The Lodge at Sonoma Resort, Autograph Collection is often praised for its inviting atmosphere, featuring a warm fireplace and a cozy lobby lounge set amidst a beautifully flower-adorned property. While many travelers appreciate the modern bathrooms and amenities, such as the on-site dining and complimentary bikes, some have noted cleanliness and maintenance issues. I've been meaning to write a review on this Resort for SO long. This was such a nice experience, Sonoma in general is very relaxed and I feel like most of the people embody that same quality. Most of the staff was very helpful, I wish I remembered names, but there was a younger gentleman driving the shuttle that was so genuinely kind and helpful. There is on site parking, but the shuttle service to town is a huge bonus, ask for a map at the front and make sure to save the shuttle number. Make sure to visit the breakfast place in town, though--delightful vibes. You can also arrange a local wine tasting, which is definitely a nice way to start or end the trip--it can get overwhelming with so many wineries all over. The one thing I will say is finding a time to catch the woman who was arranging tours / trips / wine tastings proved to be a bit difficult. And while she was definitely helpful, our conversation seemed to be a bit scattered especially because people kept coming up to talk and interrupt. I did really enjoy the daily wine tastings, though--they're great to try before dinner. I also really enjoyed the on-site yoga studio and the restaurant--it was very good, had knowledgeable staff and seemed to be frequented even by people outside of the hotel. I used to work in hotels and this hotel was very clean, the rooms were nice and the patio outside the rooms are a nice treat. I visited the spa while I was there as well and received an amazing massage ! Would recommend. Traveling solo can be a little intimidating, but I really enjoyed my stay--I didn't feel as comfortable in my room with the location of it(some of the patios don't have as much privacy) and a gentleman (I believe a manager) personally walked me to different rooms that he thought I would feel more comfortable in. I also did encounter an issue during my stay, but the staff was helpful and quick to rectify the situation and I feel like that's a very important part of hospitality that sometimes can be missed. This is definitely a place that I will be coming back to !

This was our first time staying at The Lodge and we can't wait to return! We were greeted so warmly upon arrival - the Bellman opened the door for us with a big smile and hello and all 3 at the front desk said a big hello immediately upon entry. Heidi checked us in and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. Thank you so much, Heidi and team!

Our upper floor cottage was lovely. It was set towards the back with an easy walk to the spa, pool and lobby. Parking was easy and complimentary.

Breakfast (sunday brunch for us) at Benicia's Kitchen was outstanding. We have not experienced a breakfast this delicious in years. We eat out all the time so this is a BIG statement for us. The chilaquiles were the best we have ever had - with the tostada chips crisped and crunchy and yet flavorful all at the same time. The eggs benedict - I asked for the artichoke spinach version but with ham added - and it was spectacular. The chef has her/his game ON! Service was the only downside to the breakfast - our server was/is obviously new and learning. Daniel came to the rescue and graciously helped us and make the delish breakfast even more incredible. Thank you Daniel! You are a gem and set the bar for incredible client service and making your guests feel so special.

We can't wait to return!

We arrived here as a large group to attend a family wedding in a Winery nearby. Between the ten of us, we booked five rooms. Two couples got their room in the main building, the other two got theirs in the building across from the parking lot, and we had our larger cottage in the back part, behind the swimming pool.

We did not see the other people’s rooms, but our room was fairly large with a King Bed, a cozy sitting area, a fireplace, a little open balcony outside and a huge spacious Bathroom that contained some really nice, spa-quality amenities, plus soft bath robes in the closet. We were on the second floor, and it was quiet and peaceful there.

Our statuses gave us food credits at Benicia’s Kitchen for all the rooms, but given our busy schedule, we were only able to use those for Breakfast on the first morning. We left before they opened on the other days. We had dinner on our first night at Wit and Wisdom which was very nice.

We received exemplary service from all the staff members. The Bellman was especially helpful to us holding the door open while we were lugging items for the wedding, brought us a cart as we were unloading, and greeted us pleasantly every time we crossed paths. The Vintage VW painted Van outside was lovely.

The Grounds were immaculately maintained. Along the walking path, we saw roses and other flowers, pretty wisteria, berry bushes and tons of flowers outside. So pretty…

We loved our three-day stay here, and will definitely return on our next visit to Sonoma.

To start with the positive, the idea behind the design and the construction of the hotel is beautiful. The little ideas with outdoor games, wine tastings in the afternoon and lavender bags are nice

But this hotel has serious issues with communication, housekeeping and maintenance.

Four emails to different recipients prior to arrival remained unanswered a phone call to reservations with a request for a certain room location was not granted due to missing communication within the hotel.

The cottage itself was in a condition unacceptable for a hotel in the 600$ league. A closet door that did not close, filthy old carpet in bedroom, the fireplace glass so stained that we could feel the heat but barely see a flame and a bathroom so dirty that we asked to have
additional thorough cleaning.
After this additional cleaning the sticky light switch, the mirror and the floor were cleaned but limescale on shower door , brownish shower tub discoloration and toothpaste and/or soap stains on cabinets remained for three days.

I had higher expectations in this hotel brand but have the feeling that quite a few of the Marriott chain properties are heading this way.

The Lodge is a lovely property with hotel rooms and cottages. It has a lot of potential but seems tired and not especially well run. The pool area was not well maintained. Lounges had ripped covers and umbrellas were in need of maintenance. There is no lifeguard or pool attendants. The “casual’ restaurant is in need of training. Service was poor and meal can incorrectly. This was addressed but still annoying. Cottages were clean and ok. The shower has no handles for safety and the tv worked intermittently. These are some of the issues we saw. Nothing of great consequence, but taken all together not what one expects of a property in this price range.

Have you ever checked into a resort in silence?
That was our experience at the Lodge in Sonoma. I’ve never been to a resort where I was not welcomed and virtually ignored during our visit. Upon checking in, the only question asked of us was “is this your first time staying with us?” To which we enthusiastically answered “yes!” You would assume information about the resort would shortly follow… but it didn’t. Apparently that’s wishful thinking. We were checked in by Amanda who is filling in for someone at the front desk and working for Marriott. I don’t know how someone with such poor social skills could work for Marriott corporate, unless she’s a number cruncher.

The unenthusiastic staff continued out to the pool where the attendant took their time to get our food order. The server then forgot to bring us napkins so I just used their pool towels to wipe my mustard fingers on— their bad, not mine.

The staff at registration and out at the pool truly made us feel like our requests were inconveniencing them. I expected a certain level of professionalism and service considering the price of this place but I was left incredibly disappointed.

Of course, those working hardest were the women/señoras tending to the hotel rooms ensuring their cleanliness. They are indeed appreciated.

The only redeeming quality of this hotel is wit and wisdom restaurant, which is attached to the hotel. W&W went above and beyond to ensure a positive experience. Perhaps the expert staff at W&W could do a training of hotel staff?

The Lodge of Sonoma is a victim of its own cool factor. They think playing Xm chill all day and providing instagrammable sites is what makes a resort.

Please get a clue and work on your customer service. With all the accommodations in Sonoma, this is not one I will recommend. Look elsewhere.

Value for high room rates is nonexistant. Room was similar to any chain hotel along a freeway, but this is billed as a resort. Hot tub is tiny. Pool not heated. No pool service for food and drinks. Gym is tiny with cardio only no weights. Room very bleh. Shower was dirty. Bathrooms measure out a small amount of soap.water measued out too with no hot water. Gas fireplace screen dirty making flame invisible. Cheap uncomfortable furniture in cottage rooms. And nowhere did they offer hand sanitizers. Toiletries very cheap and dispenser mounted to shower wall like it.s a gym shower. Soap and shampoo puts out tiny amounts of each per pump.

The Lodge at Sonoma Resort is by far the best place to stay while visiting this area. The location is very coinvent, the staff is beyond accommodating, and the rooms are incredibly comfortable and well designed. I would highly recommend one of the cottage suites as the outdoor space makes you take advantage of vacationing in California's beautiful weather. I've stayed in many different hotels throughout the years in this area and this is the only one I cannot wait to get back to. It's a luxury resort without the crazy price tag that other resorts in the area with half the amenities are charging.

We made a last minute decision to stay here having decided that our original hotel booking was not in a great location. So glad we made the change (and paid the extra $) Our family had a Fireplace Cottage room. 2 queen beds and a pull out for five of us was fairly tight space wise, but we had a pretty outdoor fireside space and the grounds of the resort are gorgeous, so we did not have to spend too much time inside. Pool and gardens are beautifully maintained, hammocks dotted around the grounds to relax in. Each room has bikes that guests can use to make the short journey into Sonoma Plaza, which is delightful. Oh, and I'm not sure how they do it, but the whole place smells like lavender and orange blossom. Laurie, the concierge was fabulous and made us last minute reservations for a tasting at Patz and Hall - highly recommended. Did not eat at the flagship restaurant as prices were eye watering, but tacos from the casual eatery were delicious. Would stay again in a heartbeat.

I'm saddened to see many of the same complaints from others that I have today. This "Upscale" Marriott property just simply does not rise to the standards and expectations we've known Marriott properties to have. The staff is a huge reason why! Unprofessional attire by most - would expect uniforms or required colors to be worn so guests could identify staff more easily. As the wedding couple, we were not given the room upgrade we requested bc we were told "it wasn't available" yet one of our guests got upgraded to the room we requested. Strange yet attention to detail lacked across the board.
From using the property's event coordinator to paying our final bill A MONTH AFTER THE EVENT, our stay was absolutely subpar. Overcharging, not charging for items, staff arguing about the wine machine having wine in the bottles when the bottle was clearly empty or not dispensing, daily wine tasting - vendors ran out 3 of the 4 days we were in attendance, slow service in hotel restaurant, overpriced drinks and food.
Room lacked storage for clothing - we had to use the bedside table drawers for our things. There is plenty of room for a dresser in all the rooms we saw so hopefully this can be a quick fix for this property.
Again, the staff really disappointed us at this property. I asked for a room to put some flowers together in vases with a couple girlfriends for my wedding and was told "they were all being used and there was no area except for outside to do this." Mind you, it was 86 degrees outside and I was putting together fresh floral arrangements for the next day. They never would have lasted had we been outside. AND, like so many other reviews said, the hotel was not packed nor were all the conference rooms booked. The effort to go above and beyond for a bride to be having her wedding on property was non-existent. The staff had no idea a wedding was even taking place or a wedding party was coming in from out of state to attend. I'll spare more minor details.

Marriott, please take a deeper look into this property and the management of it. It's only as "great" as the people running it.

The hotel pool and jacuzzi are included in the resort fee. The spa garden whirlpools and sauna are included with booking a service or with a $50 day pass. Day passes are first-come, first-served based on spa occupancy.
