Detailed Reviews
I selected The Junction on price. For my weekend it was the cheapest, right around $100/night. It's not a bad hotel but not great, either. The staff is very nice and helpful, the hotel is clean and it is very well located, right at Main Ave & 22nd Street. Also good if you are inclined to use the Durango bike/walking path that leads into town, running along the Animas River behind the motel. Otherwise, just an average place. Some scars on the bathroom door of my room, some gaps in caulking around tub/shower, A/C worked fine but fan very noisy, in-room refrigerator worked fine, king bed okay at best, furnishings like bedspread and towels below average. Did not use kitchen facilities which are available to all at the motel/hostel. Two notes -- doors are quite noisy when closing, both interior and exterior, and the motel has a policy of cleaning every third day. Didn't bother me at all but might be a problem for others.

It is a cheap motel and if you can book it in advance through booking or something then this isn’t a bad option as long as you aren’t worried about crappy plumbing. I had to move rooms twice because of issues with the plumbing. Joe was very accommodating and helpful but the other person running the front desk (a Hispanic woman I believe named jalice) was extremely rude and charged me double because I was essentially stuck and she could. Joe and the cereal bar were the saving graces of this place but if you don’t mind spending ten extra bucks then one of the other budget accommodations would probably serve you better

We stayed in a Deluxe King Room with the ski package (the ski passes were great). The room was adequate but sparsely furnished and is in need of more electrical outlets. The bathroom lacked a counter or hooks which was rather inconvenient. Also the ice machine was broken and the office was not open as advertised (at about 8pm) so we were unable to get any help. The biggest shortcoming were rowdy guests who were partying loudly as late as 3am.

The Junction Hotel & Hostel is conveniently located near the 8 mile long Animas River Path which is the best way to walk or bike into town. On the way to town, only about ¼ of a mile from the hotel, is the excellent Durango Library.
I stayed here for 2½ weeks. I was going to leave after about 9 days, but I couldn't find anything within the same price range that had a private room and a kitchen. Although I was staying in the hotel, and the kitchen and lounge are primarily for the hostel guests, the staff let me use it since I was staying for a while. They also let me store my bike in the office when it was raining.
As another reviewer pointed out, the rooms are average. The pool is right next to a busy street, so not that appealing. The kitchen has the absolutely cheapest cutlery, pots and pans that money can buy! At one point I counted just 3 spoons, although I was told they had more in reserve. The plates and bowls were mostly plastic, but they did have a couple that were ceramic. I ended up buying a ceramic mug from a thrift store since they only provided paper cups for coffee and tea!
Despite the ill-equipped kitchen, I—along with my fellow guests—managed to prepare and eat our food. The staff was friendly and helpful and I found that they were open to suggestions—paper towels appeared after I mentioned that napkins weren't the ideal way to dry one’s dishes!
So, regardless of the drawbacks, I found the Junction Hotel & Hostel to be a pretty good value considering the upsides!

DO NOT BOOK HERE. I checked in after hours and while I was able to obtain my keys... they didn't work. Not to get in the building, not to get in the room. I was stranded at 11pm in the winter with no way to get help. I had to book a very pricey last minute stay elsewhere, and the next day Motel Durango could not have cared less. I ended up cancelling the rest of my trip because I had spent so much on a last minute room and Motel Durango refused to provide any compensation for this. They ruined my vacation and cost me so much money. I also heard some other guests come in and ask if the laundry or kitchen were available yet... apparently they'd been out of commission for 3 weeks due to a pipe burst. Seriously get it together Motel Durango. There's cheap and then there's dangerous (leaving people stranded) and negligent (not amenities for longer term hostel guests).

We booked a stay here for 9 days at the last minute in August when we
couldn't do our Colorado Trail backpack as planned.
It was a great location close to the rec center and right on the Animas River Trail.
It's also not far from the Colorado Trail Trailhead or downtown.
Our room was not fancy but a good size, not cramped at all.
It was clean and comfortable.
It had a nice big flat screen TV and
frig and microwave both of which were very handy since we were there for over a week.
HD seems to be popular with the CT hikers, etc.
We saw numerous people carrying backpacks to/from their rooms.
They also have a couple dorm rooms with bunk beds for real low budget travelers.
We took a quick look at one of the dorm rooms and it looked great for a dorm room.
It had it's own shared bath for just that room.
Each bed had it's own light and power outlet.
The staff, especially Cole, was extremely helpful.
He let us store our luggage in the office for a few hours till our room was
ready and helped carry it to our room when it was ready.
There is plenty of parking around the whole building.
I didn't use the outdoor pool but it looked nice and clean.
I saw someone cleaning it every day.
I would definitely stay there again.
Keep up the great work.

Room smelt like dog piss. The front office ladies and cleaning ladies was nice, but if you have a motel allow dogs may should have no carpet in the room or shampoo them. It says no dogs allow but was many. The floor was falling in at 3 different places. I would never again

I have no complaints about Motel Durango. I'm always nervous when booking online at small, local motels I've never been to but this place was wonderful! We will be back, hopefully in spring to make use of the BBQ grills they've got in th back! The rooms are nice and clean. The beds were not bad, we got a restful sleep and didn't wake up with any aches (I've got a Purple matress at home that other beds rarely can compete with). There was a good size TV with cable & accommodations to hook up our own video game consoles, wifi to stream movies & games (may want to bring a small extension outlet for this as the outlets were far from the TV). Mini fridge & microwave were clean and worked great. The "riverfront view" was beautiful especially when it snowed in the morning. The heater worked well in the room & there was plenty of hot water for showers. The motel staff were very friendly & accommodating. All other guests were respectful during this time & everyone wore face masks in the common areas/hallways. Overall we had a lovely stay & you can't beat the price!

I went to Durango to visit a friend who was just put in hospice care. I wanted a reasonably priced (not easy to find in Durango during the summer) location that was convenient and a good place to sleep. I got a room in the newer building that was well-furnished and had a good air conditioner. Everything worked and room was clean. A surprise bonus was a swimming pool and continental breakfast--neither of which I was expecting. the best part was the staff. During my two night stay, i must have interacted with close to 10 staff members, and every single one of them was extremely helpful, competent, and friendly. they got right on anything I needed or had a question about. It made for a very pleasant experience during a sad visit to Durango. The Motel Durango, whether you are traveling alone, as a couple, or even a family, should " fill the bill" very nicely for you without the actual "bill" being high. this location is "on the rise", and the staff makes it that way. Bravo to you all!
