We stayed a single night in the Forequarter room. The view was as gorgeous as we expected, and the room is actually a bit larger than some photos suggest. Also, George is an accomplished carpenter, so custom built-ins (a closet, tv shelves, and night stands) make the space incredibly functional. The bath is large and comfortable, and there is even a small private balcony. Everything is impeccably maintained. Breakfast was outstanding! Homemade french toast with real maple syrup and homemade jam, fresh-picked blueberries and yogurt, and plenty of hot, fresh coffee and interesting conversation got the day off to a great start. The location is ideal for visiting Peggy's Cove either before or after the tour buses are there, but the real charm of Anchor's Gate is the warmth of the hosts. Nancy and George put us at ease from the moment we arrived, and they offered great suggestions for local restaurants and activities (including the local museum). We'll definitely return the next time we're in Nova Scotia.…
We had the room with the beautiful view of the water and it was very nice. Breakfast was good (eggs, meat, etc.). The homemade jam was AWESOME. This was a great location to visit Peggy's Cove and Prospect.
We often visit Nova Scotia for its Atlantic Canada relaxed atmosphere, honest beauty, friendly folks, food (lobster) and ocean adventures. Anchors Gate, owned and operated by Nancy and George, is almost always our first stop. George is a ship building Newfoundlander with a barn shop worthy of his fine craftsmanship. The entire B&B reflects his efforts toward quality Atlantic Canadian design. Nancy's master gardening and hospitality is both graciousness and not to be missed. Stay for a day or several weeks as we have - you will definitely enjoy these peaceful surroundings.
Nancy & George are excellent hosts, in a perfectly situated location just 20 minutes outside of Halifax and near the incredible granite outcrop in Peggy's Cove. Clean, comfortable rooms, delicious breakfast, fun & interesting conversations, great information about things to see, places to go, and directions on how best to get there.
Stayed two nights with George and Nancy Pike in their B&B. They were wonderful hosts and provided us with tips for the area and dining. Comfortable room and good breakfast! We learned a lot about par Canada from George!!
