Absolutely fantastic place to stay in North Lake Tahoe - the rooms are cozy, clean, well stocked and brimming with charm (we stayed in Happy Trails and loved it, great views from the corner windows and can see a bit of the lake from the bed when you wake up). The staff are indescribably kind, helpful, accommodating and just an overall joy to be around - maybe cliché to say, but they really do go the extra mile to make sure you're cared for and valued as a guest. There is a market (great beer selection and good munchies!) about a 90 second walk from the property and two excellent cafes (Spoon and Fire Sign) right across the street, and easy access to some great snowshoeing/hiking trails, not much more you could ask for. We'll be back, ASAP! <3

We stayed 4 nights at The Cottage Inn in August 2022. We enjoyed Tahoe but this inn wasn’t the 5 star experience we expected from the many reviews we read while researching places near Tahoe City. Our 4 star review is overly generous. It should be 3 1/2. Since each room is different, we can only comment on the Happy Trails room.

Pros
Attractive exteriors and landscaping.
Nicely decorated room with large bath.
The property is almost lakeside.
Keyed access to a semi-private beach with many nice amenities.
Within easy walking distance from restaurants, bike and water sport rentals.
Next to great bike path that goes 15 miles.
Two miles from central Tahoe City and several great restaurants.

Cons
No A/C. Ceiling fan with no speed control.
Must keep windows constantly open to cool room. Open windows greatly impacts privacy and allows road noise.
“Home cooked” breakfasts are almost identical every day. You must eat them out of a box with plastic utensils.
(We were awakened at 7:00am one morning by an employee that accidentally delivered our neighbor’s breakfast to our room)
Dismal water pressure from shower head.
Expect sap on your vehicle as all parking is under pine trees.
Our room had no dressers or drawers.
Bed was way too soft. Cheap pillows.
Poor Wi-Fi. Lost connection frequently.
Room door requires a key. Only one key supplied. Key is on a HUGE , inconvenient fob.

There’s lots of potential at this inn and it’s in a great location. All things considered, we will stay elsewhere on our next visit to Tahoe. Having no A/C , impacted privacy and the same breakfast 4 days in a row are deal breakers for us.

My family came to Tahoe for a wedding, and one of my sisters found the Cottage Inn online. We booked four rooms so we could attend the wedding at Palisades Tahoe. I am SO happy that my sister found the Cottage Inn for us to stay! We all agreed that we were very happy that we stayed at the Cottage Inn over any other hotel or resort in Tahoe! The Inn has charming cottages on the property, and each room has a different theme. I stayed in the Cottage Time room and absolutely loved my two nights there! The bed was so comfortable as were the sheets and pillows! The rooms are well decorated and are so comfortable.

I loved sitting in the chairs under the tall trees on the property to relax and read. There is access to the lake, and we enjoyed some time on the lake as well. Each morning breakfast was brought to our rooms, and you can either eat in your room or on their patio outside the lodge. The breakfasts were absolutely delicious! There was always a hot entree along with a pastry, yogurt, granola, fruit and a hard-boiled egg. You can order as much or as little as you like.

We enjoyed talking with Kelly, the new owner. She's a warm and friendly person and made us feel right at home. The staff at the Cottage Inn are also so friendly, helpful, and they make sure that their guests enjoy their stay. I came away feeling very rested and am so grateful that I got to enjoy three days and two nights at the Cottage Inn. I wish that we had booked more nights there. I can't wait to go back!

My experience with the management was horrible. We had cancelled a night stay due to an emergency for which they could not refund us the money but gave us a night stay to be used in the future. When we decided to make the booking, they were extremely rude and flatly refused to give us the one night as promised, citing that the time had expired. They would not even consider our request and they tried to humiliate us. This establishment has been the most disrespectful and inconsiderate of their customers. I will never encourage businesses with such bad behavior.

Dear Hasnain, Thank you for sharing your experience, I am grateful to have the opportunity to respond. I am sorry for your experience, please accept my apology and allow me to clarify. The original reservation was made through Booking.com on May 21st, 2018 for 3 nights. Checking in on May 25th, 26th and 27th, 2018. The reservation was then cancelled through Booking.com on May 23rd, 2018. Per the cancellation policy stated on Booking.com the reservation is non-refundable. As the happiness of our guests is most important and we understand that emergencies arise, we offered you the opportunity to come and stay with us in the future. The guidelines expressed when the offer was made to you, was that your deposit towards a future stay had to be used within 6 months, the expiration date given was December 31st, 2018. When you called yesterday, January 27th, 2020 to inquire about making a reservation, I attempted to explain the reason we could no longer honor the credit. I understand your frustration with our policies, however, given the circumstances we feel our original offer was generous. It was never my intent to humiliate or disrespect you, I am sorry if that is how our conversation left you feeling. I hope you will accept my apology. Sincerely, Kimberley

My husband and I stayed at The Cottage Inn for three nights in September. It’s well placed for visiting Emerald Bay and is a short drive from Tahoe City. Breakfast is delivered in a cardboard box to the door of your room and no one enters your room during your stay although you can request fresh towels or coffee pods so it’s a good choice if you are keen to keep socially distanced from other people.

I cannot say enough great things about The Cottage Inn. We stayed here last week for three nights, as we were skiing in the area. The Cottage Inn came recommended by a friend/neighbor and we were so happy to have followed their recommendation. The room was super cute, quiet, comfortable and roomy (we stayed in the Cowboy Romance Room). The bed was comfortable. The bathroom and shower were a nice size. Every morning we had delivered to our room a wonderful breakfast, all delicious and freshly made. Kelly the owner is so accommodating and friendly, as is her staff. You won’t go wrong staying here - right on the lake. I’m somewhat afraid that it will be tough to book a room here, as word spreads. We will be back!

We love staying in Sunnyside. We stayed at this property years ago and were lucky to get a room, kind of last minute, for our California trip. Kelly, the new owner, is delightful and is doing a great job holding onto it's great reputation. Each room, or cabin, is unique and sweet. They provide coffee and half and half so you can make your own each morning. The boxed breakfasts are awesome! A hot choice as well as yogurt and granola and fruit as well as a fresh pastry, plenty of food! Walking distance to our favorite Firesign cafe as well as the Sunnyside restaurant and resort where we can rent kayaks. The refurnished market next store is so great and you can get food and groceries there as well.

The Cottage Inn was an incredible find and truly made our first visit to Lake Tahoe so magical. To start, the location is perfect if you want a more private, secluded feel. The property is directly across the street from a bike and kayak rental store. I highly recommend taking advantage of the bike rental, as the trail is located behind the property and was one of the major highlights of our trip! As a guest at the cottages, you will also have access to the private beach directly behind the property, which offers a much more private beach feeling that we enjoyed. The property is also a short walk away from an adorable local market that offers sandwiches, pizzas, coffee and ice cream, and groceries. As for the property, check-in was a breeze, and the staff were all kind and helpful. The cabin was perfect for our needs, and breakfast was delicious! The meals were hand delivered each morning and were packaged adorably. If we ever return to Lake Tahoe, we would return to this location!

Sweeeeeeet Review Felicia! Thank you so much for noticing the small stuff and for saying such kind things about us here. There's a saying in Tahoe which is "The West Shore is the Best Shore" and you've outlined exactly why! You are always welcome here with us. See you soon ; - )

We had such a lovely time staying in the Hunters Hideaway for three nights whilst we skied Squaw and Alpine Meadows. Not a bad word to say about the whole experience; from the wonderful breakfast (so much variety and so filling, perfect for a day’s skiing), the quirky rooms, the views from the private beach, and best of all the apres ski wine and nibbles on an evening, (by far the best mulled wine I’ve ever drunk) and all topped off with wonderful hosts. 100% recommend and will absolutely be back!

The Cottage Inn is magical! A few steps from Lake Tahoe, this cluster of sweet cottages on beautiful grounds has to be one the best places to stay in the region. Rooms are spacious, charming, and quiet. The breakfasts are delicious, different each day, and so much better than standard fare at places that offer breakfast..
Some cottages offer partial lake views. Lots of big trees on this lovely property.
