#4 of 24 hotels in West Hollywood
Travellers' Choice
Fashioned after a private pied-a-terre, Petit Ermitage offers guests an intimate sanctuary in which to take refuge from the bustling city of Los Angeles. Nestled on a quiet street in West Hollywood, but located just steps from the Sunset Strip, Petit features an extensive art collection, eclectic European antiques, custom-crafted mattresses, 618 thread count sheets, in-room fireplaces, balconies and hand-woven Turkish carpets. The Private Rooftop - replete with native gardens, a salt water pool, cabanas, an outdoor sunken fireplace and 360 degree views of the Hollywood Hills - is considered one of the premiere dining spaces in LA.

I love the whimsical decor, the comfortable, spacious room, the irreverent Euro vibes, and especially the magical rooftop restaurant. The food was always exceptional, but this trip the avocado toast was soggy and the eggs too full of vinegar (yes I know it's the traditional method for poaching). They were understaffed so it's hard to get the waiter's attention, and they have some sort of false-intimacy policy of calling everyone dearie, sweetheart, lovelies a million times each time they address you--charming at first, but ultimately ridiculous. Pool is filled with young adults competing to prove how sexy they are. Tiring. It's also super crowded, which doesn't feel super COVID safe. Oh well.

From the moment you walk into Petit Ermitage, you know you're in a special place. From the lobby to the rooms, not a single detail has been overlooked. The rooms are spacious and cleaning is consistently excellent. The rooftop has a great bar and fantastic view of the LA area. Petit is a private hotel assuring you will have access to all the amenities and not be cramped on the pool deck. Crazy thing is those are not even the best part of the hotel. What makes Petit great is the people! From the moment you check in till you order your drinks, it's first class all the way! And, if you are lucky enough to run into Troy Berry, know there's nothing he cannot help with. From your basic needs to special requests, this guy makes it happen! We just got back and I'm ready to book my next stay.

Steve, thank you for pointing out our “Best Kept Secret” status. We must admit that this irks us a little, as over the years we have spent many shekels on carrier pigeons, elf mail, GPS (Gnome Positioning System) and bat signals. We appreciate your honesty and we would like to offer Troy Berry as your personal slave, to be redeemed upon your next stay.

Where to start with this little gem tucked discreetly behind the vines in West Hollywood? Everywhere you look there are little touches that might escape notice at first glance. The front desk is welcoming, knowledgeable and so helpful. They had no problem, with phones ringing, answering questions and making sure I knew where I was headed. Rooms, gorgeous, just gorgeous, with every amenity one could imagine. There is a seating area, fireplace and table in the living area. The bed is comfortable and the pillows, thank you lort, are wonderful. The rooftop pool provides a breathtaking view of the surrounding area. The lovely Elise, hostess and pool coordinator extraordinaire was so kind. My phone was dead from a long flight and I could not scan the QR code. She got her IPad and let me look at the menu and had suggestions for dinner. I saw her off and on during my stay and knowing I was a solo traveler, made sure I was well taken care of. I can not wait to go back!

Thank you for your FABulous review Lorrie. Little Gem is our favorite type of lettuce! Let us know when you next return and we can sit down for a catch up over a nice wedge salad with Elise xo

This boutique hotel is cute and could be considered a hidden gem, however, there seems to be a guest hierarchy happening behind the scenes. It's difficult to get the front desk on the phone, the pool is overcrowded, and you need a reservation to get a lounge chair, poolside table, or cabana but the staff do not inform you. It's as if guests are expected to know the house rules.

Hello Q5771 and thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience. Please note that as a private hotel and as one that prides itself on adhering to all Covid 19 prevention required by law, it is necessary for guests to make reservations poolside and at cabanas. These house rules for guest safety are clearly visible on our website and our room confirmations. Have a great rest of your summer and thank you for staying with us.
