Nestled in a tranquil, residential area, The Langham Huntington, Pasadena, Los Angeles is celebrated for its serene location and picturesque grounds. While the sophisticated and historic charm of the hotel captivates guests, opinions on value are mixed, with some finding the amenities overpriced and the rooms in need of modernization. The hotel's cleanliness and professional service frequently receive high marks, though experiences can vary with occasional lapses in service efficiency and room upkeep. Despite some disappointment in room and pool amenities, the lush gardens and family-friendly activities are often appreciated.

We recently stayed here for the first time. The property is located in the middle of a quiet residential area in Pasadena and the grounds are amazing. Equally amazing was the attentive staff from Valet Parking to Bellman to Check in to Maid Service, The Langham strives for perfection and they certainly achieved it on our stay. We couldnt have asked for a better experience and that means that we will return!

This place is incredible! The team members were so nice and captured every detail. When we arrived we had an incredible welcome amenity customized with the kids names. I asked the host to help with a prank on my daughter with an elf on a shelf doll and they took it in the back and made a chefs hat and brought it out with our food. My daughter cannot stop talking about it and laughing. We felt so well taken care of and they have thought of every detail to keep guests safe from the self cleaning buttons in the elevators to the spotless rooms and grounds. The Langham Huntington is the best luxury resort in the LA area hands down.

I visited this hotel some 20 years ago before they rename to Langham. I am please to say the tradition remains so is the service. When lots 5 star hotel start cutting cost make the turn down service as option or by request only , I am glad they still kept it and housekeeping team went beyond to make us comfortable . There is other hotel with more modern amenities or shaper rooms , however I think what makes them difffent is the level service provided by the team, from their valet , front desk , concierge to housekeeping , the Consistency of excellent service is what I am impressed. Being a frequent traveler around the world, I know how hard this is to achieve for every hotel. Little complain on the side note .. our Chinese breakfast definitely can give some improvement.. missing chop stick, dim sum bit soggy and noodle was too salty to swallow .. over all a great place to stay and little get away for my stressed life in LA.

So disappointing on two very different fronts. Primarily this property is in no way prepared to provide a safe experience during these times. Having just received both shots we decided to book a place we had enjoyed a decade ago.

Checking in we were looking forward to a quiet eventing and a nice meal from room service. Safe right!. Well for reasons that can only be driven by economics and not guest safety there is no room service at the hotel at this time. Did not here a rational explanation. So they have one small outside eating spot. We were told that the hotel was at less than 20% occupancy so when we went down for breakfast and told there was a 45 min wait - How can that be.

Then that afternoon we decided to make a reservation for dinner. There were no tables.

It seems the hotel would rather jam in the few people the space would hold rather than let you eat in your room.

On the room itself, we booked a suite. Boy, was it outdated. Yes it had two rooms, but only one thermostat. So you had to keep the door open and hope both rooms got warm. The bathrooms were way out of date. The shower was in a tub - very low on the wall and minimal water pressure.

Folks this use to be a great property, it needs an update and management that cares about guests at this tough time. Find an alternative.

Dear Surnapa, Thank you for sharing this feedback with us. I am so disappointed to hear that your visit did not meet expectation, nor the great memories you had from prior visits, and we apologize that you encountered such issues. Excellent service and guest safety remain our highest priorities at this time and we will certainly do all we can to address your items of concern. Our team is working hard to offer as many amenities and services as city health restrictions allow while still ensuring the highest levels of guest health safety possible, however we remain limited to outdoor dining and take-away options from our Terrace and Hideaway restaurants at this time. Please know that I have relayed the issue regarding table reservations and quoted wait times to our team to better understand what may have occurred and ensure we correct this immediately. We understand this is a challenging time and want our guests to enjoy their experience to the fullest. We hope to have an opportunity to welcome you back in the future for an improved stay. Best Regards, Paul Leclerc Managing Director

Although the hotel is situate in a neighbourhood, you are within walking distance of Old Pasadena. We stayed here as part of a conference. The hotel does offer a shuttle, which is convenient if the hotel is not busy. The first flaw with the hotel is the valet parking. All parking must be done by valet. Each day it was chaos for drop off and pick up. This is something that the hotel should address and perhaps offer a choice of valet or self parking. The gym is new with great equipment but quite small, the hotel does sell memberships to the general public to use so the morning are very busy with non-hotel users. I think as a "resort" fee is being charged to guests for this amenity guests of the hotel should have priority access to the gym in peak hours. This would elevate some of the congestion between 7-10 am. The common areas of the hotel do offer a charming inviting atmosphere this quickly disappears once you enter your room. The room was very large but had a foul odor to it the entire stay, it smelled like musty and mildew combined into one nasty odor. We were in a cottage with a main entrance and a hotel room on one side and suite on the other side. When guests entered the main entrance there was no filter of noise, you could hear doors slamming and their conversations. The pool was very nice and the staff were all super friendly. However I would not stay at this hotel again as its location is too far from LA and it needs a facelift.

Dear F3607EZkareng, Thank you for sharing your feedback with us, and I am pleased to note that you enjoyed many aspects of your stay. I do apologize, however, for the issue with your cottage room (which I have asked our Housekeeping team to address immediately), and that the high volume of guests in the fitness center impacted your visit there. The fitness center is open only to a nominal number of Chuan Spa members and then also guests of the hotel, and not to the general public or neighbors, however during high-volume times at the hotel, it can become quite busy in the mornings due to the occupancy of the property. Still, we want to ensure ease of access and usage for all our guests and members, and will be reviewing this feedback to consider ways in which we might ameliorate the situation moving forward. We look forward to an opportunity to welcome you back in the future for a truly flawless stay! Best Regards, Paul Leclerc Managing Director

The room rate is not what you are going to end up paying. A $225.00 room if you can get one will be $300.00 with taxes, mysterious fees and $35.00 parking. I personally would rather just pay the $300.00 and avoid being pissed off by the fees. One was a penny, seriously??? Staff was friendly and helpful, but I had the feeling they were running short staffed. To avoid disappointment, check and see what is open due to Covid. At the time I was there all bars and restaurants were closed except the "Terrace" you could also get drinks/food by the pool. My friend and I split a dry mediocre sandwich and each had two drinks, bill with tax and tip: $113.00. The pool area was very pleasant, this is not the kind of place to let your kids make noise or run wild. Room was clean and nice with a view. House keeping is scaled back due to Covid....so they say. Before dinner, my friend and I drank some wine in the room, which was a good thing because a glass of so-so Rose' is $18.00 and a short pour. The food however was excellent and a good value when you consider the quality. I had the chicken and my friend had the scallops. Outdoor setting was very nice, with this being the only dinner venue open, you better make reservations well in advance. A nice place to go to treat yourself.

We live about 15 minutes away from this hotel and decided to check it out for the weekend because we had dinner reservations already scheduled at their restaurant for Saturday night.

High points include The Royce restaurant and the hotel bar. The food and drinks are great and they have great ambiance. The location of the hotel is good if you are traveling from out of town and want to be near Old Town Pasadena and freeway access. Finally, the bed and pillows were comfortable and the shower water pressure was good.

Unfortunately, I don’t have many other good things to say. The rooms are very outdated. The TVs look like those that I owned in 2006 and the showers have a shower curtain equivalent to what I see at a Holiday Inn Express rather than glass doors.

The service wasn’t awful but it wasn’t what you would expect from a 5-star hotel. We didn’t get turn down service the first night because they claimed we didn’t request it. Unfortunately, we expected this to be a standard service that didn’t need a request.

The most disappointing part was the pool. If you are looking for a relaxing weekend getaway, this place is not the spot for you. It was filled with screaming children. The towels were old. The chairs were horribly uncomfortable. The chair cushions were flat and sagged on the chair. It took an hour to get a drink and the pool food was flavorless (I got a Mexican chicken salad and my husband got the poke bowl) and overpriced.

Finally, while I cannot necessarily blame this completely on the hotel, it was full of weddings and other events. As a result, various parts of the hotel were closed off to other guests. Given we were there to enjoy the hotel rather than the surrounding LA areas (remember, we live 10 min away), not having full access to the hotel and especially outdoor seating, was very disappointing.

Overall, we will continue to eat dinner there but there is zero chance we will ever go there for another staycation.

Stayed at the Langham Huntington Pasadena in December 2019 on business. It was not my first time staying here, so I wasn't as blown away by the beautiful entry and parking court as well as the refined facility. It's old, but it's classy, and it still has "old-world" charm.

The worst part however is the gym, which could be nice but is totally oversubscribed in the mornings thanks to the hotel property selling passes for non-hotel guests living nearby. Many of these people are early risers and appear to be retired, but they're working out at this gym. As a result, if you're not on one of the few aerobic machines by 6am, you're going to be out of luck. I learned my lesson last time and got up extra early this time, which was my only saving grace for my regular morning workout! Seriously, the property either needs to cut back on community passes, expand the gym, or change the admission hours for non-guests. It's insane.

Valet parking is expensive and definitely needs a good lead time.

The good: The grounds of the hotel are pretty to walk through and the scene from our room’s balcony (overlooking the pool) with live music playing in the evening was lovely. Everything else was subpar. For the price and the way the Langham advertises itself, I would expect a luxury experience yet ours was anything but: cobwebs inside the room, moldy grout on the tub, grubby looking carpet, a door that broke partway through our stay, bare bones toiletries, etc - the fact that the hotel is charging upwards of $600 a night for this experience is a joke. We also paid additionally in advance for a kids’ package and what greeted us on arrival was nothing as described. We had to call repeatedly to get what we’d already paid for and each time they left something out. Almost everyone we dealt with was friendly, which was appreciated, but overall they seemed uninformed. The food is fine, overpriced even by hotel standards, but the kids enjoyed the kids’ menu. I also want to note that very few employees were wearing masks indoors or out and a couple times unmasked staff got too close to our small children without asking. Obviously, individual comfort levels may vary, but for us it was uncomfortable and unwanted. Finally, checkout is a mess. It took 40 minutes just to leave the hotel because of waiting in line in the lobby and waiting for the valet. Again, for the price and the advertised “luxury” factor the Langham Pasadena is a miss and I would not recommend it.

We stayed in Lanai king room, but the room is very outdated worse than 3 star hotels. The carpet is old with many big stains and the bathroom shower is over a very small tub and shower curtain that’s halfway broken. Bathroom sink also has huge yellow stains that couldn’t be cleaned out. The outlets on the side of night stand was also broken literally falling apart. The balcony doesn’t have any lights. Our room is facing the pool and it’s constantly loud and noisy. Except the garden landscape look nice, inside lanai rooms are not nice at all. I also want to complain about the covid mask policy. Very very few employees wore masks and 99% people do not wear masks. It bothered us that housekeeping do not wear masks and entered our room daily as well as valet parking guys do not wear masks driving our car in and out. I really do not like their parking policy that is only valet only $42 a night. This leaves people no option of safely park the car ourselves. The worst of all the day when we left one of the valet guys almost directly drove into me with my car!! He moved my car that was already parked there to get more space in the back so we can open the trunk but he didn’t tell me that and how in the world I would have expected a parked car to be moving towards me. If I didn’t jump out of the way quickly I would have been severely injured. I have heart problems and I got very much startled and upset with the service we received. We selected this supposedly 5 star hotel for relaxation and quality services, but the overall experience is horrible. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.

The better rooms in the main building are a little larger but essentially not much different. I'd suggest trying one of the "cottage" rooms in one of the outlying buildings which range from very elegant to truly luxurious!

I can't speak to that...the service, amenities and ambience are so terrific at this hotel that I can't imagine the club level would add that much to your stay....but I'm not sure what it includes. I've stayed in a variety of one-bedroom suites and rooms and never wanted for a thing.
