The hotel is old, beautiful and very characteristic. Antique furniture is in the rooms and along the hallways and really brings this building to life. I love old and funky hotels and do not have a problem with things not being perfect--that's part of the experience. Having said that, everything in our room (32) operated just fine--hot water was hot, toilets flushed and water turned off all the way, bed was comfy. The room and linens were immaculately clean. It is apparent the owners take a lot of pride in this building.
Fun to stay in this historic spot on the plaza. The hotel and rooms certainly have character that is hard to get these days. We heard a little noise, nothing of significance, but also a Monday night stay. I don't think we would have been comfortable here long term, but really great to experience. Just a note that there is nowhere to store bags prior to check-in.
The two big pluses for the Sonoma Hotel are location and character. It sits on the edge of the main square and gives easy access to many restaurants and bars. It's an old building by American standards and the owners have retained its charm with sympathetic décor. I would only recommend the hotel for a stay of one or two nights as its age impacts significantly on storage space. We had to live out of our suitcases; our room had a tiny wardrobe and no drawer storage. There was a double size shower but the washbasin was in the corner of the bedroom which, unlike most modern hotels had a standard double bed rather than a queen or king size. The reception staff were friendly and helpful.
Stayed one night. Great location. Liked historical perspective of hotel. Rooms are small but comfortable. Drawbacks included noise (which seemed to be pipes knocking) and cold shower (we were told after the fact that we should have run shower 5-10 min before using).
We found this hotel on Priceline for a great value for the area (still not cheap). Great location and awesome staff. It had a claw bathtub/shower, super comfortable bed and nice smelli8ng lavender soaps and soak for the bath. I felt like I was staying in a room at someone's house. It had antique furniture, plenty of room & privacy. The only thing that wasn't good was the parking. The hotel does not have designated parking, so you unload on the street & then park the car - which was no easy task. It is directly above The Girl and the Fig restaurant & right on the square. I would definitely stay here again. Very charming.
We spent a night at the Sonoma Hotel last week and were very pleasantly surprised. It is located in the same building as the 'Girl and the Fig' restaurant right on the corner of the square. We had a room with 2 beds on the 2nd floor and the room was spacious, spotless and very comfortable. The ladies at the front desk during out check-in and check-out were very friendly. The hotel exudes old world charm and is perfectly located. Rates are great especially for this day and age! We will be back.
This is a great place. Tim, the owner is super— so nice & helpful!!! He made us feel right at home. It’s a historic hotel so the rooms are all different. The 3 rooms that we booked were all unique and comfy. Great location right on Sonoma Plaza. We highly recommend this hotel!
The hotel is on the square, 3 stories and offers warm cozy rooms. We stayed on the 3rd floor with a view of the square m a charming attic-like room. The rub had claw feet and everything was clean and well appointed. It has a bed and breakfast vibe with hotel convenience. We will certainly be back.
This hotel is situated in one of the oldest buildings in Sonoma village and overlooking the square. The owners have kept/made the interior in line with the historic feeling. Loverly rooms and wonderful details everywhere. Cosy and friendly. Situated close to all good restaurants, shopping and wine tastings. The only thing you should be aware of is that if you need a breakfast consisting of cereals, eggs, bacon, not sweet bread etc you need to find that outside the hotel, in the mornings you will find coffee, tea, muffins and other pastries in the lobby. We are fine with that, just pointing it out as some of our travelers are craving non-sweet breakfasts. Anyhow, we love this hotel and we keep coming back.
Sonoma Hotel had just what we needed...a comfortable place to sleep after touring around Sonoma and Napa Valley all day long. The accommodations are pretty basic, but when you're not planning to spend much time in the hotel, it doesn't really matter if they have a gym and a pool and a restaurant. The best thing for us was that we could walk to the plaza, restaurants, the grocery store, tasting rooms, and little boutiques. I would book this place again in a heartbeat.
