The Hampton Inn & Suites Santa Monica garners mixed feedback from guests. While the hotel's location near the pier and the Pacific Coast Highway is frequently praised, concerns about nighttime safety have been mentioned. The rooms, though often found to be clean and well-designed, suffer from inconsistent housekeeping, with some guests facing discomfort. The lively atmosphere is sometimes disrupted by loud drumming. Travelers enjoy the amenities but have reported issues with pool towels and hot water. Opinions on value are divided, as some guests consider the hotel overpriced, citing uncomfortable beds and costly parking. Service quality varies, with instances of both commendable and disappointing staff interactions.

It’s expensive for sure, but the rooms and public spaces are in immaculate condition, the AC is perfect, and the showers even have a touch of luxury. There is no view to speak of and the complimentary breakfast is not quite on par with other Hamptons, but it is within a shouting distance of a metro station and just a few blocks from the Santa Monica pier which you can almost see from the front door. Busses also run right outside, and there’s an Enterprise rent a car some blocks away (ask for Kyle, he’s a hero in our books). Lots of Ubers around too.

We didn’t mind the lack of a view even from a higher floor, or the somewhat lackluster breakfast. My only small gripe is that they automatically opt you out of housekeeping so if you arrive after 5 PM you won’t get any housekeeping the next day. For a hotel that costs as much as it does per night I think this is just lousy service. That’s a small thing, but again not something you want discover when returning to the room late at night.

We chose this location for easy access to the Santa Monica pier on foot and straightforward access to the Pacific Coast Highway by car. We loved both options. The metro was also surprisingly convenient for accessing Hollywood and even the Griffith Observatory (we rode the Dash bus for the last leg).

There are plenty of shops and restaurants around. There’s a mall just a few blocks towards the beach and we were lucky enough to come across a food fare just a few blocks away from the hotel. Try Loulou for great pizza. Our son also loved the game arcade on the pier, which turned out to be pretty affordable.

All in all we had a great time here and would stay here again.

We are Hilton Honors members and stay exclusively at Hilton properties whenever possible. They are dependable and consistent, but are always missing the small details that would bring them to great in my opinion. Service is always excellent and property is always well maintained. The details that are consistently missing: GOOD COFFEE, lighted magnified makeup mirror, nice fluffy towels and lots of them, more than one bar of soap, extra pillows. At this hotel we had three pillows, if you are going to sit up and read you need at least four. There was not a single wash cloth so I used a large towel to wash my face. Only one bar of soap and no shower gel so the soap travelled from sink to shower a few times. No top sheet on the bed so we were sleeping directly under the quilt, kind of creepy wondering if they wash the quilt after every guest. This hotel had excellent security which I appreciated because the neighborhood is a bit sketchy. You could not enter the hotel at all or use the restrooms in the lobby without a hotel key. If you didn’t have a key the receptionist would have to buzz you in. Valet parking only and expensive at $49, but worth it for convenience and safety. I did not take advantage of the pool or breakfast, but nice that they have them.

I wholeheartedly recommend a stay at this hotel. It checks all the boxes in a no-frills environment — the location can’t be beat, a few short blocks from the Santa Monica Pier and beach, Third Street Promenade and restaurants — no car needed if you plan to stay in the immediate area. There is a Metro train stop located across the street and this area appears to be a hub for city busses, so lots of accessibility. Plus a bike rental store a couple blocks away, beautiful Tongva Park down the street and a mall with a Nordstrom just steps away. The hotel staff was very helpful and friendly; we were able to get an early check-in and late check-out and the free breakfast buffet was a great spread with plenty of food. We requested additional towels and housekeeping responded quickly. We didn’t use the pool or fitness room but I checked out these areas out of curiosity and found both areas clean and in use by other guests. Thank you Hampton Inn Santa Monica for a wonderful stay! We will be back!

Balcony door broken both lock and dead bolt chain also broken, dirty linen and bedding, front desk staff generally unhelpful. After 24hours and now answer on the poor hygiene and security amenities within my room and I know the hotel can’t control this issue “after getting chased by one of many homeless on the street outside the hotel” I checked out early. As a business a guest who travels to the USA frequently IG never had this kind of experience ever at a Hampton Inn or a Hilton hotel.
Made a make shift door lock from spare chair as you can see in the image.
If your not ok as a tourist or a business guest feeling threatened in the street by homeless in a place unfamiliar avoid this location. And surrounding hotels within a 3 block vicinity.
Coffee station not regularly stocked and told to wait till breakfast for fresh coffee.
Staff mostly unhelpful.
If I can attach images of the broken fixtures I will.
My only hope is that another single female traveler dose not have the same experience I had here at the Hampton inn Santa Monica.
This hotel is close to all major attractions yet it’s not the safest place for a solo traveler, I can’t recommend this location or hotel to anyone I know.

I work in the airline industry and stay in many branded hotel rooms on a regular basis. I booked this hotel for the Hilton name as I feel overall safe and cared for at their properties. My partner and I traveled to Santa Monica so my elderly mother didn't need to travel alone from Florida to visit a friend of hers. She stayed with her friend while we freely discovered the Santa Monica area! Santa Monica downtown area was lovely but the hotel was a disappointment. The area approaching the hotel lacks a feeling of safety & comfort and the very loud train station across the street caused consistent noise. I will acknowledge good communication through the phone app with an easy check in and verbal explanation of the neighborhood with the front desk. I had upgraded the room as I wished for a balcony since my partner was celebrating her birthday that day and I wished for it to be an extra nice stay. The room which was a suite was very plain and lacked any warmth. The balcony was awful. I've checked out their website since and they show nice furnishings on the balcony with a welcoming look. The balcony we got had one loveseat size couch on it tucked in a corner. The couch had stains much like a couch in a fraternity would look like. We chose not to even sit upon it. Otherwise the balcony was completely bare. Very disappointing! Hot water was lacking during our stay. Showers were uncomfortable and quick at best. We tried both early and later in the morning for a hot shower; neither time afforded one. The keyless entry to the hotel failed one day for several hours and were told we needed to use the secondary entry. The breakfast was acceptable and status quo for a Hampton. The pool area and hot tub were nice though the hot tub needs resurfacing. I was disappointed to be charged $7 for a large bottle of water from their small reception area shop when right down the street is a Trader Joes with 16 oz bottles of water for .49 cents. On-site laundry was $3.50 per load for a wash and the same for a dry. The staff was very helpful when items were requested. Overall, should another visit be had to the area, we will be staying elsewhere. I feel like what I signed up for us was not received.

At our first day the room was only made for two persons, I do believe that can happen sometimes, but after talking to the reception twice I would think it should have been handeled. The third time, at eleven thirty PM we got sheets, but had to make the bed ourselves, and we didn’t get any pillows. When talking to the receptionist again we were told they were out of pillows!!
Second day, all out of breakfast. Housekeeping skipped our room. Talked to the receptionist and got the housekeeping to make the room.
Third day, went down early for breakfast, was ok. Housekeeping skipped our room, and still no pillows..
Fourth day, no housekeeping and they had only left two sets of towels the second day, got two more from the front desk.
Fifth day, no housekeeping. Breakfast was cancelled due to power outage.
Sixth day, no housekeeping. The room is now full of sand and trash, no toilet paper left. Front desk offers us 150$ off the rate ( of a total 3700$) and new toiletpaper, but no shorts since housekeeping again is Off.

This Hampton Inn is a great choice for visiting the beach areas in West LA. It is close to all the shops and restaurant in Santa Monica. I didn't love the service/front desk staff - I found them curt and impatient when I had to ask them anything. The room itself was great and comfortable. I stayed in the Large King Suite with Balcony. The floors however could've been cleaned better. I ran a paper towel across many sections of the floor and it came up black. I would expect better cleaning during Covid times. The breakfast offering was just ok, got you what you needed, plus I understand it was during Covid times so some times are limited there. This isn't my first stay at this location. I would probably stay here again. Just hoping on some improvement on the staff there.

Please explain the science of suiting up with food service gloves that don’t even protect you from jalapeños. Yes the breakfast is staffed with someone making sure you all don gloves to get food and dine. Please provide any studies or guidance for this requirement as it is completely pointless and honestly demeaning to anyone with any level of intelligence.

Overall I am dissatisfied with my stay. I was okay paying an increased rate for a last minute weekend getaway on a holiday weekend, fine, no problem. However, our room was terribly noisy during our one night there until 330am. When I went to finally call downstairs the phone wasn’t working. The food was lacking at best. I couldn’t even eat my dry bagel it was almost moist in the package. The fruit was rotten and when we went to get juice to make up for the fruit we were told we were only allowed to go through once. Our room was missing it’s chair and ottoman so we only had the bed to sit on and when we asked for a late checkout they denied. One poor gentleman in front of us got 15min. Staff was not courteous or welcoming. They were formal and scripted in their guest interaction services. The parking was not included or discounted for hotel guests and we they only had valet services. Being as we come to LA 2-3 times a month, we will not be staying here again. Not worth the money, at all.

Very nice, reasonably priced Hilton hotel located 15 min walk away from the Pier. Newly furbished, very clean rooms, not much of a view from 5th floor but bright. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Workout room is well maintained and the pool, though on the 2nd floor, seemed fun for the family swimming in the warm afternoon limited sun.
Breakfast was plentiful and typical fare, always substantial amounts.
The only downside was parking which was unlimited in/out privileges at $52/night which was expensive but probably par for the neighborhood and safe considering there is a homeless population about.
Would return.
