me and my wife stayed here Spring of 2019 and enjoyed ourselves. Myself i prefer a Modern 2020 style hotel. My wife absolutly loved this place.. it is more of a beach house appeal to it! its conveniantly located close to the beach (maybe a 3 min walk to the sand) they also rent out bicycles that we did and rode up and down the beach. Would stay here again. the parking is my only complaint.. I parked on the street and had to make sure my meter was plugged when the car was left!
After reading all the reviews of Santa Monica hotels that weren’t too expensive, I decided to take a chance on Bayside and I’m so glad I did! I was on a month-long bike trip camping and moteling and splurged for this stay and it was wonderful! Nice, comfortable room w great amenities, coffee maker, snacks and drinks available at the front desk, walking distance to the pier and restaurants. Quiet for where it’s located. Just what I needed!
Positive: clean bed and bath. You can take a parking space in the back yard for 28 USD, which is fine. Happy I took a basic room and did not pat extra for the ocean view: I would then enjoy overlooking a street and seeing an ocean somewhere there, as the building is not very tall. They did some restyling, I assume-not sure why they put a new nice flooring and left horrible carpet, which was not clean enough. Fine for one night, but photos and descriptions are definitely misleading.
Someone did a good job with the photos for this place because it is definitely not bright, white and airy w/ great views of the ocean. It's clean and serviceable, but I was looking for a nice place to hang out when not site seeing (this was during covid and fires so we knew we'd be spending time in our room). We were on the first floor, our patio did look on to the ocean but you could not see it because of the parking lot right in front of the hotel. I paid way more per night then this room or view was worth. I asked for an upper floor balcony but they only had a queen and we paid for a king with a kitchen. We did not really feel safe when outside. People would walk through the patio area, in front of the rooms, and out the locked gate. One night, someone in the parking area (metered parking right in front of our room) was blasting music until the police finally came by around midnight. We sat on the patio eating while we watched some guy go to every person who parked at the meter, he put in a coin on a string to fill their meter and then asked for money in exchange. The meter maids are militant, so watch out for that. We watched them give out several tickets in the times we sat outside eating. There were people on the patio in front of our room smoking despite the no smoking signs. Staff did not notice (the lobby is a room right by the front) and we had to tell people twice to stop smoking. The last night we were there, people who were staying on either side of us, were out in the front patio yelling to each other, smoking and talking loudly. There were people in the back garden area, right behind our window, smoking and listening to loud music. We finally called the front desk at 12:30am and he said he didn't hear anything but he'd go look. I have no idea how he couldn't hear unless their office is better sound proofed than our room (the walls were paper thin and you can hear your neighbors in your room). The noise then did stop. In the morning we complained to the front desk. He apologized and said security walks around 3x a night. Then he charged us $12 for the 3 bottles of water we got during our stay. In other words, he couldn't even comp us our waters for the unpleasant night before. This hotel would be doable if; they kept on top of unsavory randoms hanging around, they lower the price if they don't have the room type pictured available for your stay, if they spaced out the guests better. I can't imagine on a weeknight in the middle of covid that the hotel was so booked they had to book 3 rooms in a row!…
Cute hotel across the street from the beach. Our room included an eat-in kitchen & fridge. Beach towels and chairs were provided, which was a nice surprise. The staff was extremely helpful. If you want an affordable place to stay on the beach this is a great option.
