Highlight of our trip to California, wish we could have stayed longer than the 3 days. It’s amazing that Simpson is literally 2 blocks away from the main State Street where all the shops, restaurants and theatres are yet Simpson Inn is so peaceful we could have been in the middle of the countryside, no street noise, not a sound could be heard as it’s beautiful camouflaged behind high hedging this peaceful oasis. The moment we pulled into the driveway someone was out to greet us, showed us around the property and took us to our cottage, Plumstead Cottage. Wow what an amazing cottage, tucked away at the back through lovely courtyard gardens, you enter the downstairs lounge, with a real fire, that we enjoyed using in the evening to take the cold chill from a warm February day. A lovely sink area with coffee pod machine and kettle, fridge stocked daily with complimentary drinks and water. Plenty of seating, table, and whirl pool bath. Upstairs in the bedroom, well appointed with slippers and dressing gowns that we made use of, Milton Brown toiletries in a roomy bathroom with massive walk-in shower with good pressure. Early evening around 5.30 to 6.30pm they served wine and hors d’oeuvres in the main house, beautiful selection, comfortable sofas and chairs around the fire or if a warm evening out on the porch. Breakfast was amazing, its the small touches like a personalised menu with your name on it, either served inside or luckily for us in February warmer enough to sit out on the wrap around veranda of the main house, waitress served, from coffee and juices, warm freshly baked pastries, fruit or porridge and then an freshly cooked entree, you didn’t need lunch after these breakfasts. If the weather was warmth enough you could spend all day sat in the beautiful grounds reading a book or watching the squirrels play in the trees, plenty of seating all around the grounds, hidden little oasis. What we loved is that we could leave the car alone for several days, and walk everywhere, from a nice 2 mile walk down to the harbour for our SB Whale Watch trip, explore State Street and all the shopping arcades and restaurants and spontaneously attended the film festival that was on during a trip. We look forward to coming back and only wish Simpson Inn was in every state we wish to visit!…
