First the Durango Downtown Inn is closed forver, sold and has been turned into apartments. The date I put for staying there is incorrect, but you had to put a date. I believe the place closed at the end of September 2021. Some folks staying there actually got kicked out of their rooms at the end of the month.

I still look for pics of the place to see what happened to it in it's conversion to apartments.

My family stayed here several times when shutteling our son to summer camp in Durango, so I have some fond memories of the place and Durango.
But what I really wanted to say is I ended up looking over a number of old reviews of this place and they all say basically the same thing, great location, poor service, broken stuff, smelly rooms, bad carpeting, needs a fix up, and overpriced for what it was. I felt the same over time and finially stopped staying at the Inn.

I had the feeling when staying here there was a real lack of caring for the place by the staff and mostly the owner. I suspect he/she bought it, fixed it up a bit 30 years ago and then never put another dime into it knowing someday they would just sell it for the real estate value. And the lesson here is this was a hotel in harvest mode, milk it for what it is, invest nothing, and sell it. If you read reviews as I summarized about this place above, those are signs the long term prospects of a place may be limited.

If you have a 2nd floor room you'll be lugging your luggage up the stairs. When we checked our room we found there wasn't any soap. We asked for soap at the desk and the soap was all gone so they handed us some shampoo. I guess that works.

This is a dog friendly place so for a while it sounded like we were staying at a kennel as a dog was excited about seeing another pooch.

The room is comfortable and is near most of the things in Durango. Quick drive to the train station if you are going on a steam engine train ride.

Great location but still had to drive everywhere. Very clean rooms even though Inn is old and needs updating. Stayed on the side of the river so very quiet. Staff were very friendly. Online reservation system was a rip off...could not change reservation and paid for an extra night. Be careful !

Don’t stay here if you are a germaphobe or you like cleanliness. No problems with noise; no problems with homeless people; no issues with parking. HOWEVER!!!! The room is in bad need of renovation such as painting, and updating. Bed is good but all I could think about, is the filth in the carpet I
in bed with me. Loved the location; we were in the first room right across from the river and was pleasant. But @ Downtown Inn??? Please please please renovate, paint, take carpet out of pet friendly rooms so that people won’t mind paying you for your ideal location!!!!

First thing I have to say is that the staff is very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable. Hotel is across the street from downtown and very easy to walk to every site in the downtown area, enjoyed the pool and hot tub after a long day of walking. Yes I would book a stay here again.

So besides the sketchy area the hotel is in. We felt very uneasy about leaving anything in the car or walking our dog around. A drunk man approached my husband asking for money. Then a hotel employee was shining his flashlight under the stairways for people sleeping under them. Our room stunk like stinky feet, the carpet was dirty, there was a dead bug on my a/c and during these times of Covid I should be able to walk into a room and feel good about it. This hotel needs updating tremendously. We booked two nights, we checked out the next day.
I work for a hotel so I know what’s acceptable and what’s not. No bueno! Especially for what we were charged a night.

This was the perfect location to experience downtown Durango, since the whole area is very walkable. The hotel staff was nice and the room was clean. The hot tub and pool were enjoyable. We also enjoyed walking along the river just outside of the parking lot. The only downside was that the bed was not super comfortable.

Spent one night here with friends. It’s an outdoor room access inn right on the river, conveniently located within walking distance of Main St and grocery stores. The 4 pillows and bed was very comfy, but the AC was very loud and you needed to keep it running else the room got too stuffy. I was pretty disappointed that the pool was closed, since I thought I was paying a little more to stay at a hotel with a pool. But it was an ok stay and I got a good nights sleep.

Stayed for 10 nights in May and felt like I was at home , actually low occupancy given the pandemic but great month to enjoy the quiet slow pace, hikes along the Animas River, picnic dinners in the courtyard , conveniences to food in town , and personable hotel personnel-esp. the manager Jeremy!!

Especially enjoyed watching 1983 National Lampoons “Vacation” filmed in Durango and the scene of the original pool- which is now a courtyard .

Great location for couples , families , business or solo- safe, clean, comfortable.

Durango was one of seven stops on our Southwest road trip. It is a very cool, friendly, outdoorsy, artsy kind of place. We stayed in a hotel that was walking distance from town, and enjoyed walking around town and on Durango’s beautiful river path. Everywhere we went, shopkeepers were friendly and engaging, as were total strangers! Durango is situated where the desert ends and the mountains begin. After driving through various red rock parks and deserts on our trip, we were thoroughly refreshed to be in greenery with flowing water! There are tons of independent shops and restaurants to choose from. Nothing “big box” about this downtown, but Durango does have some large stores if that’s what you’re looking for. We enjoyed the vibe of this town so much that we would return for a much longer time there.
