PROS: excellent location in Santa Monica. Close to the beach. Very clean. “Affordable” in comparison to other hotels in the area. CONS: because of its location, it is very loud at night (traffic and people screaming). The hotel itself has thin walls and one can hear absolutely everything. The entire hotel is very very dated, the room with one queen bed is extremely small. Only 2 feet from the end of the bed to the wall! The bed is super uncomfortable , like sleeping on the floor. Covid aside, the room has ZERO amenities (no coffee maker, no refrigerator, no microwave or plastic disposable cups). At this time there is no housekeeping service, I personally was not even offered new towels ( 3 nights) or garbage pick up service. There is a musty smell in the room and all around the hotel. If you are 20 and have no problems sleeping at night .... then stay here. …
Stayed here for 3 nights for business. Room is a little bit on the dark side but spacious. Bed nice and comfortable. Bathroom clean. Location makes it ideal to walk around to all the restaurant and shops in the area. If you want to stay in the area its less expensive then the other hotels.
Stayed here one night at the end of our Route 66 trip. Booked for its location and price. Short walk to the SM pier. Easy parking in a parking garage next door. This is an old hotel. Old carpet, old furniture, musty smell. There a zero amenities in the room. No fridge, no microwave. There was a desk with chair and a small dresser and a bed. That’s it. It’s a place to sleep not hang out. It served its purpose for us. We were actually at the property only about 15 hours.
This Carmel is in great location at the heart of Santa Monica and walkable to pretty much anywhere in the area. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The reception area is an attractive ’40’s period style, the rest of the hotel follows this style but is tired and a bit shabby. Our room was small, with a beautifully made and comfortable bed, clean bathroom, the only furniture being a tall set of drawers and a closet. It was clean but the decor needed serious updating.. There were many larger rooms available at the time so we were surprised we weren’t upgraded. The only problem we had here, was that when we asked for a late check out - 4.00pm as we had a late flight, they said they weren’t allowed to give late check outs but said we could check out at 1.00pm. Given there were only eight rooms occupied in this four floor hotel, and at the time LA was shut down due to the coronovirus, this was to say the least, disappointing.…
Hotel Carmel is situated in a perfect location in Santa Monica, one block from 3rd St and two blocks from the beach. Very good value but the hotel is a little “tired”. It’s clean and the beds are comfortable Recommend. One issue is $30+ valet charge. It’s convenient but there’s a public car park next door for $20 all day
