Travellers' Choice
Panoramic San Francisco Bay views are the signature of The Inn Above Tide. This intimate Sausalito waterfront hotel with 31 rooms and suites is a magnificent location for a uniquely inspiring luxury retreat. Chic and understated interiors lead to simply mesmerizing views from the private furnished room decks. Sited directly on SF Bay, every room has sweeping views of the bay, city skyline, Alcatraz, Angel Island and Marin. The spectacular but brief ferry ride to SF is mere steps from the hotel. Intimately connected to the village of Sausalito, yet magically separated due to its bay front setting, The Inn Above Tide is a minute’s stroll to galleries, restaurants and shops. The scenic vineyards of Sonoma and Napa are just a short drive north.

Imagine you're in this elegant, spacious room on a yacht in Sausalito overlooking the Bay, Angel Island, and the San Francisco skyline. Oh, except your room doesn't rock with the waves and it is easy to go downstairs to visit the heart of this eclectic town. From the moment you arrive, you are treated to elegance. An excellent wine and cheese plate is brought to your room to enjoy as you watch a spectacular sunset from the deck. Unlike a yacht, the bathroom is equally spacious with a soaking tub, shower, robes, etc. The bed is kitty-corner to two right angle walls of glass and points directly out towards San Francisco. The dawn was equally spectacular! The big challenge is what to order for breakfast and getting up early. We chose to spend all hours of light in the room and then went out to a great sushi restaurant for dinner after dark. The vistas are just too rich to pass up. One of the most special places we've ever stayed. An excellent spot to celebrate the moment!

I was looking for a hotel to spend 1 night for myself (and away from my family and work) so that I could recharge myself. (It's been a rough year). I considered other luxury hotels in SF Bay Area but I end up selecting this place because of the view that it can offer and other great reviews shared in Tripadvisor. Oh boy, how come I don't know about this place earlier? I spent a Friday night on Mar 12 with their Deluxe Queen. Upon arrival, I headed to the front desk and asked about the parking situation. The front desk lady gave me a parking permit to park on the parking lot next to the hotel. The front desk did offer help for luggage but I declined since I only had one bag. After I parked my car, I brought my stuff with me and walked back to the hotel. (It's like a 1 minute walk). The small yet elegant lobby reminded me of the small hotels my family used to stay when we traveled in Europe. During the check-in, I was asked about the wine selection & timing for having it in my room. I picked 5:30PM to receive my wine/cheese. I think my first surprise was the room's key. Yes, the key. It's an ACTUAL key. The key was put in a sealed envelope with a very cute key chain as well. I found it interesting that I needed a small key to open the fridge. At 5:30PM, my wine/cheese was promptly delivered to my room. I highly recommend to book the room with the balcony so that you can enjoy the view with their wine & cheese. Although outdoor dining was available in Sausalito, I end up getting takeout and enjoyed my dinner at the balcony as well. For the Queen Deluxe, it's a perfect room for solo traveler. The balcony and the sliding window (plus the gorgeous view) reminds me of being a luxurious cruise ship. The room is definitely larger than a typical cruise state room. It's spacious for me. The bedding is comfortable and luxurious. I like it how they position the bed - the bed faces the window so definitely you can still see the view comfortably from your bed. If you don't like to be waken up by sun shining upon you in the morning, make sure you pull the curtain before you sleep! The room also has a pair of binocular and a little guide for you to use to enjoy the view even further! For the bathroom, the water pressure was spot on. The bathtub is deep enough for a really nice soaking bath. The arch above the bathtub is an interesting detail. The round window in the bathroom further reminds me of being on a ship. I read plenty of the reviews that rave about their Bvlgari toiletries. I think they are wonderful not because they are Bvlgari, but I love the scent from those toiletries. Second surprise was their plushy slippers. Most hotels in America don't provide slippers. If they ever do, they slippers are usually quite flimsy. The ones they have it here are phenomenal - thick bottom with plushy material. Definitely love the walking-in-the-cloud feeling! Continental breakfast was included. I placed my order the night before and they arrived on time on the following morning. I regret that I only ordered one slice of their quiche. I don't know if they bake those in-house or partner with a local bakery for it - but that quiche was exquisite. Don't forget to try their freshly squeezed orange juice: it's the best! And don't forget to take your breakfast spread to the balcony and enjoy your breakfast over there too! The third surprise during the stay was seeing newspaper delivered to my room. Yes, morning newspaper! I know most places don't do it anymore. But seeing the newspaper outside of the room when I opened the door reminded me of my childhood travel experience. So here are the not-so-perfect parts. One thing, I could hear the water going through the pipes when others (not sure if it's from my room above or next to me) flush the toilet or start the water for bathtub. But it's not like I could hear someone's taking a shower in their bathroom though. The noise is there and it's a bit muffle. It didn't wake me up or anything like that but I could hear it when I was awake. Like I said before, the balcony reminds me of being on a cruise ship. That means you can also hear others talking at their balcony just like you are on those big cruise ship (if they talk loud). A young couple staying above my room had been chatting since I got to the room at 5PM and they were still chatting by the time I finished my dinner at 8PM. I don't mind eavesdropping their conversation (it didn't bother me at all - their conversation kept me accompany) but if you want absolute quietness at the balcony, definitely consider coming here during the weekdays. This place is very popular during the weekends and I doubt you can find a room without neighbors at that time. In terms of COVID - the room was clean. I was given two PPE welcome kits (I didn't use it at the end though). If you worry about air circulation, the beauty of the balcony room is that you could open the sliding door to let some fresh air coming in. Overall, I had a very lovely stay here. It was a perfect night away for my momcation. I wish I could stay longer for sure! This is a perfect spot if you want a place to recharge or reconnect (I can see why so many couples coming to this property). I can't wait to come back next time - whether solo for my momcation or reconnect with my significant other.

This is the place. On the water with incredible views, walking distance to everything, easy access to the ferry, 3 miles to a gorgeous beach (go early), and hiking everywhere. Local tips: Go to the sushi place on Caledonia, walk along the water (duh), and if you are up for it, find the stairs and wind your way to the top of the Sausalito neighborhood. For the super pro tip, on that stairway tip, pack some wine/cheese/waters and a blanket and find the park at the top of the neighborhood. Also, expect for the deck to be magnetic - it's tough to move off off the balcony, if your room has one. Take-out on the deck a couple of times were our best meals. (Bring a couple of blankets.) Finally, mid-week is way mellower in Sausalito - it can get busy on the weekend.

We booked a King delux fireplace room for 2 nights. We were assigned a room on the 3rd floor which had 2 walls hinder our views. I couldn’t bask in the sun after noon because there is a roof! I was kind of unhappy that they couldn’t give us a room on the 1st or sec floor where you have a panoramic view deck, which defeats the purpose of paying extra for a deck room. I wouldn’t mind paying more for a panoramic deck room if they told me ahead there are huge difference in rooms. Other than that, the location of this hotel is undeniable the best. It’s on water with a sf skyline view and is surrounded by restaurants and stores. I’ve been to many 4/5 stars hotels and Inn above tide is on the pricy side.

My husband and I had been here a few years ago and had a wonderful experience and decided to book this amazing Inn... We treated ourselves to the Panorama suite! Check-In was seamless and professional. We had champagne on ice in our room followed by a complimentary cheese plate with white wine (PUURRRFECTTT....) The bathroom is jaw dropping and has too many amenities to list... YOU will be delighted... The location of this Inn and service are why you stay here... A PANORAMIC view... deck... amazing room... right above the water... We only stayed one night and it felt as if we were there for a week. This is when you know that you have relaxed and lost time for awhile... All Covid-19 precautions taken by staff and the INN cleaning department. Suite was extremely clean. The hardest part is leaving!!! A must stay for anyone wanting a great escape. We will be back!!! Thank you for an amazing "mini" getaway!!! I almost forgot. The continental breakfast (One Chooses from a Door Card) is fantastic! Fresh Fruit, bagels, coffee and the fantastic treats!!!
