Like many folks raised in the Inland Empire, the Mission Inn looms large as the definition of class, service and prestige. As a historic vessel of priceless art and artifacts, the Mission Inn itself deserves only the best. That’s not what’s happening at the moment. In a rush to quickly reopen while reducing costs during a pandemic, the new owners have cut significant corners with their reopening. As a result, what you’ll find is overworked and undertrained brand new staff just trying to keep their heads above water. Poor folks, they are REALLY trying to do their best, and going above and beyond to be accommodating given all the complaining guests I’ve seen. Its is a disaster...and it’s very obviously not the staff’s fault. So far, this is what I’ve seen in the last 24 hours. -Dirty pool area with no towels/unwashed towels and food littering the area (let’s remember it’s a pandemic) -Staff wearing their masks incorrectly under their noses. -Staff not knowing how to open a bottle of wine. -Overcharging of food/drink bills. -Mixing up food order and zero social distancing in the bar area. -Spotty water or food service at the pool. That said...the food is still excellent, well done! Again, I repeat. It’s obvious none of this is the service staff’s fault. They are obviously exhausted and without real leadership and training. Owners/board members, now is not the time to cheap out and not help your staff. Step up your game!

Honestly the service was impeccable until!!A 3 day stay for my daughter’s 30th birthday with a full spa package, I showed up in an outfit from 16 hours of driving, I had to change the reservation for the 2nd, 2 nights stay for my daughter, on the way back to the hotel I was informed I no longer had a reservation, which we had a confirmation for, my friend said “because you wouldn’t change your attire”, I was really tired from the long car ride. I feel management was completely prejudice of my skin color, and how I was dressed, Wow

Where to begin, we check into the hotel and it looks beautiful upon entry they tell us it should be a maximum of 30 minutes to check in. Our reservation was for 1 PM. This is our honeymoon weekend and was a gift from my husband's mother who went to great lengths to make sure that we had a fourth floor room with a view of the courtyard with a small balcony, something private and romantic. Not only did she make the reservation online, But she also visited the hotel the week prior to our reservation to make sure that everything was seamless. Sadly despite all of the efforts made to make this trip a success it was one of my worst hotel experiences to date. I should mention I'm also pregnant so being comfortable and getting rest is really important. 30 minutes past and we were tired of waiting in the lobby so we requested a key to go at least sit in the pool area. Unfortunately for us it was a bit of a cool day but we tried to make the best of it ordering drinks and sitting by the pool. An hour and a half goes by it's now two hours still there's no communication and no accommodations being made. My husband and I agree that at the 2 1/2 hour mark he would check in. He goes back and they tell him the hotel will be ready in 10 minutes it's still not ready. At this point he goes back and he comes back and tells me that he has a whole slew of things to share with me. He tells me that our fourth floor courtyard room is no longer the room will be staying in. Apparently whoever took the reservation from his mother incorrectly entered the credit card number and reserved a room that was unavailable. Some thing he learned on his very last trip to the front desk. He tells me that they've offered us a different room, an upgrade. We get to that upgraded room and it faces the streets which were so loud that the cars driving by and their amplified stereos made the whole room shake. We could hear voices all around our room as they had placed us next to two different hallways mind you this is our honeymoon weekend. It was a nightmare honeymoon or not there was no way would be able to get any rest. And with Covid we had absolutely zero plans to leave our room but this was awful. He calls downstairs and asked to speak to the manager when we were told would call us back he does so twice. Finally after waiting we go back downstairs and he checks out from this nightmare. We are both hard-working professionals with very busy jobs taking this time off was a sacrifice and a luxury one we don't often get. If zero stars were possible you'd see that in my review. What a shame. We arrived so bright eyed and left absolutely crushed.

This hotel is wonderful!! I discovered it recently and stayed here for my birthday last month and loved it so much that I came back to celebrate my sister's birthday this past weekend. The hotel itself is gorgeous and makes you feel like you're in Europe without even having to leave the country. The architecture is beautiful and there is so much to explore in the hotel. I also love how the hotel has such a rich history and significance in Riverside. What makes the hotel extra great is the exceptional customer service. The hotel staff is kind, friendly, and courteous. The manager, Marta, is amazing as well. She went above and beyond to make sure I had a great time on both my trips. They are extremely accommodating and make you feel right at home. There are very few hotels I've stayed at where I've truly experienced such great customer service as I have here. I will definitely be returning in the near future!!

Always wanted to stay in the hotel. I was looking for things to do on my birthday and last minute I decided to stay here for two nights for a birthday staycation getaway. I also needed a break from work and this place was just perfect. Although lights were minimal compared to what it usually is, pre covid, it was still beautiful. There was still beautiful lights in front of hotel, in hotel, and all around the lobby. The big tree and gingerbread house were in lobby and I enjoyed taking pics. I got the deluxe queen room and it’s perfect for one person. The spa was closed but I’ll be sure to visit it next time I go to the hotel after covid! I enjoyed yummy room service and the pool. Nothing around was really open. A hot chocolate and churro stand was open when I walked around the hotel, so I enjoyed that. Donut Bar was also open, and I got some donuts for my family. It was an amazing birthday, despite covid times and needing to be isolated away from family!!
