First, I want to mention that two weeks before, we stayed at a 5 star resort in Cabo. It was so disappointing! Our stay at Sunnyside was a refreshing change.
We had 3 rooms for several nights. Our stay and the service we received was beyond expectation. The lodge had the homey, Tahoe cabin feel that we were looking for. The lake view from our room was incredible! The bath amenities were very good, and I’m very picky about those! The room was clean and spacious enough for our needs. One of our family group brought their furry friend. The pet friendly rooms have a porch which opens to a lovely lawn and garden area. Don’t go out too early, one of the Tahoe bears may be strolling by!
The restaurant had the best lakeside location in the Tahoe City area! The food was great, meat was cooked to requested temperature, the coconut calamari and wings were had several times during our stay because they were that good! The fish was fresh and flavorful, while the prime rib was cooked perfectly! And the drinks were perfection.
While all the staff were terrific, I have to mention John at reception as a star! He was always available, juggling several requests at once, and always kept his smile.

Our family of 5 (2 adults, 2 teens, 1 kid) enjoyed a lovely dinner at Sunnyside Restaurant in August. The entire experience from making a reservation to paying the bill was really wonderful, especially in this Covid-19 world. I was able to make an outdoor dinner reservation over the phone with the help of a very polite staff member. On the day of our reservation, we were promptly seated by a very friendly hostess, and were pleased to see strict Covid-19 protocols in place (i.e. sanitizer, masks, socially distanced tables). Our waiter was friendly and attentive. The food was very good and reasonably priced. My husband and I each had a Mai Tai and grilled chicken sandwich. Our children had the fish tacos (with avocado), and the Kid's Menu burger. All entrees were delicious. We completed our meal with the must-have Hula Pie! Overall wonderful experience! The only thing missing for us was a frozen drink menu! I highly recommend Sunnyside!

I want to give this place 4.5 stars as it was such a lovely stay! Enjoyed the coziness of a cabin-like feel, a nice room with high ceilings, updated bathroom, nice size balcony and lovely bathroom amenities. The lobby was great too for hanging out by the fireplace or snapping pics outside of Lake Tahoe. Breakfast was included in our stay which was a to-go meal where you selected from different options each day. It's in a great location where you're not close to much but can get to things fairly quickly. 5 stars for Don the owner, who was so hospitable and displayed excellent customer service each time I interacted with him. If they could have robes for each room and the bar open a little later that would be ideal, but since it's not peak season I get it. Great views of Lake Tahoe, I definitely will stay here again next summer!

My partner and I stayed at Sunnyside Lodge for a single night in July. The staff was great, and the location of the lodge is outstanding as it sits on the lake and its' bar and restaurant offer a wonderful outdoor dining experience. However, we found that the owners are more focused on the bar and restaurant than the lodge itself. Although our room was clean, we found that the common areas were not so well maintained, and there were always a lot of non-lodge guests milling around the lodge entrances waiting for a table at the bar or restaurant. During the current COVID-19 pandemic, we felt management could have done more to protect their hotel guests from their restaurant & bar patrons.

More importantly, we were extremely disappointed with our room. The temperature of it was unbearable! When we checked in it was in the high 80's, so we turned on the portable a/c unit and opened the slider (as we had a lakeside view) which helped. However, when we returned from dinner at close to midnight the room temperature was still in the mid 80's so we had to choose from either listening to the portable a/c unit all night, or listen to the exhaust fan (as well as the trucks, cars, etc. loading/unloading boats on the landing our room looked onto) from the kitchen below us. We called the front desk and were told that opening the windows works best. So we did, and were kept awake most of the night with the noise from the highway, the dock, and the exhaust fan. And finally, in the morning we realized that there was an exhaust vent from whatever was below our room blowing hot air onto our balcony just a foot from the slider we had open all night.

At close to $400 a night, we expected more.

Although this comfy, rustic Lodge could use some serious TLC, it provides comfort where it counts. Hubby and I are seniors and booked an overnight stay in a King suite with a lake view. The room had a nice sleeper sofa, a heavenly comfy king bed, a Jack & Jill bathroom, two separate vanities with modern counters and sinks, two separate closets, a wet bar and mini fridge, a very deep balcony, two flat screen t.v’s, extra pillows and bedding and a complimentary breakfast. Some rooms offer fireplaces. Ours did not. We were fine with that. It’s very clean and the staff are helpful and polite. It is not handicapped accessible however, as there are no elevators and lots of steep stairs. We didn’t dine at their restaurant but if the aroma is any indicator, the food is wonderful. This place is very nice but in desperate need of new hallway carpets, attention to room doors (nicked, scratched, peeling varnish), baseboards and moldings. Nevertheless, we’ll be back.

We have enjoyed Sunnyside for many years and while it has been a few years since we last stayed, we were not disappointed this time. Our absents had nothing to do with the quality of the resort but rather family travel and obligations prevented us from visiting Sunnyside for overnight stays. Given Covid-19, we felt very safe and the entire staff did everything possible to maintain the environment and keep us safe. Food was excellent and of course, it is wonderful to be on Lake Tahoe. Our room was very clean and the staff and management responded to our every need. While room service was suspended for good reason, we were supplied with everything we needed and resupplies as needed. Thank you Don, John, Ali, and Courtney! You are a great team!

Sunnyside is the perfect combination of an old fashioned lodge and modern amenities. The whole atmosphere is homey and the staff is so friendly. The location is amazing and views of the lake are stunning. The food and service in both the restaurant and bar were top notch. We loved the afternoon "tea" in the comfy room overlooking the lake. We loved that there was a fire place in the room and a fire was laid for us each night just waiting to warm us up from a long day of skiing at Squaw. We could not have asked for a better experience!

Food was a bit pricey but very good and we had a table by the window with spectatular view of the lake and looking out at the marina.
Enjoyed fresh fish tacos, sesame salmon rice bowl and pisatachio crusted fresh fish.
Service was friendly and quick as well.

We really needed a getaway after a recent loss. We were looking forward to our lakefront view as shown in the extremely limited property photos. Our small queen suite was exactly that. Small, quirky and not really lakefront. We overlooked a parking lot and small marina and boat rental and were jot directly over the water as pictured online. The room had ridiculous angles and really felt like one room with a diagonal wall divide to make it a suite. The space to walk through to get into the bathroom was only 24” wide between the quirky wall (which I walked into in the dark) and dresser.

We made it work for our four nights. The sofa was comfortable. The bed had a good mattress but too fluffy pillows and slightly rough bedding. I had to use my clothing as a pillow.

The maid service did not check shower soaps and the refrigerator was too small and smelly.

Lastly, the breakfast offered enough when it was stocked, which was not consistent. One of the staff was rude to me about the hot water actually being coffee and did not apologize when it was true. Other staff came by to take food that was behind the counter for themselves, and did not restock food for the guests, leaving empty trays. Afternoon beverages were good, but the smoke from the fireplace below rose up and made it difficult to stay in the area. Something about the cookies was not quite right and after one we avoided them.

Lovely spot, very nice people, good COVID adjustments. We got to watch the full moon rise over the lake at sunset, which was exquisite. The bag breakfasts, which we enjoyed while sitting outside on the restaurant deck, were a great way to start the day.
