Detailed Reviews
Despite all the restrictions, the staff really made the most of the weekend. They still have the barrel train rides, although reserved times for individual families; and mini golf was still open with everything being cleaned between use. Our RV camp site was spacious and easy to pull into. Minimal leveling required for us. The grounds were awesome and the walk to the fishing pond was a hit with the kids. Felt like home as soon as we unhooked the camper. Would definitely go back.

We ended up coming here when our friend’s RV couldn’t fit at another campground and it ended up being a blessing disguise. Although the sites are close together compared to other campgrounds it was *very* relaxing. The sound of the freeway didn’t bother me much because there were plenty of songbirds and peacocks (they’re off in the distance somewhere) to detract from the highway. The kids had a blast riding their bikes through the campground and playing miniature golf. We enjoyed the family friendly atmosphere. Everyone was very respectful of quiet hours and was courteous of one another’s space. This helps make the campsites not feel so packed in.
Yes, it is a pricier campground but the family friendly peaceful vibe makes it worth it. I know that Covid has increased costs of businesses while forcing to closure of some amenities. I don’t feel it’s fair to reduce their ratings because of this. Their operating costs remain the same or are even more. I really did get the feeling that they are trying their hardest. I saw staff around the campground constantly. They were maintaining the grounds, garbage pickup, etc. I got the feeling that they take a lot of pride in the campground.

The Placerville KOA is family run by John, Cindy and Jay as well as others and they all make sure that our stays are the best experience that they can offer! We have been enjoying their Resort for over 16 years and haven’t had a bad stay! They have great activities for the kids like their playground, the Pee Wee golf, the petting zoo, water slide, arts and crafts, swimming, fishing pond, and the KOA train! Our campsite is shaded and is always in a ready to enjoy condition! The trash cans are in convenient locations and are emptied throughout the day. The restrooms and showers are kept very clean and there is plenty of extra parking for our guests. We look forward to our next stay at the Placerville KOA!

Stayed at this KOA in Feb 2021. Their flyer states they know they are the most expensive KOA and blame it on the COVID problems. Stated they have to close 20% of their sites. When we stayed there one entire section was closed and the other half had campers packed in like sardines one next to the other. So much for social distancing! The rates were extremely high - $100 per night but not Many amenities any longer But fees sure do not reflect any discount for reduced amenities. This visit left a bad taste in my mouth. Price gouging and a bunch of BS about following COVID guidelines. I would have believed it if they spaced campers every other space. Do not recommend this place due to pricing even though it is clean and they have a good dog run area which is important

Never did we see ourselves as evacuees from a harrowing fire for nearly 3 weeks, but here we were. Vagabonds r us.
We were welcomed, accommodated, listened to with compassion and our anxieties were quelled.
The staff was friendly and helpful. The staff that disposed of the mountains of trash was glorious. It didnt stink!! So many people had animals and since we were all in the same boat, the mood was respectful.
Food was arranged every evening.
A massive display of free clothes, toileties, toys, groceries, blankets, paper products, water, diapers,,, you name it, it was there.
To top it off real genuine N95 masks were distributed for patrons!!!! Really?! I cant get them at work let alone at a campground!!
Who would have thunk it?
And let me tell you about Jay….there is too much to say. Patient, good listener and problem solver!
I am so grateful!
Please include your stay at KOA in Shingle Springs the next time you rv/camp in the Highway 50 area. You wont be sorry!

The pandemic has changed some of the amenities and procedures RV'rs have been used to, but good parks like this one have adapted and done their best to keep us safe. I have stayed at this KOA many times in the past and always appreciate the location, facilities and good care management and staff provide. My last trip was no exception, even given the changes and adaptations. I am so glad they remain open and will return again regardless.

We have stayed at the Placerville KOA a number of times. We love the park - it's fun to walk around and see all the animals, the pond and the beautiful location. It's hard to believe it is right off the freeway but it's as though you stepped into another world.

Booked a last minute camping trip with the kids and our dog. We booked a tent site over the phone which cost $85 dollars. We show up and the site is literally the bare ground next to a high traffic bathroom with a path that goes right through the campsite. We didn’t get any sleep whatsoever as groups and individuals were waiting in line in our campsite to use the bathroom. Major nightmare. There was also dried up dog poop in their dog park. Also, the freeway is right on the other side of the property line. Finally, there is absolutely nothing to do within walking distance of this place. DO NOT STAY HERE!

Our pricing, campground location (adjacent to the freeway), and distance to all local destinations is available via our website. It's also just a phone call away if you have any questions. We do have complimentary earplugs available at the front desk for light sleepers who request them as mentioned on our website. Site 99 is one of our largest and most requested tent sites for families. It's located directly across the walkway from the playground, close to the pavilion, and individual use restroom on the hill. It also has a view of the movie night without leaving the site. There is no walkway thru the site itself and nobody waits for the restroom in anybody else's site. I'm sorry that you felt that was the case. If you did not like the location of the campsite when you arrived we would have been more then happy to move you to a place you were more comfortable. Guest experience is our top priority. We walk the dog park constantly to water and maintain it. It is widely known as one of the largest and most enjoyed dog parks in the KOA system by our reviews. Our guests are fantastic about using the available scooper and free available potty bags. If we missed picking up something I do wholeheartedly apologize. We will work harder to ensure no other guests have such an experience in our dog park. I do apologize that we were unable provide the refund requested. We had to purchase a new door handle to replace the one you destroyed trying to gain access to our closed store at 12:15am. I do hope you find a campground that has the amenities you're looking for. Safe travels.

Even with winter weather we had a great time at KOA Placerville. Took the family and met friends. Great facilities with new attractions, we really enjoyed the weekend movies and Sunday's outdoor breakfast that they prepare. KOA Placerville is well kept, clean and has lots to do for the kids. We'll be back soon.
