Cavallo Point, nestled near the iconic Golden Gate Bridge, offers guests a slice of serenity with its picturesque location and historic allure. While the hotel receives accolades for its luxurious spa, comprehensive amenities, and cozy fireplaces, some guests have noted inconsistencies in room quality and service, ranging from charming spaces with scenic views to instances of unresponsive staff.
The lack of soundproofing and central AC is also mentioned, with many feeling the experience doesn't justify the premium pricing.

The location was gorgeous; lovely buildings surrounded by trees with incredible views and access to great hiking trails with iconic views right off the property. They also offered yoga, art classes, and cooking classes that supported the wellness vibe, and the food was absolutely delicious and healthy. Meals on the balcony were set up to overlook incredible views of the water and the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco, and the hotel’s “town green” where people played with their dogs. SIngles could look straight out without feeling awkward, and there was a great feeling of community. Staff was also warm and friendly, and willing to make your stay as wonderful as possible. Rooms were clean and spacious, and the bathtubs and showers were perfect. The lavender soaps smelled incredible, and wonderful bubble bath and bathing salts were provided for the bathtub.

Perfect weekend stay. Cavallo feels so far away from the hustle and bustle of SF and yet is only a walk away over the bridge. Perfect for couples wanting a little staycation by getting out in nature, relaxing in the spa but still enjoying creature comforts and feeling pampered. The historic homes are old but they are fully renovated and have their charm. The room rate is not inexpensive but there are lots of extras-like enjoying the spa, yoga, guided walks, a small breakfast, free wine cocktail hour, free e-bikes, etc. All in all a wonderful stay in a beautiful place.

Cavallo Point offers a breathtaking location just north of the Golden Gate Bridge, with spectacular views right from our room. The room itself was beautifully decorated and well-maintained, providing a cozy and luxurious experience.
Although our stay was brief, we made the most of the on-site amenities, including the restaurant and the 24-hour gym. The restaurant staff were polite, attentive, and very engaging, making every meal a pleasant experience. The gym, while standard for a hotel, had everything you would expect and was perfect for a quick workout.
Unfortunately, we didn't have time to try the spa, but it’s definitely something we’ll explore on our next visit. Overall, I would highly recommend Cavallo Point to friends and family. My wife and I are already planning to return for our anniversary!

nice space, so close to the city, but ultimately not worth the cost. i think worth it if around 500/night for a 2-person room. here are a few suggestions: 1) test out prices ahead of time. of note, they do price match if you find a cheaper deal - when calling, ask to speak with the front desk, not the reservation line which is off site etc. 2) FOOD: dinner at the restaurant on site was truly *not* good. tasteless. cold. even salad was a bust. i suggest having dinner out of the resort, and instead sitting at the resort restaurant for a drink, small appy, and then leaving to nearby places for dinner 3) take advantage of the bike and lexus - fun! 4) SPA: take advantage of the 2 hours at the spa! book massage ahead of time should you want to do that. the pool is heated to a lovely 99' 5) get a humidifier for the historic room if that is where you are staying - they are available for free (they should just come with one) 6) hike around the property, and especially for sunrise - gorgeous - get up early. 7) ROOM: i prefer the "historic room" - they are cute. but hot as many mention and not the easiest to feel comfortable sleeping in with temperature changes. my room had a fan. it faced the lawn which was nice. no historic rooms have a few of the bridge. only contemporary rooms - and in that, only the contemporary rooms with suites i think.

Cavallo Point is a gem of a place to stay, relax and recharge. I was in town over President's Day weekend for a family baby shower in San Rafael and arrived after being in Las Vegas for a weeklong work event. I had originally booked this resort at the suggestion of my SIL due to its proximity to the city/Marin as well as a special rate of book two nights and get the third free. The location of Cavallo Point is fantastic. It's a 45 minute drive from the airport but close to Sausalito and other quaint towns in Marin. It is placed nicely with a view of the water and the city and its broad lawn makes you feel a million miles away from the hustle/bustle of everyday life. I stayed in one of the historic rooms, which was nicely sized with a large bathroom and one of the most comfortable beds in which I have slept in quite some time. Pillows are a perfect assortment of hardness. Sheets are soft and cozy. Housekeeping comes twice a day, which is unexpected given most hotels have eliminated this service at such a frequency. We also dined at Farley twice during our stay - I highly recommend it for the food, wine list and atmosphere. For sure make reservations as it was quite busy.
The only challenge I had during my stay was parking - self parking is available but can be a bit tight (most guests end up parking in unofficial spots along the lane behind the homes).
This is really an excellent place to stay and I look forward to returning - although next time I will for sure make time for the spa too.

I wish this was a 5 star review since the stay and amenities were so expensive.
My husband and I spent a few nights in the contemporary king room with the golden gate view. We wanted a mini staycation to unwind. The room itself was cozy and comfortable. The view from the private outdoor patio was beautiful and as advertised. But the room is not sound proof and if you’re on the ground floor you will definitely hear everything happening upstairs. This defeats the purpose of a relaxing staycation but not much we could do since we already paid. We also did not know the rooms were conjoining until our arrival. The bathroom was outdated and the fan definitely didn’t work. There was this constant musty smell like a wet towel was left around every time we went into the bathroom. Tub was also dirty on arrival.
My husband also requested cookies and milk be brought to our room after checkin ($40). But we never received it. When he sent an email to the front desk they responded the next day that the order was cancelled due to my nut allergy. While I appreciate the precaution, it would have been nice if they notified my husband and let him know he would not be charged. He should not have had to chase them for an answer.
We scheduled two massages at the spa. While the staff was very nice and the spa itself was beautiful - the massages were just okay. The spa does not offer couples massage. The masseuse who worked on my husband was late. He told my husband that he would still get the full 60 minute massage. But when the masseuse finished and left the room, my husband looked at the clock and he did not in fact get the full 60 minute.
The restaurant had decent. The servers and bartenders were all nice and helpful. The best dish is definitely the bread in the skillet. I’m still thinking about it today.
The entire property is very beautiful but I’m not sure if I would return. I do not believe the price was worth the experience.

This is the first time visit to Cavallo Point Lodge for us. We have been interested in visit your lodge as it is the top location at the foot of Golden Gate Bridge and in historical setting of Fort Baker. Our best friend used to work in Presidio Trust as the historical preservation expert and we had opportunities to visit her residence in Presidio, so we are very curious how these historical buildings have been converted to modern high-end resort lodges. Our historical lodge was compact (compared to our friend’s residence) yet beautiful, comfortable and very functional. It is thoughtfully designed for the comfort of the guest, and perfection of elegant sustainability without excess. There were no cosmetic amenities of plastic bottles but the provided products in glass bottles have excellent quality. Room services (we did not utilize but they can bring cocktail to our lodge) available by scanning QR codes. Foods we had were comfort foods with subtle gourmet twists. We had delightful experiences. Location was best as we were in National Park that have many accesses to trails to hike and explore, yet it was so peaceful just sitting in front of the building having wine or coffee with great view. Many interesting opportunities were provided by the lodge further experience the area. (Morning Yoga, Saling, Renting e-bike or car, and on-site tour etc.) With attentive care of the staff, we had one of the best memorable stays at Cavallo Point Lodge. The experience should not be missed.

We stayed for one night in January and while the dining was great, I had the butternut squash frittata for breakfast, I really want to cheer for the resort amenities. We paid a total resort fee of $60, but this included in room snacks (trail mix, asiago cheese twists, caramel corn, two cans of San Pelligrino tangerine and strawberry mineral water, a Lavazza espresso machine and a kettle and tea bags); and in the reception area, morning coffee and pastries, late afternoon glasses of wine, free e-bike rental, history walks and group hikes. But the best part was the 2 hours spa pass. The whole spa area is peaceful and serene. There was a slight hiccup with scheduling so I recommend making a reservation at the time of booking to ensure they have space. It’s really nice to find a place that doesn’t nickel and dime you for everything. All-in-all a great experience.

I visited Cavallo Point for a weekend of leisure, in one of Historic King suites.
I’ll try to be concise: the room was a slap in the face. No natural light, no view, no fireplace and no soaking tub. It seems the features in the hotel’s rooms can vary greatly between the same room type, and they don’t bother to distinguish rooms by these features, tjough I was told on arrival that I’d been placed in “the best room for the category”, which…well, you can imagine how one in my predicament would feel hearing that.
The service was also shockingly uninviting. On arrival I did not receive, nor was I offered, valet parking, and was told to simply leave my car standing somewhere until I checked in, and look for my own self-parking; there was no assistance offered for my bags. On check-in I wasn’t given any sort of overview of the hotel’s amenities; on check-out, I wasn’t even asked how my stay was (I imagine they had some idea already).
The restaurant and its menu offerings were simplistic and lackluster, a steady reminder that you’re *not quite* within the boundaries of one of the world’s premier dining metropolises.
One other thing I feel obliged to mention since some people care about these things: despite booking through the portal with my Chase Sapphire Reserve card, there was room upgrade offered; in fact it almost felt like I received a room downgrade.
Hotels such as these are typically something of a detour, off the beaten path and away from the central conveniences and attractions of the city, and should come with accommodations to impress and service to write home about. But at Cavallo Point, from start to finish, I felt like an inconvenience.
