Welcome to The Villa Agave, a distinctly unique bed and breakfast estate in the heart of the undiscovered Gold Hill Winery district. The Villa Agave offers an exclusive experience to adventurers, wine connoisseurs, and history buffs, alike. On our Spanish hacienda's 15 acre estate, hike on our private trail system built just for you, enjoy a picnic at one of our vignettes with sweeping views, sip Viognier from a local winery in the courtyard while watching hummingbirds splash in the Spanish fountain, or venture minutes from the estate for white water rafting, wine tasting, beer tasting, hiking, and exploration of the rich history of the gold country. The Villa Agave is named for the Agave plant we grow on the property and exudes the classic Spanish style of the villa itself. We look forward to our first harvest of blue weber agave, as it is the basis for the wondrous spirit: Tequila.

Detailed Reviews
How can I put into words the magic of Villa Agave? Remote, unique, charming, detailed, stunning, and bright—it was absolute perfection.
The owner Bonnie, was responsive and knowledgeable, and went out of her way to make sure we had a great time. Prior to our arrival we inquired about things to do in the area, as we were spending the weekend celebrating a bachelorette party with 9 ladies. She personally recommended wineries and river spots less than 5 miles from the Villa that were perfect for our group and rounded out the weekend to be a great amount of enjoying local attractions and spending time at the Villa.
Upon arrival we had our temperature checked, and you could tell the house had been cleaned and sanitized, which made us all feel a little more comfortable. The details that were put in our stay truly made us feel like we were at an exotic resort. We enjoyed a fantastic tequila tasting, getting to taste different types of tequilas and learning about the regions which they come, it was like nothing we’d ever experienced and a highlight of one of the gracious amenities. The villa itself is stunning. Large and spacious enough that it didn’t feel like we were on top of each other, but quaint enough where we felt like we could make it our “home” for the weekend. The beds were super comfortable and the rooms were all uniquely decorated, even named after different types of tequilas! Every room had a view of the beautiful property, and the sound of the fountain in the courtyard was enough to lull you to sleep at night. Everyone in our group had enough space to sleep comfortably, utilizing the pull out trundle in the master as well as in the tequila bar. The location was perfect, it felt remote because the property is so large and secluded, but we were only a 10 minute drive from wineries, restaurants and the American River. I highly recommend the Villa Agave for anyone looking for a quick get away or an extended stay, as it is easy to make this place feel like your eccentric home away from home!

I have been to the Villa Agave on three occasions for our annual girl friends weekend, and I highly recommend it as great retreat spot. I always leave feeling like it’s never enough time. Bonnie is the most engaging host who has a vast amount of knowledge about tequila! You don’t want to miss the tasting, even if you know nothing about the wonderful agave.
She is also a heartfelt earth steward, who cares deeply about the natural environment. The wild animals who visit and live on her property are welcomed and nourished by her always flowing fountain. She even built a special step for small critters, in case they fall in. Not to mention the bird condo she created for nesting birds looking for a protected area away from predators. This is a kindness not often seen and it say’s a lot about who Bonnie is.
The Villa itself is immaculate and beautiful with views of the surrounding hills and trees that breath a sense of calm and serenity. The beds are so comfy, I always leave feeling nourished and refreshed.
One last thing, on the morning of our arrival, I had inquired about getting a massage. It was a last minute request and I didn’t think it would happen, but Bonnie put in a call and two of us were able to get a massage, right there on the property in the Spa room. We didn’t have to go anywhere and it was a great way to start our visit!
All in all, I highly recommend Villa Agave!

We stayed here as part of a road trip to explore California. It was a brilliant find.
The property is well maintained and very clean. There are three bedrooms/suites with a shared sitting dining area and sun terrace with great views. A lot of thought has gone into the design and furnishing of the property and it really works well.
The owner (Bonnie) really goes out of her way to make guests feel welcome and comfortable. The breakfast was excellent - fresh fruit, homemade quiche and pastry with champagne and/or Orange Juice.
A Tequila tasting session is included - Bonnie really knows her stuff and is growing Agave to start producing her own in a few years time.
Apparently not many Brits visit this area which is a surprise as it’s both unspoilt and interesting.
A brilliant bed and breakfast run by an exceptionally caring owner. There was nothing not to like about our stay and we hope to visit again.

What an absolute delight is this country oasis! Incredibly special and serene, the villa itself is a work of architectural beauty, and the surrounding area is lovingly maintained. The interior is like entering a very cool museum…every piece of furniture, every design touch, from the Saltillo tiles to the original, clever artwork to the flowers is lovingly created and presented. The owner has not missed a beat, and her attention to detail to ensure comfort for her guests is a blessing. My suite was so comfortable, and the view was so lovely, and the bed was like sleeping on a cloud. The breakfasts are organic, delicious, and served either in the pretty dining room or outside on the equally pretty porch overlooking the garden. I’m delighted to know about Villa Agave. I’ll be returning often.

We spent two nights at the Villa Agave and it was wonderful. The property is very private with lovely views and the Villa and rooms are beautifully appointed and very comforatble. Bonnie, the host, is lovely. She met us upon arrival and made us feel right at home. She was available to answer all of our questions about the surrounding area and provided us great tips for nearby hiking, restaurants, and wine tasting. The tequilla tasting Bonnie provides was truly a unique and fun experience. We learned a lot about tequilla and tasted a variety. The breakfasts that Bonnie served were delicious, healthy, and filling. Save room for the coffee cake - it is so amazing! We look forward to visiting again.

Set on 15 acres of woodland, the Villa Agave is a unique, beautiful, welcoming retreat. The house itself is a Santa Fe inspired wonder with soaring ceilings, fabulous rugs, wonderful and interesting art work, terracotta floors and log beams. The Suites are exquisitely decorated with a southwestern flair and a few touches of eclectic elegance. Staying here was a joy! I love the feel of the place - the natural earthy materials & tones really put me at ease. Bonnie made us feel welcome from the moment we parked our cars, and made amazing breakfasts for us each morning (the coffee cake was AMAZING). It's the perfect place for a getaway.

If you are looking for a beautiful property surrounded by exquisite views with an extraordinary host, then you’ve found it! With so many nearby activities, from wine tasting to river rafting, and a sense of nature out every window, Villa Agave does not disappoint.
We had so much fun enjoying the surrounding areas, walking the property, sipping wine and tequila on the deck overlooking the valley, and enjoying wonderful cuisine at nearby restaurants.
The breakfast was divine and the host went out of her way to ensure we had a unique and memorable time.
As a world traveler with high expectations, I unequivocally recommend Villa Agave. This is the third time our group of friends have stayed at the Villa and we will keep coming back again and again.

Where to start? The hospitality, the VIEWS, the villa itself, that king bed (that I am still dreaming about)... If you are thinking of booking, do not hesitate!!! Although I didn't have the pleasure of meeting Bonnie in person (she was away the weekend I booked), I felt so taken care of the entire time. The Villa Agave is such a special place -- I will certainly be back. The town of Placerville is very quaint, as is Apple Hill - we joked that we felt like we were in a Hallmark movie! I will certainly be back :)

Villa Agave was such a pleasant mini vacation. Our suite was beautiful and so comfortable. The owner, Bonnie gave a very informative and tasty tequila tasting in the Agave Bar! We found some great historic places to sight see and the wineries on Apple Hill were so fun. Back at the villa we enjoyed watching wildlife from the decks and had yummy breakfasts. I recommend this unique place in the heart of gold and wine country!
