Enchanting, supremely comfortable, intensely atmospheric, excellent service and superb restaurant. We cycled the Ecopista do Dão from Santa Comba to Tondela and then drove up here as the highlight to our weekend. The next day we skirted the Serra, visited Belmonte, Portas do Dão and back to LIsbon. We highly recommend Povoa Dão, the whole family was delighted and we... More

Incredible place, and a complete surprise. Very charming village settled on the slope of a river valley. It was very quiet and the only thing that could be heard was the sound of the river below and numerous streams around the village. We spent hours wandering through the village photographing the different structures and wandering on the hiking trails to... More

It´s a beautiful little village, rebuilt, and you feel like you are part of it. The houses are really charming, and you don't need to get out of there. The restaurant is so good, both food and wine, that we didn't even think about eating elsewhere. Everyone is really kind and the service is simple and unpretentious. And then there's... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Póvoa Dão is one of the oldest villages on register in the community of Silgueiros in the district council of Viseu, with its existence referred to for as far back of Alfonsine inquests prior to 1258.In 1995 Póvoa Dão Inc. purchased this Beira provincial village, seemingly condemned to abandonment, with the idea of returning to it old habits and customs, bringing it alive as a place to visit and live in.Today, after a rigorous recuperation process, the ruins have been replaced by a true refuge that offers a different way of life far from the bustle of cities and closer to authentic Portugal.Póvoa Dão is pioneer in village tourism, offering peaceful enjoyment of Portugal at its profoundest. It is a place for refreshing body and spirit in the most natural way in the world. The houses are available for rent to visitors, affording comfort and relaxation, opening a window to ancient memories. ... more   less
