Detailed Reviews
We stayed here mid-March, right as directives were coming down nearly every day to deal with the Covid issue. Firstly check in was efficient, and we were upgraded to a corner room that had a kitchen, and separate living and sleeping areas. The room was clean. I wish the bathroom had a tub, it's nice to soak after a day of skiing but the shower worked well and had good water pressure. The breakfast was adequate. It turned from a buffet type breakfast to more of a you tell the staff what you want and they bring it to you type to cut down on people all touching the same utensils. And then the governor of CO closed all the ski resorts and we decided to leave a day early. Element refunded us for the one night we wouldn't be staying, no questions asked. Also want to mention there is a Whole Foods supermarket in very short walking distance as are several restaurants. Overall, I think the hotel was great, and dealt with the Covid issues thrown at all of us the best they could. I'd happily stay here again.

While on our summer family vacation, we had to cancel a multi night stay in Keystone so we headed to Aspen to check things out. My wife called Marriot/Bonvoy customer reservations and they recommended the Element in Balast. It was about a 20 mile drive from Aspen, but what a nice little town!
This hotel is newer and LEED certified as a green built hotel by the US green building council. Not only does the hotel have nice amenities (although quite a few were closed due to COVID-19), the property is in a new town center development with lots of walkable streets, adjacent Whole Foods, and other retail.
The rooms in the Element have full kitchens, and outdoor BBQ grilles, and decent grab and go breakfast options.
Would definitely recommend this hotel and plan a stay here next time we come to the area. Could tell the owners/management were on top of the property and wanted to keep the guests happy.

I have stayed at this property monthly for some time now and I would highly recommend this hotel. The staff is amazing, the rooms are spacious and comfortable and the location is perfection. You can walk out your door and grab groceries at Whole Foods or sit down at a handful of awesome restaurants. The convenience of Aspen is a 20-minute drive on your car or even better the local bus it literally out the front door and is a great option too. I have never been disappointed with my stay and consider it my second home. If you want to enjoy the Aspen area this is the spot for those who can't justify Aspen prices.

If you’re staying here for a day or two, maybe it’s a decent hotel. We stayed for five nights in a corner suite, just wanting to get up to the mountains for a long weekend—boy, was this a disappointment. My husband, who travels so much for work he has Platinum Elite status with Marriott, called it the worst Marriott property he’s stayed in in years, if ever. Here were the issues we faced:
1. Housekeeping: Because of COVID-19, naturally and wisely Marriott wants to limit their staff in rooms. We were told on check-in that part of their revised policy was housekeeping only every three days. Sure, fine, no biggie! But day 3 came and no housekeeping... then, day 4 came, and still no housekeeping. I went down to the lobby to ask about it and to get fresh towels, and only then did I notice that sometime since we had checked in, the hotel changed their housekeeping policy. The staff had added a notice in small print at the front desk that said you now had to request housekeeping service before 10 a.m. the day you wanted it. But no existing visitor can see that unless they’re standing right at the front desk.
2. Cleanliness: We appreciated the mask requirement and signage about social distancing. However, there were other ways where we noticed the cleanliness to be lacking — which would be worrisome under normal circumstances but which takes on new meaning during a pandemic. For one, when I had gotten those fresh towels, we noticed the following morning that almost all of them were dirty — or at least had stains on them that made them appear unclean. Gross!! My husband had to use the single clean hand towel that was left to dry off. Additionally, when we had dropped a cell phone between the wall and the couch, I reached down to grab it only to pick up some former guest’s forgotten toy. Under normal circumstances, no biggie; during a pandemic when Marriott claims these rooms are scrubbed thoroughly, it’s worrisome.
3. Customer service: Many of the staff was dismissive and didn’t really acknowledge our comings and going as one might expect. Just a friendly “hi, have a good day” or “hi, welcome back.” Only one staff member took the time to do that. Further, the staff member who checked us in wasn’t friendly or welcoming, while others around us got better service. No welcome gift or anything for my husband’s longtime loyalty.
4. I don’t think they can change any of this now, but the construction of the hotel itself seems rushed and a bit sloppy. This is a newer hotel, but the blinds in our room were broken and stuck. The walls are paper thin; we could hear our neighbor’s TV and the guest upstairs sounded like he was stomping around every night. And when you look closer at the finishes, they were installed kind of sloppy and our bathroom sink was perpetually slow to drain and the dishwasher was full of hard water stains: Again, gross.
All these things culminating together just made for a really disappointing stay...

Dear MrsKMC25, First of all, thank you for submitting your review on TripAdvisor. We certainly appreciate all feedback so that we address any shortcomings with our staff. Secondly, please accept our sincerest apologies for failing to meet your expectations. We have discussed your concerns in detail with both our housekeeping and front desk staff. Cleanliness and customer service are our 2 most important priorities and I am extremely disappointed that we did not take care of your needs appropriately. We are now programming our housekeeping schedule in our computer system so that we can be sure rooms are serviced every 3 days. Please be aware that when you are requesting a mobile key and check in through the Bonvoy app, you automatically receive points for your welcome gift. This is not to say that you should not have been properly greeted and treated like one of our valued loyal guests! We are currently assessing which rooms require new blinds as well as going through to detail each room. Again, please accept our apologies and know that we value your input. We are working hard to correct these issues to ensure that our service meets and exceeds expectations. Have a safe, healthy, and happy remainder of your summer. Sincerely, Vicky Bogner Assistant General Manager

My wife and I decided to take in 4 nights over Christmas. While it is a Bonvoy property, in my opinion it does not live up to the Marriott brand. This is a Westin property (owned by Marriott) and as a lifetime titanium member I guess I just expect a little better than what we had. First, the kitchen in the suite (unlike Marriott Residence Inn) does not include an oven. It has a small 2 burner cook top and a microwave. Yes, a full size fridge and dishwasher is included as well. There is also only a small counter top to eat at for 2 people. When we checked in, we discovered that there was only 1 small bowl among the dishes, and a pasta pot and small saucepan for cooking. No frying pan. I went to the front desk and asked for another bowl and frying pan, which were eventually brought up. The inside of the dishwasher was absolutely nasty (pictures provided). The room (king studio) was smaller than I like, and the traffic noise from our side of the building along the highway was brutal at times. We also had heavy foot walking noise from the room above us at all hours. The building does not appear to be well insulated between floors. Breakfast was included and consisted of cold cereal, juice, fruit, milk, and an attendant that would toast bagels or English muffins. They also had the standard pre-made and frozen eggs, sausage and omelette. We opted to go next door to get some groceries at the Natural Foods and make our own. The location is great, next to a brew pub, Natural Foods, and a few restaurants. While it was an acceptable stay, we won’t be back. The value for what we got just wasn’t there. We will stick with the Marriott properties.

Dear Pete R, I am sorry to hear that your stay with us did not meet your expectations. Just an FYI- neither the Element Brand nor The Residence Inn have ovens in the rooms for liability reasons. Both brands list the appliances on the web-site room descriptions. I do apologize for the dishwasher stains- we have hard water which we battle with vinegar on a regular basis, but sometimes the hard water stains still build up. Thank you for your honest feedback. It is a valuable tool for us to use to improve our services. If you do choose to visit us again, please contact me directly so that I can ensure you are in a room not facing the highway and provide a complimentary upgrade if one is available. Sincerely, Vicky B

An unwelcoming property with a noisy room overlooking the highway- foam earplugs on the nightstand should have been a sign of trouble. Very loud old fridge in the room. Frankly, the exterior looks awesome but the inside, not so much. Green algae in the pool. Location in Basalt is good and nice to walk to restaurants, etc... A decent use of Marriott points but published rates would have made this way too expensive for the value received- is it because it's near Aspen? Breakfast was ok, with some choices. However, I don't understand how hotels can get away with cooking eggs over a hotplate with no ventilation- making the entire breakfast room smoky. I would stay elsewhere if possible.

What a fabulous stay, and the service was fantastic! The staff at the Element in Basalt were all incredibly helpful and accommodating and the manager Joe was absolutely superb. We loved the room! They were quite spacious, and included a full size refrigerator with freezer, microwave, and stovetop. Travelling with kids, I like to be able to cook a few of my own meals.
The hotel breakfast options were plentiful, and the kids ate well every morning. The pool was a favorite, it stayed plenty warm, and being a salt water pool it didn't irritate the eyes like chlorine does. You do need a reservation, but we were able to swim longer during the day when it's less busy. The hot tub has wonderful views of the mountains and was also quite relaxing.
The town is friendly, all within walking distance, and across the street from the hotel is an excellent brewery with delicious food. There is a gorgeous park with playground within walking distance as well.

The front desk staff here is absolutely wonderful! SAGE and CLAIR are front desk SUPERSTARS, and made sure my husband and I felt welcome upon our arrival. They were incredibly helpful, friendly and we loved their enthusiasm. Element Basalt is super clean, bright and open. There is a complimentary breakfast, spotless gym, small office center, pool, and rooms are impeccably clean with large refrigerators, very comfortable beds/pillows, and nice-sized desks for setting up your laptop. Best of all, this hotel is within walking distance of many great restaurants, shops, trails, and even a Whole Foods Market! Hoping to stay at more Element Hotels in the future!!! Highly recommended!

Element was clean, following social distancing rules, had a lot of safe packaged choices for breakfast and large suites. There is a open mall in the same development with at least 12 restaurants with lots of variety and prices from Italian to Sushi. They have two bicycles you can borrow for free. The manager was great and wrote out a map to help us find the way to the river- 1/4 a mile away and route to Aspen. It's an easy, beautiful ride. All the staff was also welcoming and very careful about safety. We'd absolutely stay here next time in the area.

The Element is a pretty basic hotel. They offer all the fundamentals for this type of property. Breakfast, pool, hot tub, and good location. With that said, the location isn't quite Aspen, however Basalt is a nice place in and of itself. We snowboarded at Snowmass during our stay and it's about a 20 min drive from the hotel to the parking lot at Snowmass, any of the Aspen resorts or the town would be about 30 min away.
Near the hotel are some great shops, where you can find anything you might've forgot, plus a Whole Foods, and some good restaurants withing walking distance.
My biggest compliment to the hotel would be there staff. You can tell that they are short on staff but do their best to ensure you don't notice. When we were there the GM was cleaning the pool! Back when I worked in hotels, this was not a site I'd seen. However at the Element they're doing all they can to ensure a pleasant experience for the guest while dealing with staffing issues. Like every other business in Colorado.
My only critique would be that its probably time to update the bedding, and window coverings. But for the price I shouldn't complain to much, any closer to Snowmass or Aspen would be double the price for a similar accommodation or quadruple for something fancy. :)

Yes both the pool and hot tub remain open. The hours of operation are 9 am - 10 pm - with COVID 19 Restrictions still in place, we are requiring guests to make a reservation for the use of the pool / spa no more than 24 hours in advance of the time they would like to use the pool / spa.
