Sausalito is a town that could pass for a Mediterranean enclave, and The Gables Inn as a pensione, hidden from the thoroughfare, but just a half a block away from the breath-taking waterfront views of the Golden Gate and San Francisco. As you enter, you are greeted by the rich wood interior of the charming lobby and by the friendly...

This is a fantastically situated hotel. One needs to be aware that not all rooms have a great view so when making a booking ask about the room you would want to have. Room I had (#302) had some view of the harbor but I think there are rooms with a better view. The stay was very pleasant. The person...

Could not have selected a better place to stay in Sausalito. Beautiful room, great breakfast, and amazing evening wine and cheese cocktail hour (and a half). This was out of the ordinary with unique artisan chesses and many many assorted unexpected selections. Without a doubt the best cocktail hour experienced at a hotel/Inn. Sissy was on duty the evenings we...

Gorgeous comfortable room. Easy to find, close to everything, fantastic location! Quiet and clean. Sissy at the front desk was fantastic! Take advantage of wine and cheese happy hour! Great wines, cheese, strawberries, nuts, olives! Love Sausalito! Will definitely return! Thank you Gables Inn!

From the pleasant, personal greeting from Sissy at the front desk on arrival to the final breakfast, our two night stay (in two different rooms) was a wonderful experience. After driving all day, the complimentary wine and cheese offerings was a welcome treat. The public area area in which it was presented was comfortably furnished with a very warm feel....

Then there was the Gables Inn; that after nearly 200 nights in hotels in 2013. I stayed in 3 to 5 star hotels in over 70 cities in the US this year. These included landmark and historic hotels, high rise leading brands, and boiler plate hotels with artificial egg breakfasts. The Gables Inn changes the hotel paradigm. Check-in starts with...

First, the complaints: the carpeting in the rooms really needs replacement; although very comfortable and easy on the eyes, it's getting old and tired. And the room cost is high, like so many properties in the San Fran area. Otherwise the Gables Inn is a great choice, and one that we will return to (and in fact, this was a...

There is a lot to love about the Gables Inn in Sausalito. The location is fantastic for exploring downtown Sausalito on foot with easy access to the ferry, great dining, and a nice array of shops and galleries. The wine and cheese reception in the lobby was lovely and included a decent selection of olives, cheeses, and crackers. Likewise, the...

We've visited the Bay area on long weekends a number of times and have found that we prefer staying in Sausalito to staying in "The City." When we were unable to book at our "regular" hotel we booked a room at The Gables for three nights. At just over $200/night + $20/parking we found this small inn to be an...

We stayed in the Lilac Room in October (What an amazing tub this one has) plus a lovely view of the city and it was a very quiet room, too! We loved the ambiance of this place, including the wine and cheese hours where we met other guests and the very substantial breakfast (lots of fruit, yogurts, baked goods...anything except...
