This is a retreat... not hotel, but Trip Adviser doesn't have a category that fits. I've been going here since 1983, when things were a bit different. No phones. No radio. No TV. No newspapers. The property itself sits right next to San Ysidro Ranch, where it costs $1000 a night for a cabana... But the Center is much less... More

This is quite frankly my favorite place in the world. Peaceful, quiet, beautiful. The food is wonderful and the staff are the loveliest ladies. It isn't a place to come if you want to be pampered like a celebrity, but if you enjoy simplicity, this place can't be beat. The grounds are absolutely inspiring. And the price is beyond reasonable.... More

Reasonable rates, but customer service is below average. They quickly asked for a donation, saying they were financially strapped. Some of the personnel were definitely not peaceful or joyous, as one might expect at a spiritual retreat. Instead of experiencing "spiritual renewal", I felt emotionally uncomfortable. The Center for Spiritual Renewal is part of the La Casa de Maria Retreat & Conference Center which is peacefully located in the semi-rural foothills of Santa Barbara, just 90 miles north of Los Angeles. The 26 acre tranquil sanctuary offers the following amenities, including a dining room, plus an outside dining patio; a large chapel and small meditation chapel; labyrinth; walking paths; hiking, peace garden; organic orchard and vegetable gardens; book & gift shop; swimming pool; yoga; and massage. Individuals and couples are invited to deepen their spiritual journey at the Center for Spiritual Renewal. The Center is the original stone manor house, of both architectural and historic interest. It provides gracious guest rooms and delicious meals Tuesday to Sunday.
