We loved this place. We stayed there for 4 days just before Christmas and it was wonderful. Living in the city, we wanted some quiet time in the countryside. We came away rested and restored.

My biggest issue with B&Bs is that we often find the hosts endlessly intrusive. I understand they want to help, but as an introvert, their presence often grates. Jan and Lou, though, were very thoughtful about letting us enjoy the peace and quiet their cottage provides.

It was a delight to have the freshly-made morning meals dropped off for us to deal with at our own pace. The store in Tomales, which is a pleasant walk from the cottage, provided us snacks and lunches. And there are a lot of options for dinner nearby. Our favorite was the Bodega Casino (which is neither a bodega or a casino, but a bar), where in the evenings they have pop-ups with amazing local chefs.

I also really appreciated Jan giving us a tour of their farm and teaching us about the business of it. We were really impressed with their industry and acumen. We'll definitely be back!

Fabulous cottage for a single person or couple looking for a relaxing break. Beautifully designed with everything you need to enjoy a very comfortable stay. The home cooked daily breakfast basket and the local provisions provided in the fridge were a very welcome delicious bonus.
Lots of great nearby hikes if you are feeling adventurous. A truly amazing stay - relaxing by the fire and enjoying their great cider - just wish we had brought more cider back.
Would absolutely recommend if you are looking for a chilled few days away! This cottage is just perfection.

We had no idea.

The photos were tempting. And it all sounded good. My husband and I had been looking for a 5-star property for three days, and thought that this would work for us.

But the reality was way way way way beyond our expectations - - and we couldn't have been more delighted. The cottage itself was more lovely than the photos suggest. It is also sophisticated in design and beautifully and brilliantly conceived and executed. Of course, it was immaculate. And extraordinarily comfortable. And everything was useful and understated and in good taste. And, every day, we discovered something new about it (its features, its construction, its amenities) that blew us away. I don't want to spoil the surprises - anyone staying here will fall in love with the space and the wonderful details and the design and the technology. And I hope they/you too enjoy the surprises!

What's more, Jan surprised us (baskets were left outside our door each morning) with creative, wholesome, organic (!), delicious delicacies - - different every day, and often pre-prepared in a way that allowed us to feel as if we were the cooks. Genius. Really. And such fun. Each day was a new surprise.

And somehow Jan managed to pull this off while protecting our privacy and space. She was always available (and incredibly helpful) when we needed her, but she never interfered or made us feel anything but welcome and comfortable and free.

A truly extraordinary experience. Impeccable management; fantastic food; a clever and beautiful cottage. Comfortable king-size bed; a dark room when we wanted to sleep late. A top-notch, dazzling experience. Jan is a rare and amazing person and host.

Mmmm...just finished a yummy breakfast in this beautiful cottage and couldn't wait to write a review. Spending Memorial Day weekend here in celebration of our 25th wedding anniversary. This cottage is so charming and well built that it really stands out from the pack. Set on the property of Apple Gardens orchard, the proprietors make yummy hard cider from their apple trees, and grace the breakfast with homemade applesauce and delicious eggs from their own hens. The cottage is well appointed and extremely comfortable. The kitchen is well stocked- we feel like we could move in and just live here. There was a nottle of hard cider for us in the fridge and locak cheese and crackers left out for us upon arrival. Unlike many places we've rented over the years, this place is stocked so that you really don't have to buy anything but the main ingredients- the cabinets and frig have all the condiments and trimmings and the cooking utensils and pots and gadets are plentiful.Everyting is organic and thought through with sustainability in mind- for those of you who care (like me). Outside there are beautiful views of the hills of the town of Tomales- s little noise from cars going by, but nothing really disturbing. It's close enough to Marshall that we drove to Nick's Cover for dinner in about 10 minutes last night. We are looking forward to hiking and kayaking today in Pt Reyes today and tomorrow. This place provides privacy, a friendly host who makes a big effort to create a farm to table breakfast and clean luxurious accomodations, in a lovely setting. If you are person who cares about aesthetics, this place will tick all the boxes as far as the interior space goes. It could have more of a terrace or gardens, but it's not bad. Amazing value for the price. It's about 20 mnutes from Pt. Reyes, so if you need to be close to town, this place is not for you.

A wonderful, magical place to stay for a weekend (or longer!). Walking into a warm, cozy cottage on a cold night was a treat, as was the complementary apple cider from the orchard. Wandering the orchard the next day, picking an apple or two, and saying hello to Jan, her husband, and their pup, was wonderful. An intimate, joyful getaway location.

I have nothing but positives to say about this charming cottage. It is lovely and so well appointed. The host Jan is gracious and accommodating and she makes scrumptious breakfasts. There is lots to do in the area, i.e. visit the beaches of Sonoma coast, take in the beauty of pt Reyes, hike ... to name a few. But, honestly, I could have been quite content to just sit in the cottage and enjoy the quiet beauty around me. Next time.

My husband and I fell in love with the Applegarden Cottage. It is located in a much wilder, lusher part of the Point Reyes Area; with singing birds and choruses of frogs at night. It was fun and exciting to have a tour of the apple orchard including visits from several charming chickens! The cottage itself is beautiful, restful, cozy, quiet and comfortable. Jan's special touches are beyond anything we have ever experienced in all our years of traveling. Wonderful cheese paired with the perfect cracker; fresh yogurt, butter, half and half and eggs in the fridge, and marvelous breakfasts including melt in your mouth scones and a luscious breakfast pudding. Even my favorite tea was waiting for me without my having to tell her!!(rooibos chai). Oh and the crunchy homemade granola! It is the perfect retreat for serenity and also access to wonderful Point Reyes Station with it's artisinal everything: yarn, baked goods, great sandwiches at the Cowgirl Creamery, a great indie bookstore, etc. and beautiful wildflower-y drives to Mt. Vision, Chimney Rock and Bear Valley. Jan is the perfect hostess - warm and helpful but not intrusive. We are coming back in the fall for the bird migration and hopefully some apple scones!!

jan welcomed us to her country cottage! it is very well kept and surrounded by wild flowers. so so peaceful and just the break we needed from city living. i noticed that there wasn't any conditioner in the toiletries they provide and jan promptly brought me some and left it in the cottage while we were at dinner, which was nice since there didn't seem to be any stores close by.

i have to say my favorite part of the entire experience was the fresh breakfast in a basket on our doorstep each morning. one morning we had scones, strawberries, fresh eggs (from their farm)...the next we had waffles, grapefruit/oranges, and bacon... seriously so good. the scones were amazing!! as noted in another review... you do cook the eggs/waffles yourself, but it was fun!

only thing i could say as far as improvement wise is that we chose it because my husband loves hard apple cider and they only give you open bottle upon check in. there are two of us, so two bottles would have been nice. not that we are big drinkers or anything, but we first found it because we thought it was cool that they made their own cider.

hopefully we will be back in the future! a true gem. highly recommend it!!! oh and there is only 1 cottage so it's just the main house (jan's house) and the rental cottage on the property which means it is very peaceful!!!

It's a great place to stay. The cottage is well decorated, clean and cozy. Jan is a great host. As we arrived, she welcomed us with a afternoon snack and introduced her place for us. Breakfast is yummy, healthy and different every day, including homemade granola, fresh strawberry & eggs from her farm and waffle. We had great time staying at the cottage.

To say that the AppleGarden Cottage is a relaxing refuge is an understatement. As soon as you arrive in the cottage you are greeted with soothing classical music, goat cheese and crackers for snacking and a bottle of delicious cold AppleGarden hard cider in the fridge. Homemade cookies and granola are also available in the kitchen. Yogurt, creamery butter and half and half along with eggs from the chickens on the property add to the special care taken to make you feel at home. I forgot to mention the homemade bread and jams, really fantastic.

Jan is an excellent Innkeeper, providing all the amenities that you need to make your stay perfect. From the little touches, like the stocked fridge and delicious bread and jams to the heated floor in the bathroom and heat lamp in the shower. Jan has a great decorating eye, we felt like we stepped into a Sunset Magazine photo shoot, very "craftsman/country" feel to the cottage as well as decor in general. Jan provides breakfast and she is an excellent cook, waffles, scones, fresh fruit, just wonderful!!!

What to do in the area? Relax number one and enjoy your time in the country. Sightseeing, kayaking, hiking, shopping in the small stores in the local towns of Point Reyes Station, Tomales, and Bodega Bay not to mention some great antique stores in Petaluma can round out your weekend.
I would HIGHLY recommend and terrific company called Point Reyes Safaris, run by wildlife photographer Dan Dietrich. We took one of his tours and it was fantastic. I consider it a bargain, and Dan was a terrific guide, well worth checking out.

We cannot wait to return and really would not want to stay anywhere else.
