Only stayed here for a night. Rooms were larger than we expected though very dated. No help at all from "Reception" with luggage even though they saw us struggling. Bathroom was also not very clean. Overall an okay place to stay but wouldn't recommend it for more than one night.

I am so sorry that you were not offered help with your luggage. What time did you arrive so that I can speak with the staff. Our rooms are deep cleaned after someone leaves the hotel and then is inspected by our room supervisor. I will also look into this as it is not the norm. Thank you for staying...

You could argue that it is expensive for what it is and that would be correct, but this is Santa Monica which is outside of the realms of normality - price wise. The rooms are dated, but clean an huge. The location is second to none and the staff are welcoming without being intrusive. A big shout to the cleaning...

Stayed here for 3 nights and thoroughly enjoyed it. After a long drive from Yosemite we were warmly greeted by the receptionist who, seeing that our allocated room was unavailable, upgraded us to an upper floor apartment overlooking the pool. We parked our car in the hotel bay and left it there for the duration of our stay, safe and...

It is not s stylish modern hotel/motel but it offers good value and is within walking distance to most attractions of Santa Monica - only 10 minutes to the main promenade, shops, cinema and an easy walk to the beach. Again, rooms are not modern but they are large and spacious.

Thank you for your honest review. We are dated but out linen is new and we have replaced the old tv's with new lcd flat screens in both the living room and bedrooms. We do take pride in a clean hotel room!. Again, thank you for staying with us. Regards, Douglas Newton General Manager

Time has stood still at this hotel (but the pricing hasn't)! Firstly it does have a great location for shops, cinema, restaurants and Santa Monica beach. Very spacious and useful suite of rooms, although the bathroom is very small and has no storage space. clean and the staff do a good job in a friendly manner.Rooms 205, 206, 207 and next...

We decided to spend a couple of days in the LA area before our Mexican Rivera cruise. We booked this hotel for a couple of reasons. For starters, my Mother was scheduled to arrive two days before DH and I and I wanted her to be in a safe location so she could get out and about. Secondly, we booked...

The Cal Mar is in a great location, being an easy walk to all the shops and restaurants in Santa Monica, and isn’t too far to the beach either. As we were on an 18 day trip we had lots of luggage and we loved how big the suite is – plenty of space to hang clothes up and lots...

Thank you so much for your review. We know that we are dated but truly try to give you a very clean room. We also have just decided on a carpet for the upstairs with a special padding to help guests below not to hear footsteps. We do hope that you will stay with us again and see the improvements....

Imagine a 1950’s motel with rooms on 3 sides overlooking a pool. That’s what came to mind as we made our way to our room after checking in. Pros: Location is good. Not just a room, it’s an apartment (kitchen, dining area, living room with pull out sofa, bedroom, and bathroom). Cons: Very outdated. Lack of counter/cabinet space in bathroom,...

Thank you so much for your review. We are outdated and we know it. We have improved the towels and linens, new flat screen tv's and now the bed covers. We do have plans for the bathrooms to be made some bit larger with basins that have counter space. We do hope to see you again! Regards, Douglas Newton

Good big room with bathroom & kitchen/dining, but noisy - poor sound insulation. Suites laid out around a central courtyard & pool, a la Melrose Place. No meals, no safe, no elevator. Minimal staff & service. 4 blocks to Santa Monica Boulevard, 6+ blocks to Santa Monica Pier & 1 block to the 3rd Street Promenade.

Staying in Santa Monica

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Monica
Santa Monica is a coastal town that maintains a balance as a tourist destination and as an area with a thriving local culture. On the beach, bikers, roller-bladers, runners and walkers move along the famed bike path enjoying the beautiful Los Angeles weather. The solar-powered Ferris wheel at the Santa Monica pier spins high above the water, while park revelers scream with delight riding the roller coaster. Inland from the beach, Third Street Promenade bustles with shoppers and street performers, where every block seems to have a musical or acrobatic act drawing crowds giving Santa Monica both the feeling of a laid-back beach town and a major commercial hub.
