Inspired by the grand villas of the Mediterranean and the beachy vibe of Santa Monica, Hotel Casa del Mar invites you to unwind in style. Its vibrant new ocean view lobby and Terrazza Lounge by interior designer Michael S. Smith are a contemporary contrast to its classic Italian Renaissance exterior. Originally built in 1926, this exquisitely restored oceanfront hotel in the heart of Silicon Beach offers some of the most coveted accommodations on the West Coast. Each new exquisitely styled guest room and suite showcases local coastal art and residential design, many feature sweeping vistas of the coastline from Palos Verdes to Malibu. No matter where you are at Hotel Casa Del Mar, you are only a stones through from the pacific. Indulge in eco-minded wellness at Sea Wellness Spa before discovering farmers-market-driven selections at Catch Restaurant as you watch the sunset or just grab a cocktail in Terrazza lounge and enjoy the view.
Santa Monica is a coastal town that maintains a balance as a tourist destination and as an area with a thriving local culture. On the beach, bikers, roller-bladers, runners and walkers move along the famed bike path enjoying the beautiful Los Angeles weather. The solar-powered Ferris wheel at the Santa Monica pier spins high above the water, while park revelers scream with delight riding the roller coaster. Inland from the beach, Third Street Promenade bustles with shoppers and street performers, where every block seems to have a musical or acrobatic act drawing crowds giving Santa Monica both the feeling of a laid-back beach town and a major commercial hub.
CDM is a beautiful beach side property sitting next to Shutters. The rooms have a cottage beach theme, the lobby has echoes of a Mediterranean palace and the staff is warm, accommodating and professional. The in house restaurant offers terrific food, there is a bit u-shaped bar for cocktails and there is usually a musician or two playing softly in the background, creating a great atmosphere to relax. It's not inexpensive but so worth it.
I come to visit my daughter a couple times a year. Have tried three or four hotels until Casa Del Mar which is now where I always stay. Everything from the staff to the accommodations to the restaurants are pretty much perfect. Extremely friendly and professional
A hotel on the doorstep of the LA Beach, close to the iconic Santa Monica pier and facilities nearby. This is one of those places that should be on anyone's bucket list of lifetime experiences and worth the cost. To add, it is family friendly but can cater for any other travel group. The charm evokes memories of halcyon days.
I do not understand the negative reviews of this hotel. We travel fairly extensively and would rate elegant property at the top end of our list. It all starts with the staff- from front desk to wait staff to valet- top notch service with always a smile. We loved the open, spacious lobby lounge and restaurant. We had the breakfast plan with American Express and the breakfasts every day were delicious and plated well. Easy access to the strand and beach. The pool deck, while small, is very private with awesome sunset views and crowd watching below. Highly recommend without hesitation.
The beds have recently been "upgraded" to be extra large. If you are well above 6 feet tall you might find this acceptable. As someone who is not, I did not enjoy having to request a step stool to get in and out of bed. This is something I have never had to request from any other hotel as I am considered average height at 5' 4" tall. The hotel is beautiful, great staff, excellent food, all at a an amazing location. Just know that unless they change the beds you may or may not be able to get in and out of bed without assistance. Good Luck! :-(

Yes, there are several restaurants an easy to find mostly up near 3rd street. I would walk North to the pier. Nice pleasurable walk wide sidewalk on beach, but be aware of bicycles on the path. Some riders peddle rather fast. With lots of people around during daylight hours not a problem but use caution during the darkness. Lighting is adequate in evening hours but there are also many transient people looking for opportunities.
