Detailed Reviews
We stayed for a long weekend to meet some friends. Other RV parks were quite a bit more $. This is average but had full amenities, there are 2 sections one on asphalt and one on gravel. We were on the gravel part and were fine with it. There is a great walking/bike path next to it. Its located close to many restaurants and shopping centers as well. We would return if in the area again.

This place is close to a lot to do but there is no shade in the back lot. There seems to be plenty of spots and when I asked about a longer stay I was told that if the computers were working they most likely to handle us. I really don’t know if I would stay here again but again I found nothing wrong with the place. Water, sewer and 50 amp. Some spots seem like a pain to get into.

Trying to compare a camping facility in a metropolitan area and one In a rural setting is difficult. Facilities such as Cal Expo RV Park must try to provide a quiet, safe and roomy experience while being confined by the hustle and bustle of a city,
Because Cal Expo sits on a large portion of land and has good barriers to "the outside world," it does a pretty good job. The land is flat; the spaces are adequately separated; the water, power and sewer are well maintained and convenient and there is onsite 24/7 security. The only sounds I heard during the night was a distant siren and twice the sound of a vehicle, probably security, slowly driving through the graveled surfaces.
All and all I think they've done a good job!

The rating is a bit higher than it would be in other areas, but Sacramento and vicinity are notoriously lacking in nice, quiet, secure RV parks. So in comparison, this one is great.
In general, the park is well-managed by friendly, competent staff. The paved parking area is a bit sloped, but the gravel parking area in the back lot is quite level. The bathrooms and showers were very, very clean. The noise level was very low except for the rare occasion that some big event at CALEXPO was occurring at night.
The lights just were not that bright -- I don't know what the other reviews are referring to. Also, although it was a large paved parking lot area, there were quite a few trees planted throughout and surrounding the park. To the side and rear of the park there is a bike trail that connects to a very large system of bike trails along the American River.
The location is central and it takes only minutes to get to downtown. The security was good -- surveillance cameras, large fences surrounding the park, and police/security cars patrolling the area.
We enjoyed our stay and have returned to stay again. This is where we stay on our frequent visits to the area.

I stayed her in a 5th Wheel. We were in town for surgery and apps at UC Davis. I spent most of the time alone, so I was interested in safety and location. I was also driving and wanted a location that was easy access from the Freeway.
Everything you could want is close! The office staff are outstanding. They were so helpful and nice! They told me about a company that delivers propane! I can't remember the name but what a great guy. He came out as scheduled and didn't charge much more then if I had gone to get the propane myself.
The park is slanted and you might need to level more then normal. The new area of the park is for larger units. It is not paved but might be more level. Hope this helps. Feel free to ask me questions.

+1
This park is located at the Cal Expo fairgrounds, so is very close to virtually *everything* in downtown Sacramento.
However, it's essentially a great big parking lot!
There are two sections to stay in - one is gravel, one is paved. When I was reading reviews on RV websites, I read a few comments that the paved lot was not level, so we booked a spot in the gravel section. Well, that was technically true . . . the paved area does slope a bit but any modern RV with jacks should not have a problem getting level.
Trees are in short supply, although you can see some from the campsites. The paved section does have a few, but the spaces are shorter and narrower in that section. Our space in the gravel section was about 50 feet long and was plenty wide. There is no grass, and no picnic tables.
All sites have water, sewer and cable. Our site had 50 amps but I don't know if they all do. I got the impression that the paved section was older so it's possible it might have only 30 amps. Next to the office there is a laundry room although we didn't use it, and I think there are showers.
If all this sounds rather grim, it wasn't. It's just sparse.
It's not a resort!
Everything is quite tidy and the office folks (who live onsite in a motorhome) were friendly and helpful. The RV park backs up to the racetrack, and we were able to watch the "jiggy-joggers" (otherwise known as harness horses!) work in the mornings. The far side of the park abuts the river with walking trails and doggie areas.
There are huge streetlights that are on at night, so it doesn't really get dark. It didn't bother us, but might bother some RVers. The whole area is fenced and reasonably quiet considering you're camping in the middle of a large city. We found it easy to get to the park from the freeway.
For us, this park was fine as it's so convenient with plenty of room for big rigs. It would also be handy as a one-night stopover near the freeway. The price was $35. We'd stay here again.
Note - I'm sure that this place is completely packed at fair time. Book far in advance if you plan to stay during State Fair.

Visiting family in the area so this location was ideal with lots of restaurants around. Front part is
paved but not as level as the back area which is gravel but roomy. Hard to keep the tow car clean but easy to get in and out. We paid $35 per night. Make sure if you use the laundry to have it completed by 5 p.m. as they lock the door and you can't get your clothes until 8 a.m.

Traveling full-time in a 42-foot coach we have stayed here many times over the past two years. We live in the age of WIFI technology and there is nothing to stop any RV park from investing in doing WIFI properly and this park receives 5-stars for their great WIFI. This park has two areas, one is built on a small hill and most of those sites are not level, but they are all paved. That means no dust! The other area (in the back) is level, but very dusty because it's gravel. The front area does have some shade trees however the back area has no shade at all. We had AT&T phone service here and it worked great. Your satellite will work for sure if you stay in the back, in the middle. There's plenty of room to walk your dog here with a fenced grassy dog area. This park also receives 5-stars for it's great location...close to restaurants and shopping plus right next to the American River Bike Trail.

Dusty, primarily gravel, parking lot with hookups. Some trees around the perimeter.Lovely folks at check-in. I'm sure the place is hopping when there's something going on at the exposition grounds. However, I was glad we like our MH so much that the outside could be avoided. We did make day trips into Sacramento and enjoyed the convenience, as well as the ease of access to Sacramento International A/P out of which I had to make a trip. Easy access to good markets, the cinema, shops of all sorts, etc.

I had looked for RV sites in the area and they all had terrible reviews including this park, however I must stay after staying here for 4 days this is the best park in the area. As some other reviewers have stated this is not a RV resort, but they have everything you need. I had a great experience during my visit from the first call making the reservation the staff was polite and friendly. They do ask for alot of info about your rig/tow vehicle but after staying there I better understand. I told the staff I would be arriving after closing and she gave me awesome instructions and left my paperwork pinned to the board outside. The park in super quite and has 2 nice dog areas that are well kept. The bathroom/ shower rooms are individual use. You go in lock the door and you have a private place to do your private business. The site has a large concerte area or a large gravel lot. I stayed in the concrete area had 2 large trees on either side of me for shade almost all day long. Which was awesome as it was over 90° everyday I was there. There is a entrance to the riverwalk just outside the park if you wanted to walk/run or bike there. The last night we were there a couple pulled in close to quite hours, yelling and just causing alot of noise and had dogs and kids running crazy, the host Steve and the Cal expo security were there in minutes, after they spoke with the couple everyone got back in thier vehicle and left. The rules are strictly enforced and I had a great stay.

Yes, I believe all of their sites are full hookup.
This is bizarmag again regarding question I just posted. Can someone give me a phone number to call for reservation? I'm sure they are closed today, July 4th, but I'd like to get this taken care of first thing tomorrow morning for tomorrow reservation, 7/5/2016.
Yes, clean and private showers. Deposit required for keys that is returned on departure. Watch office hours though if you depart early.
