Hotel's Favourite
What a great hotel. Great service and staff. We were three hours early for our check- in, so our room (108) wasn’t ready yet, but they did everything to get it ready for us. We had a great lunch at the New York Deli just beside the hotel and an hour later we could get to our room. The room was nice and clean and the virtual concierge Ivy arranged a corkscrew for our wine. The 3Ten Liquor store is just half a block from the hotel. We had an awesome stay before we went on our cruise. Highly recommend this hotel.

We had to travel to Torrence on a family emergency and this was one of only a few hotels in the area with vacancy. Based on the reviews this was our choice for a 1 week stay. We were NOT dissappointed! The facility is newly remodled and beautiful. More important is the wonderfull friendly staff who greet you and continue to greet you throughout your stay to be sure you are taken care of. A big shout out to Josna, Lauren and Jose, just 3 of the staff we interacted with and were always making sure we were comfortable and what could be done to make our stay better. The complimentary breakfast was the best we have had and was consistient throughout the whole week! Fresh coffee, tea and ice water was always available in the lobby. The location is perfect, close to a large mall area with any resturant you could want and close access to freeways. We booked our next stay before we left as we have to return to this are again in 2 weeks for family issues!

I had to travel to Torrance for several weeks on business, and Bluestem Hotel quickly became a home away from home for me. The staff made me feel so welcome each week, and the service from Lauren and Josna particularly made my stay exceptional. They were both so genuine and welcoming, and handled any situation that came their way with ease. They went above and beyond to make me feel welcome and comfortable there. I can't say enough about their professionalism and kindness.
The rooms at Bluestem are so comfortable, clean, and have a modern decor that instantly made me feel at home. The bathroom was by far one of the cleanest and most up to date of any hotel I have stayed at. The toiletries provided were beyond what I expected, and I really appreciated the scent and quality of the lotion/shampoo/shower gels, as well as the quality of the towels provided.
The patio and breakfast area was so inviting and had plenty of comfortable seating, a fire pit, and beautiful decor & foliage. The complimentary breakfast each morning was delicious and included a wide variety of fruit, eggs, yogurt, bagels, cereal, muffins, coffee, tea, and more.
The entire atmosphere of Bluestem is such a relaxing retreat, and I instantly knew it would be my hotel of choice for the weeks I had to travel there.
Thank you Bluestem staff for making my stays so comfortable and making me feel so welcome! I will always choose Bluestem any time I am back in Torrance.

This “boutique” property is now managed by Choice Hotels as part of the Ascend Collection, a new division created to restore older locations and convert them to intimate and uniquely designed locations. This particular hotel has an Asian theme that runs throughout, including an open air lobby and spacious courtyard, perfect for relaxing couples or small business gatherings. They are currently not serving food due to COVID protocols, but guests are welcome to bring in their own cuisine and dine outside, with an ample amount of restaurants throughout the Torrance area. A “virtual concierge” checks on your status on a daily basis and housekeeping can be assigned to be daily or at whatever frequency you desire. Private, gated parking is a definite attraction that comes at no charge. The staff is extremely accommodating and all of the rooms contain numerous amenities, including mini-fridges.

Room is small but comfortable with all that you need. Nice and modern. Room does have a muggy smell and humid feel when you first walk in. Free parking. No complimentary breakfast because of covid (they should at least off a pack and go like other choice hotels I recently visited) and housekeeping is optional. Over $200 plus for this tiny room is a bit much but maybe it was the Friday before labor day weekend. You can hear the train and the walls are thin but the air conditioner muffles alot of noise out. Usable refrigerator in room and a Keurig coffee machine in room also. Coming back again is up in the air.

However, we are genuinely sorry and confused about your comment regarding ‘You can hear the train’. There are no railway lines near our hotel. We would be happy to discuss your experience in more detail if you would be open to contacting the hotel general manager as we are committed to ensuring your next stay is satisfying. We chose this motel because it was near the World Cruise Terminal and had good reviews. We'd been on the road nearly 6 hours when we arrived. The motel lobby area was very upscale and the desk clerk was very nice, even giving us a complimentary drink from the freezer. We were given our keys and then told to access the parking lot through the security gate by using our key card. We tried several times, but the gate wouldn't open. I had to return to the front desk. The clerk apologized, issued new cards and returned to the gate with me to make sure it worked this time. It did. We were impressed with the room. It was very clean and modern and had lots of pillows. We walked to the nearby Wendy's for dinner. We were exhausted from the day's drive and turned in about 9PM. At 10PM, a family must have arrived and were put in the room directly above us. For two straight hours a child ran from one end of the room to the other. I tried earplugs as well as pillows over my head, but it was no help as the room was vibrating from the thumping. Finally at 11PM the pounding stopped, but then resumed a half hour later and lasted another 30 minutes. I was so stressed out and didn't get to sleep until well after midnight. To top things off, the bed was too firm and I woke up with a bad backache. Not a good way to start a cruise day. While some things were very nice, because of our experience, we would probably not stay here again. I'm sorry that I used 30,000 Wyndham points when I could have used 20,000 points for several other motels. Sadly, the ultimate experience did not justify the extra expense.

This is a newly renovated motel with some nice touches that you wouldn't find at some similarly priced properties. Lobby area is nice but on the small side for the capacity of the motel (breakfast room was small and led to some awkward maneuvering). ***the following words are solely my opinion, and based on first hand experience of my visit*** First miss for me was the over the top use of room freshener that lingered and never dissipated (some sort of aromatherapy scent that did not have the intended effect and almost drove me from the room). The room itself was well appointed, nice linens, nice bathroom (beware no tub, shower only) and decent storage. The beds were extremely firm and left me with a wicked upper back ache after only four hours. Not that I could sleep much with the car alarms going off sporadically from 2 to 5 a.m. At one point I looked out the peephole at around 3:30 a.m. and saw figures running through the parking lot towards a running vehicle which then sped off (very odd and probably what was making the alarms go off). I also do not know how or why but the door jamb had a large vertical crack extending 4-5 inches above and below the door lock strike plate. This is caused when a door is kicked in which explained why the security latch was held on with double sided tape and the screws were stripped out. The door itself was warped and would not shut properly and you could see a 1/4" gap on the lower 3rd of the door. For this and many other reasons we decided to check out the next morning and move to a hotel closer to the north side of LA and closer to the attractions. I booked through Expedia and was able to cancel the third day of our reservation but forfeited the 2nd night due to "hotel policy". They were very rigid in their stance so I left without giving them the rest of my feedback that I am detailing here. It will make me think twice before booking again through Expedia or with the Choice Hotel group (of which BlueStem is a member).

Dear Steve, Thank you for your staying with us. We regret your disappointment due to all the issues you raised. Although we are passionate and proud of our new Bluestem Boutique Hotel which grand opening date was May 9th, 2019, listening to the voices of our guests takes priority over everything we do. We are pleased to share with you that the installation of the Bluestem Hotel’s entry gate to the parking lot is completed and now functioning. The occurrence with your prepaid reservation through Expedia is regretful. The reservation we received from Expedia for you was for arrival date 12/27 – departure 12/29/2019 (2 nights, not 3 nights). You departed early on 12/28/2019. Although the reservation was non-cancellable and non-refundable, we did not charge for the second night but credited the second night to the Expedia account upon your departure. Expedia did inform us that they applied the refund to your original form of payment. Please do confirm with Expedia about the hotel’s refund date and the credit to your account. We hope to serve you again. Sincerely, Josna Aime

We had never been to LA before and were quite worried if our hotel would be as we expected or it would be noisy or run down or not as described, but wow this is a little gem it was very clean modern well maintained and the staff were lovely and friendly. Breakfast was great with your normal breakfast foods like cereals bread items and sausages eggs and bacon and even fruit and yogurts plus all the coffee tea and water available all day free. Rooms were well kept and beds made everyday which was so nice to come back to, car parking and breakfast were included. All in all had a fantastic time here and definitely would be looking to book again.

Josna, a personable and professional manager there accommodated me in the highest fashion despite arriving early. I didn't realize check-in wasn't until a couple hours later, but had a schedule to follow. She was able to hold my bags safely and had my room prepared in time to meet my appointment. Thank you, Josna!
The lobby is exposed to the patio where between the receptionist and where you make your walk in you'll find warm colored and textured patio furniture, a modest fountain, chic indoor furniture and modern decorative accents. It feels both posh and accessible for all people to enjoy. The lobby and patio doubles as the breakfast area which feel very communal - a very appropriate feeling for how welcome the staff encourages you to feel there.
I was on a strict training diet during my stay and to my excitement, I was surprised to find egg whites as an option for breakfast!
The one issue I had was that the shower water took a while to heat up.
I would stay here all. the. time! I used to live in Torrance, so it was strange staying in a hotel, but it felt like home. Thank you all!

Service - The people who work here were wonderful. They were always helpful pleasant, happy and welcoming.
I had the room with a balcony and I stayed four nights. This room was very close the road so once in a while I heard emergency vehicles (twice). Or motorcycles or muscle cars. For the most part it was quiet. I enjoyed reading a book on the large balcony.
I tend to judge a room on the bathroom. Is it better or as nice as I have at home? The answer was yes so I was very happy. It was larger than normal with a big shower and no tub. Little touches like toilet paper flowers on the roll. (towel swans on the bed)
There was always coffee and tea available in the lobby. There is food available to purchase in the lobby as well.
The hotel is associated with a restaurant 1/2 a block away and it delivered food at no extra charge.
The courtyard was nice and never too crowded. Nicely decorated too.
The bed was a little hard but a lot of people like that and that is better than too soft. The sheets were a nice quality.
Pillows were all the same and I kind of like variety so I can decide which one is for my head and which is to cuddle.
Toilet paper breaks up too easily and I would prefer a better quality.
Would I stay here again? Absolutely! It was attractively decorated and the people who worked there really made my stay feel welcoming and happy.
