The Baymont by Wyndham Durango elicits mixed reactions from guests. While some appreciate its value as a budget-friendly option, others are disappointed by encounters with unclean rooms and substandard service. The atmosphere and amenities at the hotel get both praise and criticism, with comfortable beds mentioned as a highlight, but maintenance problems and an underwhelming breakfast detract from the experience. Travelers frequently cite concerns over cleanliness and safety in rooms, including dirty floors and hazardous broken tiles.

I can't in good conscience give a 5 star review because imo that applies to true luxury hotels, but this hotel met our needs and was well priced as we stayed a few days to see surrounding sites including Silverton and Mesa Verde.
Bed was very comfortable and ac unit worked well, drowning out outside noise nicely. Plenty of room space and storage room with a microwave and fridge (which froze everything) as well. Very friendly and helpful staff, and free breakfast was not extensive but good.
Not associated with the hotel in any way, but we expected a town that played on its historic image and instead found a town with many homeless drug addicts who panhandle in many public areas such as grocery stores and street corners, marijuana smoke permeating most of the town along with unfriendly weirdos and hippies everywhere.

Many travelers like funky hotels, each property having its quirks that make it unique. If that describes you, this is the hotel for you. But what makes this hotel a keeper is the staff. Upon arriving we noticed that the toilet was clogged, and they sent someone up in 5 minutes to fix it. The toilet required a minor adjustment and then worked great. The technician told us about the shuttle through town which seemed like a fine way to get around. After venturing to town and waiting to be seated at 8:00 for dinner (on a Wednesday night) we discovered that we missed the last shuttle. Too stuffed and out of shape to walk, we called the hotel to ask for a ride and someone was able to pick us up. Thanks Michael!. The assigned parking was another good perk so our parking space was always available.

How does a motel in Durango, CO where the fall temps are in the 30’s and 40’s not have heat in any of its rooms? And not tell you when you’re booking that there’s no heat!
I booked this based on reviews and prices but found out the evening we were checking in that there was no heat in any of the rooms.
It doesn’t have an elevator for the 2nd floor and all rooms face outside. Breakfast is ok. While the front desk staff is friendly, they are also very hard to understand. It also appeared that our bathroom wasn’t quite finished in a remodel. The floor board is missing and looks really bad.
Good things were that our room is spacious, bed was comfy, there is a microwave and fridge. It’s a fairly quiet location. The front desk also gave us an extra blanket for the bed but you have to ask.

We have stayed at Baymounts before, so felt confident this would be a good place to stay. When we arrived they only had one room - we went to the room and when we opened the door the smoky smell almost knocked us over! We went to the front desk and said we thought we would have a non-smoking room (which he said it was) and they gave us a can of air freshener. It masked the smell a bit but it was already late and we planned to leave early in the morning so we just stayed. The floor of the room had pieces of flooring sticking up. The bathroom floors/ walls were partially ripped off. There was not enough hot water in the morning for ONE shower, let alone 2. The breakfast was sub-par. The pictures of this place look great - but you DON'T WANT TO STAY HERE! Shame on you, Wyndham, for sponsoring this hotel!!

We got off to a bad start because when we went into our room, it absolutely reeked of cigarette and marijuana smoke. We were quickly placed in a different room, which also smelled of smoke, but not nearly as strong. The rooms had terrible lighting throughout. The dresser drawers did not open and shut correctly. One of the outlets in the bathroom area did not work at all. We had a king size bed, which only had three tiny pillows on it the first night of our stay. They were kind enough to give us additional pillows when we asked.
The first morning that we woke up at the hotel we discovered that the breakfast was not even up to very minimal standards. The coffee was terribly weak. There was not enough food and not enough space to sit at a table. If you did not want to eat a waffle, you had very limited options. They ran out of sausages, which was the only protein, and did not replace them. The entire room and bathroom were suspect. The room didn’t look 100% clean, the tile in the bathroom had been poorly patched with some kind of caulking, and there were rotted places in the woodwork throughout. There was no screen on the bathroom window. The absolute last straw was that the evening of our third and last night, there was no hot water for cleaning up. When we called the front desk, they told us that there had been a gas leak and that they had turned off the boiler. I was concerned enough about the words gas leak that I myself looked up the local gas company and called them to file a report. The next morning we awoke to no hot water again.
Not only would we never stay here again, it has completely turned us off ever staying at any Wyndham property of any sort, knowing that they allow this to happen. I’m not sure this place even should be allowed to operate based on city of Durango standards. Perhaps they should be investigated and even lose their business license.

It's difficult to know where to start!
Probably the worst Best Westerns we have stayed in during our month long road trip.
Breakfast looked and tasted like it was cooked the day before and just heated up. We ended up just picking up breakfast items from the grocery store across the street.
Our room had food left in the refrigerator from the previous guest. The refrigerator froze our food and drinks.
The heater couldn't be shut off or Aturned down. The room was way too hot. We had to use our fan to make it somewhat comfortable at night.
The lock on the door was malfunctioning making it difficult to get out of the room. A safety issue!
The room key stopped working.
The cleanliness of the room and hotel was questionable.
FYI: This facility is being used to house the homeless in the area. Unfortunately evidence of drug use.
A couple looked like the should be in a residential drug rehab to get the help they really need.
The homeless definitely need a place to stay and get the help they need but this hotel is probably not the best place!

Response from Michael Hanson, General Manager at Baymont by Wyndham Durango
Responded Nov 5, 2022
We checked the reported room issues and found two items: 1) you have to turn the thermostat down on the wall if you want a lower temperature, 2) you cannot store your room key next to a smart phone or will be decoded. Unfortunately, the guest chose to opine on a review rather than contact the front desk for help while he was here for 3 days. We have a breakfast attendant keeping items stocked and to give immediate assistance with any issue. We always serve freshly prepared eggs, sausage & potatoes and also feature waffles & a yogurt parfait bar. TripAdvisor declined to remove this review even though it is rife with falsehoods respecting our business practice. We treat everyone with respect, but we are not equipped or staffed to shelter the homeless. We do not condone illicit drug use. Our policies emphasize safety and security for all guests - guests that cannot abide by our policies are politely asked to leave the property promptly. We are appalled to see suggestions to the contrary on this review.

Bad on me for not checking reviews after we booked in the Spring. Travel a lot and this place was a dump. Realize they’ve been renovating but charging for rooms half done and not mentioning the pool and hot tub are filled with furniture for $170+ /nt is wrong. Pictures from our room are included. We slept in our clothes after seeing a bug in one bed. Lots of options in Durango so find someplace else. I did not find the staff pleasant or helpful as some mentioned. Oh and the five cop cars showing up to deal with a dispute in the parking lot just made it all more comfortable. Ha! Try camping instead!

If there no other hotels available in the area, sleep in your car you be better off.
After having a reservation for over a month, it was changed to a smaller room last minute and I was told that I cools either accept it or cancelled. I was already in the middle of a family vacation trip so I had no choice but to accept. Then after checking in we found the room air conditioner was not working, I was told by staff that they were in the process of upgrading the AC units but not all the room were done and that some had bad units in them. I asked to be moved to another room and was told they couldn’t so we had to sleep, 4 of us, on a room with no AC in the middle of June.
I asked to speak with a manager but was never able to.
This hotel is run by people that have little care for customers satisfaction and have no problem ruin your plans. Stay away at all cost.

Found bugs in the bed and on the floor, I went to the office to get moved to a different room and the girl said we don’t have any available rooms. She told me I could check out and they would refund the money, so I had her print me a receipt and checked out. When I called my Chase credit card to check on the refund they said the hotel refused to give me a refund fund because I never talked to anyone at the office or checked out, they totally lied.

I reserved 2 rooms at Baymont both for 2 nights. I have attached pictures of the accommodations. I would have taken more photos if i knew what a hassle it would be to get a refund for the rooms. The heater was physically broken and would not turn on in one room and the other had a tilted beds (this is not suitable when one of the guests has a cpap and is asthmatic). A broken heater is not okay when it is 25°. I also reserved a queen suite room that was supposed to have 2 queen beds with a couch. Neither of the rooms had that. I was informed that the entire motel did not have a queen suite. Both rooms were dirty and the pool was not functional like they had advertised. The staff was less than helpful and the manager gave a one night refund when the motel was not even safe to sleep in. I had to reserve another hotel last minute.

From the looks of the pool area it’s only being used as storage now and there is no indication they are doing anything to reopen it.
