The Gateway Hotel in Santa Monica is very clean and includes free secure parking with the stay. The fitness room is average size for a midtown hotel, but handy outside hotel in next building that also hosts an excellent SoCal style Mexican / CA fresh restaurant - SOCALO. Great location near Wiltshire street’s “Meal Mile” of restaurants when walk two blocks up 20th to Wilshire St. Also only one block to Providence St John’s Hospital. We were here for medical reasons and a moderately discounted medical rate was provided. Very much appreciated.

I stayed her one night for the LA Marathon 2020 and the Gateway did good...

Front Desk Lobby: The staff was very friendly with our check in. We requested an extremely late check out at 6 PM and they were able to accomodate us for $69. We needed the room to shower and rest after the 26.2 mile race. The lobby had a nice lounge area to relax in and there were some PCs available for internet access and to print boarding passes. The whole area looked renovated and had a clean minimalist theme.

Rooms: We had two queens in our room and the renovated clean minimalist theme was evident here as well. The floors were wooden and the bathroom was spotless. We received two complimentary bottled waters. There's a refrigerator to keep drinks/food cold and the flat screen was newer and operational.

Overall this is a pretty nice hotel that's about 1.5 miles away from 3rd street promenade and the Santa Monica Pier. It's away from the traffic madness that occurs in that area. It's an easy Uber there or using any of the motorized scooters works too. There's a couple of dining options within a 1/2 mile radius if you want to stay close as well. I will definitely check out the gateway next time I'm staying in the Santa Monica area again. Bon Voyage!

I stay in this hotel because I live out of town and receive medical treatments at UCLA Hospital. I am guessing I stayed here about 20 times over the past 4 years. Although some specifics have changed over times, most recently due to the Covid-19 concerns, our stay has always been pleasant and this hotel has been consistently clean, efficient, and offered friendly service. I normally travel with a family member and we rent a room with 2 queen size beds. There is a refrigerator and a coffee maker. Pre-Covid the coffee maker had all the fixings to make two cups of coffee; now you have to request them and pick them up at the front desk. There is a desk with adequate plugs for computer or chargers, and more plugs on the night stand. Presently breakfast is served in bags which you pick up from the front desk between 7:30 and 9:30am. This morning my bag included an orange, a light yogurt, a granola bar, and a double chocolate muffin. I also picked up coffee and cream to make two cups of coffee in the room. The location is very convenient and we never had any issues there, so I can wholeheartedly recommend this hotel.

This property features everything one could want in a hotel room: soft colors, cool ocean art, a safe and fridge, pneumatic flush toilet, double reading lights at each bed, and a window that actually opens! I was impressed.

The hotel lobby is warm and inviting with daily complimentary copies of the USA Today and Wall Street Journal. Staff is friendly and helpful.

The location is excellent; Walgreen's is within two blocks, the Socalo Mexican restaurant is adjacent to the hotel and Fromin's deli featuring tasty meals daily is only three blocks away on Wilshire Blvd. Also within walking distance is the 17th St Expo Line light rail station featuring trains to downtown Santa Monica or Los Angeles. With these walkability and transit options I was able to leave my car in the hotel's underground garage for my entire stay.

Will definitely book this hotel on my next trip to Santa Monica. Its value is very evident.

Upon check-in, Mariana at the front desk pleasantly explained the process and amenities and made my wife and I feel at home— no small feat when everyone is 6ft away from each other and wearing masks! Sometimes the staff alone can make a place worth staying and this is one of those cases. She helped find another room for us, which was a very kind gesture.

The only minor— and I mean minor — change I would suggest to the hotel would be to include inside the room a small notice about what has been sanitized in the room. This would spare us from going a little over-the-too with the hand sanitizer.

We stayed here during UCLA's graduation period to attend a family event. So first of all in terms of getting to UCLA and Westwood or to go to Santa Monica Pier this location is very convenient.
The room was clean, staff friendly, however for the price we paid, I would say it felt more like a nice motel 6. The Wifi was bad, I mean really bad, we were on the first floor and it disconnected every 60 seconds, our lap-top really was unusable. The refrigerator in the room really was on it's last legs, it was able to keep our fare just above room temperature, not much more. You can't make coffee in the room, for well over $300/night, you should be able to make a coffee in your room.

We were on the first floor, room 109 and it was noisy. You could hear everyone getting on and off the elevator and their conversations quite clearly, luckily some conversations were quite entertaining, but I would prefer that they stay private for those individuals. At 06:00 someone starting vacuuming the floors outside our room, I guess that explains why the place was very clean, but not to nice to wake up to.
In some ways it was good to be on the first floor, because the elevators were very slow, one reason why we heard so many conversations. No ice machine on the first floor, so I had to take the elevator up to another floor to get ice, which is why I know the elevator is slow.
They have ample underground parking, but if you want to take the steps up from the underground parking it takes you outside the hotel's main entrance around the corner. No way to take the steps up inside the hotel.
The bed was comfortable, and the rooms are clean, but we expected a lot more for the type of money they are charging. Mind you not unreasonable expectations, but they just couldn't quite get there.

Although my family and I live relatively close by in Westlake Village, we elected to stay at the Gateway Hotel during my mom’s brain surgery. During this incredibly stressful time, the staff was accommodating with an early check-in, extending our stay, and a late check-out (free until 1pm and a reasonable fee to stay until 6pm). The hotel has a generous hospital rate and the rooms are clean and modern. It’s a comfortable, no frills hotel, and everything was so easy and stress-free. The sun deck on the 4th floor allowed us to sit outside and take in the Santa Monica breeze. Every staff person we came in contact with empathetic, kind, and really sweet. Thank you, staff!

The Gateway was a lovely way end to our holiday.
Right from check-in the staff were polite, helpful and efficient.
Plentiful free underground car parking and 30 minutes to LAX.
The room was clean and comfortable, the windows are double glazed, reducing the noise from the roads.
We used the No.1 blue bus for $1.25 each to get into town near the pier.
The hotel is reasonably priced for Santa Monica. No breakfast but lots of eating places around the hotel. We did eat at Scolomo (restaurant attached to the hotel). We weren’t impressed, overpriced small portions and the smallest cocktail I’ve ever had :(
10 Speed Coffee was great across the road and it’s always worth a trip to Mendocino Farms for any meal.
We would definitely stay at Gateway again. Thank-you!

This clean and cozy hotel has a modern beach feel with very reasonable rates. The location felt safe as I walked about 15 minutes to Whole Foods, and it is a perfect springboard for exploring Los Angeles. The front desk person, James, was very helpful and pleasant at check-in. I wholeheartedly recommend The Gateway Hotel!

Dear P&D, Thank you for your interest in the Gateway Hotel Santa Monica. We appreciate you sharing your concerns with us; we are located in the mid-city neighborhood of Santa Monica and one block from St. John’s Hospital. Since we are primarily in a medical community, the area tends to quiet down at night and the concentration of night life is in the Downtown Santa Monica area, located 1.9 miles from the hotel. Favorable reviews that we receive from our valued guests are that “the area is safe,” “our location is convenient,” “the area is walk able,” to name just a few. We look forward to welcoming you to the Gateway Hotel Santa Monica, should you have any additional questions we are happy to help!
