I am extremely dissatisfied with this motel.
They did not honor my reservation and turned away my best friend's daughter
and her husband even though I called Orbitz and they called the motel and the manager agreed to add them to the reservation.
In the end, my Christmas present to these young kids -- a room within walking
distance to the Rose Bowl where our football team Michigan State University was playing Stanford (and won!) in the 100th Rose Bowl -- was not delivered. They ended up without a room in a very large metropolitan area, having to find other accommodations AFTER the game was over, and pay separately for parking to boot.
This is not acceptable, especially considering it was prepaid by me nearly
a month earlier, and I took the extra care to make sure that the hotel had their names
added to the record, so they could check in.
Now, after the fact, the motel claims they did check in and use the room. This is NOT TRUE. The motel management is trying to cover their behinds because they know they are in the wrong! And, they are trying to use the ID they required as their proof that the room was used.
SPREAD THE WORD! DO NOT BOOK WITH THIS PROPERTY EVER!
They will rip you off the first chance they get.
Our room was painted 3 shade of blue, had mismatched furniture (including a green plastic lawn chair), and was complete with a MIRRORED headboard. As poor college students, we weren't expecting the stay at the Ritz for $63/night, but this room's condition was completely unacceptable! Let's start with the cleanliness, or lack there of... The bed didn't have a fitted sheet on top of the mattress, the carpets were filthy, the toilet had dried urine on the seat and didn't flush, there were no towels in the bathroom, and the room smelled very strange. It seemed to me that this room wasn't meant for long stays, or even a night's stay.
Considering we are young women who were traveling alone, we felt extremely uncomfortable and even vulnerable in the room and at the motel in general. We decided that we couldn't stay the night after about 45 minutes and rang for the manager to tell him we were checking out. We asked for a refund since we didn't stay, but as the sign so nicely pointed out, we didn't get one. Luckily, we found a Best Western that had one last room available at 2 in the morning.
Needless to say, this was the worst travel experience of my life. We booked the room online because the pictures didn't look so bad. Be warned! Don't make the same mistake.
Checking in was tedious because you have to be buzzed into the office/front-desk area by the person at the front-desk. When I arrived a couple was in the office checking in and I was made to stand outside (in the unusually cold November SoCal was having at the time) the entire time they checked in, despite the fact that the person working the front desk saw me outside when I arrived. It just appeared that I simply wasn't allowed in until he finished checking in the other people. So I had to wait through their entire check in and then wait as he trained his young daughter how to use the computer while checking me in.
Once in my room, things only got worse. The entire room was smaller than the second bedroom of my tiny apartment and the floor felt disgusting to the point that I avoided walking on it in bare feet or even just my socks. The bathroom was filthy and everything looked like it was decades old. There wasn't an outlet of any kind in the bathroom for plugging in a hairdryer, and the outlet closest to the one mirror in the entire room (next to the bed) didn't work. So I had to plug my hairdryer into the opposite wall and lean sideways as far as the cord would stretch to try to catch glimpses of myself in the mirror as I went. And the wi-fi password that I was given didn't work at all but the manager/front-desk person had been so uninterested in customer service when I checked in I didn't even bother calling up to see if it could be fixed.
The room and the area smelled strongly of cigarette smoke, almost chokingly so, which didn't help the feeling of the room/motel. Everything just felt and looked dirty, seedy, and scary. I made sure to pull absolutely everything out of my car when I went into my room, and kept all of my belongings packed in my bag the entire time. Though, there isn't any cleaning/bed-making/anything done to the rooms during the stay, so at least there wasn't any in or out of employees or leaving of a room door open while they cleaned.
I needed to check out very early in the morning to get on the road home and the entire front desk area was locked down and dark when I approached it. It took awhile for someone to come to the window when I rang the bell, and when he did, he was in pajamas. Based on the kitchen/living area I saw through the door in the office when checking in, I'm pretty sure that the owner/manager lives onsite in the office with his family.
Also of note - the motel's site states fridges and microwaves and amenities so I brought food for my stay, but apparently only a few rooms have those, and mine wasn't one, so all of my food went to waste.
At check in (around midnight), the sign in the window said 'no drugs or prostitution'... Great, first clue. To get to the stairs up to the rooms, you have to walk thru a parking lot which was inhabited by multiple gatherings of some vulgar people... After being approached for money and someone asking if I wanted to "party", I retreated to the safety of my car and waited for these people to leave (which was nearly an hour) before going to my room. (Second clue.)
Once I got to the room, the windows were wide open, the door lock was broken, the floor was stained and filthy, the trash cans had trash in them, the toilet had been used and not flushed and the two hanging bath towels had curly, black hair all over them. Just gross on so many levels. (Third clue)
I just wanted to leave, but I had used my per diem on booking this, so called "reputable" hotel chain (not even close) and had no way of refund to find another hotel thanks to the travel booking site I had used. (To be clear, I didn't use tripadvisor for this... Wish I had!)
The mirrored 1970's headboard, the beat up dresser, the crazy hard mattress and the lawn chair provided in the room did not add anything positive to the experience.
I would caution any solo travelers, like myself, or families with children to stay somewhere else.
I do have to say, the gentleman who checked me in was very nice, the room had a new tv and the bathroom had new tile... But overall this was a frightening and gross experience.
Missing:No washcloths, hand towels, bath mats or shampoo. No outlet in
bathroom & no hairdryer.
No closet,no place to hang clothed,no drawers,no lamps. (Just 1 over head fluorescent bulb). No coffee maker& ice costs 50cents a bucket.
Would stay again for Rose Bowl functions as it's a nice walk (little over a mile),and staff makes sure you know the way. Would definately stay again and just bring things they don't have that we need.
