Im guessing its seasonal rates. The beach is all along the coast of California from San Diego to San Francisco are extremely popular spots and the hotels near the beaches are going to triple in price if the market will bear it. I stayed around Christmas time and it was only $80 a night I believe. It also seem to be the cheapest hotel in the area and I think there was a new owner so he probably raised his prices to match other comparable places in the area.
