PROS: excellent location in Santa Monica. Close to the beach. Very clean. “Affordable” in comparison to other hotels in the area. CONS: because of its location, it is very loud at night (traffic and people screaming). The hotel itself has thin walls and one can hear absolutely everything. The entire hotel is very very dated, the room with one queen bed is extremely small. Only 2 feet from the end of the bed to the wall! The bed is super uncomfortable , like sleeping on the floor. Covid aside, the room has ZERO amenities (no coffee maker, no refrigerator, no microwave or plastic disposable cups). At this time there is no housekeeping service, I personally was not even offered new towels ( 3 nights) or garbage pick up service. There is a musty smell in the room and all around the hotel. If you are 20 and have no problems sleeping at night .... then stay here.

Hi Wingstomdreams, Thank you for taking time to post a review from a recent stay with us at Hotel Carmel. We really appreciate your mention of our location and pricing value that makes Hotel Carmel a great option for a visit to Santa Monica. We apologize for not meeting your standards of room amenities. It's tough for us not to have those items as well. However, due to the pandemic we've decided it's best not to have items in the rooms. However, we do have several restaurants and deli on property where you can get coffee, tea, water, etc. We are in the process of looking into placing all of the amenities back in the rooms. If by chance your travel plans include a return trip to our area, our team would be honored to welcome you back to Hotel Carmel. Wishing you safe and exciting travels always, Team Hotel Carmel

Stayed here for 3 nights for business. Room is a little bit on the dark side but spacious. Bed nice and comfortable. Bathroom clean. Location makes it ideal to walk around to all the restaurant and shops in the area. If you want to stay in the area its less expensive then the other hotels.

Stayed here one night at the end of our Route 66 trip. Booked for its location and price. Short walk to the SM pier. Easy parking in a parking garage next door. This is an old hotel. Old carpet, old furniture, musty smell. There a zero amenities in the room. No fridge, no microwave. There was a desk with chair and a small dresser and a bed. That’s it. It’s a place to sleep not hang out. It served its purpose for us. We were actually at the property only about 15 hours.

Hi gilladj, Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your direct feedback from a recent stay with us. All of our associates here at Hotel Carmel appreciate hearing about our guest's experience. I hope I can adequately convey that our team values and appreciates each one of your observations including the overall poor impression of our furnishings and carpet. Giving all respect to your post, there are some highlights for selecting Hotel Carmel for a visit to Santa Monica besides the best location in the city and the pricing that you mentioned. Our hotel is meticulously clean in a safe and secure environment. There are no additional fees or charges. The rate quoted or confirmed is what you are going to pay plus tax. You are supporting "buying local" from family ownership. We have no pretense of being anything other than what we are,a reasonably priced hotel in a very expensive hotel market. We hope you enjoyed your time on your Route 66 adventure and that we were a stopping point. Best wishes for safe travels always, Team HC

This Carmel is in great location at the heart of Santa Monica and walkable to pretty much anywhere in the area. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The reception area is an attractive ’40’s period style, the rest of the hotel follows this style but is tired and a bit shabby. Our room was small, with a beautifully made and comfortable bed, clean bathroom, the only furniture being a tall set of drawers and a closet. It was clean but the decor needed serious updating.. There were many larger rooms available at the time so we were surprised we weren’t upgraded. The only problem we had here, was that when we asked for a late check out - 4.00pm as we had a late flight, they said they weren’t allowed to give late check outs but said we could check out at 1.00pm. Given there were only eight rooms occupied in this four floor hotel, and at the time LA was shut down due to the coronovirus, this was to say the least, disappointing.

Hotel Carmel is situated in a perfect location in Santa Monica, one block from 3rd St and two blocks from the beach. Very good value but the hotel is a little “tired”. It’s clean and the beds are comfortable Recommend. One issue is $30+ valet charge. It’s convenient but there’s a public car park next door for $20 all day
