The Best Western Plus Rio Grande Inn garners praise for its spotless premises and rooms, with guests appreciating the hospitable and attentive staff, especially during the complimentary breakfast and happy hour. Its value stands out, offering reasonable rates with perks like drink vouchers and a pet-friendly attitude. While the amenities, including the pool and breakfast options, receive positive notes, some guests mention occasional overcrowding and early closures. The hotel's cozy atmosphere and prime location near downtown hotspots further contribute to its appeal, although a few guests note the rooms could use some updates and soundproofing.

We had a 3rd floor king room, and it was large, quiet, and comfortable. It is an older hotel but well maintained. The balcony did not face the train and there was no way to turn off the outside light, so the balcony wasn't worthwhile for us.

Some reviews mentioned noise issues from the pool, but we found that the hotel did an excellent job of closing the pool at 9 p.m. to avoid noise issues. There were no noise issues during our stay.

Breakfast was very good, and the staff did an excellent job of keeping up even during one day when a large group came at once.

Laundry facilities were handy and very much appreciated. Since it is a smaller hotel, everything felt close and convenient.

We had really dirty shoes from hiking, and I asked at the desk for paper towels to clean our shoes. The lady at the desk went and found cleaning rags that we could use that were even better than I'd requested. She was so gracious and helpful.

If taking the Durango-Silverton train, this is the best hotel because it's just a short walk to the train station. We were glad not to have to deal with parking for the train.

Great location! Walking distance to downtown and the train station. Breakfast was fresh and hot. We enjoyed the complimentary cocktails too. Boys took a dip in the indoor pool which wasn’t heated so a little chilly but they still enjoyed it. Exercise room is limited but happy to see a Peloton! Also, they seem to be renovating and making a new gym on the upper level. Staff was also very friendly. We enjoyed our stay and would stay here again when in the area!

We appreciate your feedback! We have finished relocating the gym to the second floor, and have updated it with more options for our guests. Our pool is heated to the Best Western Standard of 85 degrees, as well as our hot tub to 104 degrees. We are glad you enjoyed our breakfast and happy hour, and we hope to see you again sometime!

Check in time is 4 PM but don’t count on your room being ready. You might have to wait 15-30 minutes later. Very busy hotel with lots of tour groups staying here. Rooms were slightly cramped, beds were so-so but starting to show signs of use. Maids unplug appliances or lamps and don’t replug items which older people can’t reach. Breakfast was just shy of being good. Space is cramped with so many people trying to maneuver around.

Overall, I would recommend The Best Western Plus Rio Grande Inn to budget-minded travelers who are looking for a clean and comfortable place to stay in Durango CO. The room was clean and comfortable. The staff was friendly and helpful. The location was next door to the Train Station and there is variety of dining options nearby.

We've stayed at a few Best Western Plus hotels and this was right in line with exceptional service. All employees we encountered were friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean and refreshed every day. The beds were great! We want to point out the exceptional service of Lisa in the dining area. She and her staff are top notch. She made sure that all guests were happy and we could tell the women working there was so happy. The location of the hotel is perfect for downtown shops and restaurants. The Silverton Rail Road Train is just a block up. Only one comment about the indoor pool; although the location in the center of the hotel was perfect for all guests and very pretty, the pool water was cloudy. So, not sure what can be done about that. What was nice, is that despite the pool's location and hotel rooms surrounding the pool; we were not affected by noise. This is just a great place to stay.

I highly recommend the Best Western Rio Grande. The hotel was in constant communication via text. When we needed extra towels a simple text brought them to our door. The adults in the party were provided with gratis drinks while the children played in the heated pool. Unlike many hotels I have stayed at since the beginning of Covid, our room was cleaned every day and restocked with towels and necessities. The staff was genuine and kind and worked to meet our needs. The room is well insulated both for sound and weather and is very convenient to town, literally a short walking distance. I stay at Best Westerns frequently, but this one is one of the best I have occupied.

The front desk personal were so welcoming and check in and check out went so smoothe. Our room was very clean and comfortable. Housekeeping staff was excellent so awesome and accomodating. Only had them come in to change sheets and sanitize once during our 9 day stay. I requested new garbage bags and asked where I could empty my trash every day as i wanted to do that. They also let me exchange dirty towels for clean ones with no hassle.
The complimentary breakfast was the best I have ever had. The staff preparing it was excellent truely an asset to the company. They would get waves of people at times through out the morning and they were always making sure everyone had what they needed even though it was crazy busy in there at times. Oh, the cocktail hour and staff also was amazing too, very acommodating and helpful making our stay so enjoyable. We would definitely stay here again. Loved the location too was able to walk into town.

The reason to stay at this hotel is location. It is only a long block walk to the train station and to Main Street where the shops and restaurants are. It’s a very convenient location.

Reasons not to stay are: 1) The hotel caters to bus tours. It is crowded. 2) The breakfast area needs to be twice the size to accommodate the number of guest. You have to wait to find a table. 3) Breakfast is below average for a Best Western. The dining area was out of coffee by 8:15. Had to go to the front desk area to get coffee. Nearly impossible to use the toaster because the area is too small for more than one person at a time. Oatmeal is instant in packages. 4) The toilets in the room are the height you would find in elementary school. Uncomfortable to use if you are over 12 years old. And, 5) a large hotel complex is being built next door. If your room is on the side of the construction, you will hear noise and possibly have workers seeing into your room.

We decided to visit Durango for our 25th wedding anniversary and were pleasantly surprised by the town and the hotel. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was great, we had a beautiful morning view of the sunrise! The breakfast was hot and plentiful each day. Even with the recent snowfall, the parking lot was plowed for easy parking and the stairs were salted down for safety. Can’t wait for our next visit!

We only stayed one night in Durango but should have stayed more as there's a lot to do in this town. The hotel was fine and located a block off of the downtown Main Street so it was easy to walk to restaurants and shopping. The room was large with a balcony and french doors looking out to the indoor swimming pool. They do have blinds on the doors for privacy. The room was dated with repaired ceiling areas showing and a single light bulb weirdly attached to the ceiling. They could have probably used a nicer light fixture instead of just a bulb. The breakfast was typical hotel fare and OK. We would stay here again.

Several little towns that have a lot of character.... My brother and I ride motorcycles out in the Rockies every September for eight years now. Loved Ouray Co. and their hot springs. Idaho Springs Co is very neat little town with a very neat downtown area. Steamboat Springs has a lot of Summer activities ( not just winter sports ). Buena Vista Co. has plenty activities on the Arkansas river; rafting-fly fishing- swimming-etc. Everywhere you can find something fun you just have to put your adventure game face on. Colorado-Utah-Wyoming-Montana-Arizona... they are all fantastic vacation paradise.... Good luck on your adventure.

Yes, yes, yes!! And so much more. Pool, hot tub, bar (two free drinks), breakfast (think bacon, sausage, eggs, waffles, fruit, cerial, tortillas, biscuits and gravy, milk, juice, cerial, coffee, you name it). And, the greatest staff on the West side of the Mississippi. You will not be disappointed.
