Very friendly, helpful staff, unfortunately, the room was in pretty bad shape. The furniture was beat up, no coffee maker, just the bare necessities. And I mean bare. If you wanted hot water you needed to get it from the shower! Basically you had a chest of drawers with a TV on top, a King bed, and a spartan bathroom - and all of it needed a complete face lift. It wasn't dirty, just hadn't been updated: it needed paint, there were cracks in the walls, rust around the tub, old, threadbare draperies, etc. It's the kind of place where you keep your socks on until you get into bed...and even then...
That said, it was one of the few, inexpensive places in Solvang we could find that would take our two dogs - which was an additional $15.00 per dog per night charge. So - if you don't mind a property rough around the edges, then it's a bed and a roof over your head for for you and your fur babies for the night. And they throw in a coupon for complimentary coffee and a danish from Olsen's across the street.

The room was an okay size, furnished with a king bed (very hard mattress), two nightstands, a small desk and chair and a round table and two chairs. The furniture was rather beaten up. There was only a lamp on one of the nightstands. There was no phone (probably not important since everyone has a cell phone), no clock, very few wall plugs and no USB plugs. The wallpaper was torn. There was a great deal of ground in dirt on the door and door frame to the bathroom. The towels were very thin. The water, when first turned out came out an ugly brown. There was no smoke alarm in the room. There was a microwave and a fridge but the door to the freezer compartment was missing. These are things that might be overlooked at an inexpensive price but for $170 a night it was ridiculous. Solvang does tend to be expensive but for that price they need to do a lot of remodeling. For not much more you could stay somewhere much nicer. For breakfast they gave a voucher for a Danish pastry and coffee at a bakery across the street. If you tried to go there in the morning the wait was about an hour in line to get waited on. Even closer to noon, the line was 30 minutes long. Really not worth it.

It’s a work in progress. The Inn is currently being updated. Some notes the Inn could improve on: the bathroom doesn’t need all those drawers. An open counter below the sink is easiest to clean and doesn’t have to worry about moisture to wood drawers. Moisture warps the wood and paint fast. And if the soap dish could have ridges so the soap doesn’t get suck to the dish and dry faster would be easier to deal with as well. A full length mirror would be a nice addition to the door back of the door separating the bedroom (room 1). Everything else was nice. We found the paint color warm and comfortable, but not everyone would like a pink. Perhaps a neutral ivory that matches the new Viking Inn sign? Overall we enjoyed our stay and would happily visit again during our annual visit to Solvang. FYI readers! It’s next to a mini mart, super easy to pop over there and grab water or forgotten toiletries.

Thank you so much for taking time to give us your feedback! We have been working on each room - the pink is going to be gone (haha). We hope you'll come back to visit and see the changes the next time you're in Solvang. :)

Really the pits. Obviously all they care about is making the most money while providing the absolute minimum. This is a touristy town & they take full advantage. The bed had one of the worst, if not the worst mattress I have ever (tried ) to sleep on. The room was tiny, barely able to move around. The pillows were bordering on absurd, they were so uncomfortable; even the soap in the bathroom was the absolute cheapest. Absolutely zero conveniences (oh they did have a small fridge); no coffee maker, no microwave. As far as cleanliness is concerned, we arrived at night, and checked out as soon as soon as we woke up, so I can’t really say, except there were stains on the blanket although, they seemed washed out. They make it seem like you’re saving money by pricing just a bit below some of the other places, but hey, if you can’t get a good nights sleep what’s the point. You’re probably much better off going to the next closest town, and driving into Solvang.

This was my first stay at a motel, and it feels like we were disillusioned by some pictures on other websites. While it has a great location and friendly staff, the room itself was quite awful. The bed creaked anytime anyone moved, the toilet seat had an awful ring around it, and the towels were dingy. Definitely not worth the weekend price they charged.

I had a most wonderful experience staying at this awesome boutique motel! The staff was gracious and welcoming, and attended to every need. The room was clean and spotless with great décor, besides being peaceful and quiet (no earplugs needed) – I especially appreciated the blackout roller shades on the windows (no eye mask needed). Also, the nicely appointed bathroom with the great step-in shower was perfect. The bed was incredibly comfortable with great linens (could’ve stayed in it all day!). And finally, an inviting outdoor space with Adirondack chairs surrounding a cozy firepit. Great value. I can’t wait to return!

If you’re looking for a cute, modern, and clean hotel in Solvang that is reasonably priced, then this is it! The Viking Inn surpassed our expectations. I knew it was a former motel that had been renovated, but it was even better than I thought - hardwood floors in room, stylish tile in bathroom, good amount of amenities in room (coffee, water bottles, HUGE cable TV, black out shades). We didn’t have time to take advantage of their offerings like wine passport, bikes, or fire pit, but I wish we could! I did have my morning coffee sitting outside on one of the chairs and I loved watching all the people and cars go by. Would return.
Only thing that needs upgrading is the shower/tub - very old- but I know they are in the process of it.

Did not disappoint! Saw the property on Motel Rescue and had to see for myself. Great location, friendly staff, contactless checkin so didn’t have to worry about keys. Parking was a little crazy but it was ok. It is a motel so not a lot of amenities but the room had coffee microwave and mini fridge. The black out shades were nice and didn’t need ear plugs. Overall it was just a great little stay!!!

We chose this dog friendly motel for a visit to Solvang. The room was clean but couldn’t have been any smaller. The bath towels were paper thin and meant for a baby. The shower never warmed up, so I passed! The location was good. They don’t have breakfast but give you a voucher for a pastry. I would def make this my last choice!

We ended up staying here because our usual place was booked. We liked the contactless check-in w/the door code. Room was clean, upgraded and beds were comfortable. However, drapery was old and dirty, old toilet was noisy after flushing. The shower was hot w/good pressure. It’s a good situation for 2 people (2 Queen beds), but too small for 2 couples. Good for one night.

Hi there, yes we do.
Lisa J K asked a question Aug 2014
Hello, Viking staff and/or Tracy? I believe you know my friend, Tami Emry, who has stayed there recently. She has just told me of the upcoming reservations on Monday the 18th of Aug, staying through until Wed.or possibly Thurs. I am very pleased about this! The timing is perfect! Life has been very challenging and difficult (divorce/separation last 6 months in a 25 yr marriage, facing back surgery; I am having to use a wheel chair because of pain. Okay, so, enough complaining! Ugh! ; - D,) Tami also injured herself 2 weeks ago, broken/sprained ankle, fractured toes, toes, and all on her "GOOD " leg as she is disabled with the other leg! She desperately needs a bath and some quiet, clean comfort in a regular bed with TV, ect. Just a little TLC for both of us for sure! This is just what the DR ordered. I have a laptop and wondered about internet connection. It's not a huge priority, but just curious. Also, will there be a microwave available by any chance? I want to bring coffee to make and just need hot water avail. And, for Tami, she needs a bath and I hope you have a room available with a bath? It's a must with her as she can not stand and shower at this time due to her disability and broken foot. I , too need a bath as my back is bad and I have constant, horrible pain when standing too long. We are quite a pair! Money is tight, so we will bring snacks, drinks, water, and I wondered if the room also has a fridge? We both require ice packs, moist heat and elevation of our legs. I will bring extra pillows. I thank you in advance if you are able to reply soon, tomorrow or Monday early morning. Thank you. Thank you for your time and we look forward to seeing on Monday. Sincerely, Lisa Juliette Katnic (805) 636-8894 (Tami Emry's friend, previous guest at your motel (805) 324-3505)

I found the Internet connection to be reasonably good when we stayed here - I spent part of the night watching Netflix and didn't have any problems. Our room also had a microwave and a small fridge, but no bathtub. Perhaps other rooms have tubs, though? Enjoy your stay!
