We paid $155/night. Santa Barbara is expensive, but our room was very, very basic. Double bed, 2 hooks in the sink area to hang your clothes. No mini fridge, microwave or coffee maker. But the worst was that our room reeked of smoke. I called down to the front desk & was offered to have someone come up to our room & spray something to help. I am not interested in a spray that is trying to mask the stink, it would just add another smell. A room should not smell like anything, especially cigarettes. I thought all motel/hotel rooms in California were smoke free? They should not be renting out rooms before properly treating the room, all the bedding, including the pillows should have been washed. The big positive is it is conveniently located & they had treats for our dog.

This is your standard 1960's era motel that has been updated. My room was small but clean with a little workspace/nook which was comfy to sit at and eat/work on laptop etc. The floors are the wood laminate, comfy bed with good sheets and pillows. A thin blanket though so people inclined to chill may need a bit more coverage. Shower hot with a water with flow designed for water conservation. Room had one wall mounted t.v with cable and an AC unit that worked well, wi-fi, no problems with parking. The room did not have a fridge or hair dryer. This motel allows dogs for no extra fee. The grounds and area do not have much of a place to walk your doggie however. I had to get in to my map app to find the closest park for dog walking. So for probably one of the lowest price motels in Santa Barbara, it is a clean, bare bones room in a good location in the middle of suburbs with lots of restaurants and shopping options in walking distance. As a single female traveler, I felt safe here.

In town to visit son. Received a good price $83 inc tax. 1st room smelled like a smoker lived there. Changed rooms. Smelled better, but dirty. Sink had some mold, tub and surrounds very dirty. Floor dirty (as noted by the dirt from my feet when I stepped into the tub/shower).

Perfect spot for traveling on a budget with a small dog
Room and grounds were spotless, staff were friendly, price was great. Overall pretty quiet and an excellent location for all the things we wanted to do.
Only downside was no fridge and no in room coffee but coffee was available in the lobby.
We absolutely would stay here again.

First time ever staying at a motel 6. Desperate on a holiday weekend. Small but clean room. No amenities; no coffee maker, no microwave, no Refridge. Ice machine at the back of the first building. Lovely clean pool. Right across the street from a nice breakfast restaurant.

It may be the cheapest property in Santa Barbara. It' not near the beach or the downtown but remember the sunshine is still the same and is free. The furnishings are threadbare and you get all of one thin slab of soup. However, the pool is nice and considering this is the #2 Motel 6 in the chain (in age) the construction is remarkably solid with walls that keep out the noise. There are strip malls nearby with most of what you need and Farmer Boy close by gives a good breakfast to start the day.

We stayed here on 4/7 having been unable to secure any other accommodation in Santa Barbara as it is was the holiday weekend. My boyfriend had stayed in other motel 6's on the East coast and he found them fine. For a start State street is very long. We were over 3 miles from centre of town. Hotel was easily accessible with parking and a small outdoor pool. Room was small and basic, carpet smelled and was in need of a good shampoo, bed was very basic, with the most awful nylon bedspread. I wouldnt stay there again but we had no option in this case. There were alot of hotels in the area and a very good launderette 5 mins walk from motel 6. If I were to stay in SB again I would endeavour to stay closer to centre.

I knew going in not to have high expectations of a Motel 6 and I knew we only needed a place to sleep for one night so I didn't think it would be as horrible as it was. If I could give zero stars I would. Something seemed wrong right away because the comforters were totally wrinkled but I thought maybe they left them sitting in dryer too long. Wrong! Underneath the comforters were sheets full of long black hairs. The fan in the bathroom also wasn't covered. My husband asked to be moved to another room. The next room the AC had a high pitched noise that you couldn't correct. In the 3rd room, one of the beds totally buckled when my husband was checking for hair in the sheets. The 4th room that we ended settling with still had many hairs in the bed and boogers on the wall next to one bed. I cleaned the wall myself and we all slept on top of the comforters and got up early to get out as soon as we could. I'm currently washing everything that touched any part of those rooms. I will never stay at a Motel 6 again!

Staying at this hotel in May was like coming a full circle for me. I first stayed here over 10 years ago when I was just starting grad school at UCSB and looking for a place to live. It was nice to be able to get away and revisit this property.
I've stayed at a variety of hotels in SB from the fancy to the plain. I think that this is probably the best value hotel for the money for certain things.
1. The location is excellent and very central if you want to hit my favorite beach--Hendry's. It's also quite close to the freeway to make a speedy trip to other parts of the city (but it's definitely not 'on' the freeway)
2. The rooms have been refreshed and are pleasant and clean. In comparison with some of the other new 'hip' budget hotels in SB, I think the amenities in terms of towels and blankets were much better here
3. The hotel was really quiet. I'm a light sleeper, but I really didn't hear a thing and the hotel was completely full when my husband and I stayed there
4. Dog friendly! If you're going to take your dog to SB, then you're going to take it to the beach, right? This hotel is dog friendly, there's no dog fee, and you're about as close as you can get to the best off -leash beach in SB.

Spend a night on Motel 6, State Street again. Have been there before and will definitely come back. It's just a nice experience - everything works, is clean, the lady at the reception is so welcoming, gives you all the right information in a quick and polite manner, and at the same time makes you feel you're a special guest to her. I know this is "only" a motel - most people pass by and for many of us, it's just a bed for the night. But finding such a well functioning and welcoming bed for the night is a rare experience.
Go for Motel 6, State Street if you want a stay at a reasonable price.
