inn is a solid hotel that consistently delivers a good experience and product.

Positives:
* Staff were very friendly & helpful
* King suite was spacious for our family of 4 and pet between a king sized bed and a full sized pull out sofa sleeper
* Room has a decent kitchen with the basic supplies need to cook meals
* Location is an easy walk to Old Town Pasadena where there are lots of restaurants, shopping, and frozen yogurt or ice cream for the kids
* Pets are allowed, but there is a $150 charge per stay

Not So Great:
* Room carpet was dirty and probably hasn’t been washed in a long time
* Too many patrons smoking marijuana even though it’s non-smoking. We smelled it in the hallway of our floor and the garage was full of marijuana smoke and exhaust
* Self-parking fee was $22 per night

For a week of business we booked this hotel and after our bad experience with another Marriott the week before in Tucson I was a little but reluctant. Turns out unjustified. The hotel is in a convenient location, close to old town, not too noisy and offers breakfast and parking. The breakfast is okay, nothing special but includes the "standards". The rooms are spacious enough, and have all the amenities one would need. The entire property seems not very old and is very clean. Beds are comfortable and bath room is roomy.
This is a solid hotel and what you expect for the price.

This is a wonderful hotel. My only advice is to make sure you book a room on the inner courtyard pool side. The hotel is located on a very busy street. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday night the noise from cars with blaring music can be difficult to sleep through. At some point it would be great if they replaced the windows on that side with soundproof types but that is expensive. Our room was very comfortable, the kitchen had a full size range. The staff is incredibly helpful and friendly. Their housekeeping staff is the best i have ever experienced. I know some people don't believe in leaving a tip for the housekeeping staff that clean the rooms. Please reconsider that and tip what you can. They work very hard cleaning up each room to a degree that goes beyond any i have experienced.

The hard product at this Residence Inn is quite good -- great location with clean, modern and spacious rooms. We had the two bedroom two bath suite, which though pricey at around $500 a night, was great for our family and even better than connecting room options elsewhere. The beds and pillows were comfortable, and the showers hot with good pressure.
However, there were a number of disappointments with the soft product. We arrived late with a sick and very tired child, to find there were no linens in the room for the sofa bed. Moreover, the only person who could bring them up was on break for the next 20 minutes, and they wouldn't allow me to just come down to the front desk for them. These really should be kept in the room. Second, they have the large containers in the shower for soap, shampoo, etc., and once I was in the shower I discovered there were two shower gel containers, and no shampoo.
The breakfast by far was the biggest disappointment, probably one of the worst I've ever had at a free breakfast property. The big metal warmers where you usually find things like bacon, sausage, or scrambled eggs, were filled with breakfast sandwiches (see photo). Specifically, the type where you buy frozen and heat up in the microwave, and keeping them in those warmers makes the buns a bit damp and unpleasant. I tried one, the soggy bun was bad enough, but it became inedible when I bit into the middle to find it cold from not having been microwaved thoroughly. They also were out of plates, having only small bowls, and apparently could not go down to Costco or the grocery store to restock. They also had limited juice options.
I'm really on the fence on whether I'll go back to this property. The location and the large suite option make it hard to beat, but the failures from poor choices by management and lack of staff training make me want to try my luck elsewhere, particularly given the high cost.

Paid $450 for 2 rooms. They had 63 degrees F upon arrival, thermostats were impossible to reprogram. Manager Ricky assured us to go to dinner, he'd have the rooms at 73 degrees for us. We returned at midnight, rooms were now 60 degrees. Front desk and maintenance man were unable to increase temp in either room. Waited until 2am without even sitting down, leave alone lying down in that hotel, temp remained 60 degrees in either room. The lobby was also freezing cold. Front desk staff put in writing that thermostats were not working and that we should get complete refund for both rooms. We left at 2 am without even having sat down. However, we never received a penny back, manager refused any refund. It's a total dump and rip off!

I've previously stayed at this property twice (pre-Covid) and was very satisfied. This visit, I found the hotel is more like a collection of small Airbnb rooms than a hotel. There is no maid service unless requested each day and even then it is minimal. I found the staff unconcerned when problems occurred and the resolution of problems was beyond their ability to resolve. When I found the that the body wash dispenser was empty (mid-shower) I reported it to the desk clerk the following morning and was told they would remedy it. When I returned to my room that night I found a bottle of shower gel on the counter in the kitchen, the empty shower container untouched. Asking for fresh towels resulted in the same cavalier response - left on the kitchen counter. My bed was untouched my entire stay. It was like the hotel staff simply couldn't be bothered to make the effort. For nearly $400 a night I had hoped for service a bit better than a roadside motel. I will not be returning.

Pros:
Spacious room with kitchen, sofa, desk, and large bathroom;
Easy to walk to lots of restaurants in Old Town Pasadena;
Reasonable walk to Metro Memorial Park Station light rail;
I was able to have food delivered directly to my room by an outside restaurant;
Free Breakfast

Cons:
The free breakfast was mediocre.
No free bottled water was provided - I was told there would be bottled water in my room, but that wasn't the case.
Customer service varied in quality. I realized the day after check out that I left my computer charger in my room. When I called to try to get it back I spoke to a few different staff and only one appeared to have made any effort to see if it was actually in the room. Twice I was hung up on by the front desk staff. I don't know if that was an accident, but they didn't bother to call back. It was my mistake to leave it there, but I was disappointed that they didn't help.

Notes:
Interior room on the 3rd floor was pretty quiet, but the pool, ping pong table, life-size chess, etc. were just outside on the 2nd floor, so I may have been lucky.

I saw a room at the Courtyard across the street and it was much smaller.

I stayed here for 25 total nights over multiple stays. Of those 25 nights the room heating/air conditioning did not work on 12 nights (in different rooms). When I called the desk I was told that they "knew about the problem and were waiting for parts". For 12 days in different rooms? The final straw was when I checked in at 4pm on my final stay. I was told that my room wasn't ready because they were finishing up cleaning it. And that is would be 5 or 10 minutes. Well, the 5 or 10 minutes claim went on for TWO HOURS of sitting in the lobby. When the room was finally ready it wasn't clean. The shower didn't drain and I stood in 2" of water every time. The rug was dirty and had hair and food crumbs on it. The shelves in the fridge weren't clean. So, what were they doing for two hours? It can't possibly take that long to clean a room. Finally, the employee smoke right near the entrance door and the whole area stinks.

Our family had a leak in our home and were displaced for about a month. After staying in 4 other hotels prior to the Residence Inn, we decided to choose the Residence Inn Los Angeles Pasadena / Old Town for the remainder of our displacement.

Overall our stay was great! The staff, especially the morning front desk team, was very friendly to us, and our family was able to become very familiar with them. Our daughter even made some of them friendship bracelets! The rooms were spacious, and for the most part, quiet, and we took advantage of some of the amenities like the gym and free complimentary breakfast.

The only thing I would suggest improving upon would be the communication between the sales team and front desk, and front desk and housekeeping. There seemed to be some communication breakdowns between the departments. I'd also suggest that the sales team be more responsive to the guests when asked questions. I sent two emails and never received a response, and instead, had to also follow up with phone calls. That isn't the best business practice in a hospitality setting.

Other than those small issues, the hotel was clean, modern, and quiet. It was a great place for an extended stay with children. The location is perfect as its a VERY short walk to restaurants, bars, and shopping in Old Town Pasadena. Also, it's only a short drive to the Rose Bowl. God forbid we are in that position again, but if we are, we will certainly stay at the Residence Inn Los Angeles Pasadena / Old Town!

Special shout out to: Kayre (FD), Brianna (FD), Sebastian (Hskp), Danny (FD), Carmen (Hskp), Evelyn (FD), Katrina (FD), and Janet (FD)

Do you enjoy overheating in a room with windows that barely open and no working air conditioning? Do you enjoy paying $35 a night for parking? Do you enjoy the sounds of the freeway and people yelling outside? And lastly do you enjoy having to wait to check-in till 4pm in the afternoon?

Then I have the hotel for you!

Welcome to the Residence Inn Pasadena where the hotel staff are friendly but the services are abysmal at best. Where you can get emails (that look like scams) letting you know on the day of your stay that the AC is broken in your room! When you choose to arrive at the hotel you are greeted warmly by reception staff that let you know that your AC is truly broken and that they are doing their very best to fix it *insert sad emoji here*. In return for already being inconvenienced and blindsided you get ✨free parking✨ and ✨10% off✨ because we care about your comfort and stay. Now proceed upstairs to your rooms where they give you a sad little box fan and the world’s smallest (and cheapest) portable AC unit. Now sit back and relax while you roast inside your fish bowl.

What’s this? You wish to change rooms?

Of course right this way let’s get you to your new (smaller and cheaper) room you didn’t pay for and enjoy AC again! Yayyyyy!

Oh no the AC broke in this new room a whole 5 HOURS later!?!?!

Well let’s get you to another room, and so on and so on

You can enjoy being hopscotched from room to room, with little to no forgiveness from the hotel, and lackluster care from a company and corporation that really could not care less about your stay.

If you want to actually enjoy your time in Pasadena I would stay far far FAR away from this hotel. You would have a much better time sleeping in a Motel 6 than here.

Heed the recent reviews and never stay here. Higher prices don’t always mean better accommodations

We were in a King room facing Fair Oaks Blvd. and the room was quiet. Most of the time we don't pick a room for the view since we spend little time in the room and it's usually dark by the time we get to the room. Hope that helps.
