If you're traveling with dogs, the riverfront rooms are perfect - just pop out the door to a lawn and the walking path along the riverbank. Upscale beds and amenities -- and that all-important great water pressure in the shower -- give you every comfort. Breakfast in the dining room (not included, but reasonable) offers a river view; try the avocado toast (wholewheat bread, feta cheese spread, arugula, two eggs). Overall, pretty much perfect!

We were very pleased with our stay at DoubleTree Durango. The location was terrific and the balcony of our spacious room overlooked the Animas River. Very scenic. Parking was easy. The dual bathroom sinks were a nice feature and there was plenty of closet space. Coin laundry facilities were another plus. The entire staff was courteous. The only complaint would be that the place needs a bit of a makeover in a few respects: some of the lights in the big sign out front were burned out; a chair in our room had peeling upholstery, etc. Still, we would stay there again.

This is an Excellent hotel! From Justin checking us in and answering a myriad of questions, to the man who offered to help us with our luggage (turns out he is the General Manager), to Don who gave us lots of tips about doing things in and around Durango while he took care of the pool and hot tub, the service was top notch! And speaking of the pool area -the best we've seen in a hotel. Sparkling clear water, perfect temperatures, and no chlorine smell because of the salt system they use. The bedroom was entirely comfortable while the sound of the Animas River rushing past just outside our patio door was delightful. We were celebrating our 42nd anniversary and were given a bottle of champagne (which we traded for sparkling juice) to honor the occassion! If you have a chance to go here, do.

Be prepared to enter a time warp as you walk into the DoubleTree Durango, you will get to re-live the '70s! Unfortunately, it looks like the hotel hasn't been cleaned since then. It is very hard to find anything positive to say about this hotel, particularly when you are spending $400+ a night. Walking down the corridor felt like walking through the set of 'The Shining'. The room was not much better. We were greeted by a dirty room covered in thick dust and a chair that was falling apart, cigarette burns included. Luckily, the DoubleTree provides complimentary Lysol wipes which we needed plenty of. They (apparently) even expect you to place the bin liners in the bins yourself and leave them by the side of the bin. You can probably appreciate that we were not keen on paying $400 a night to do our own housekeeping. We notified the staff regarding the condition of the room and their solution was to get housekeeping to refold the toilet paper into a triangle and advise that it had been sorted. The heavy wooden furniture and headboard looked ancient and gave the room a really run down feel. The floor in the bathroom is even on an angle. Staying in this room alongside the askew lamps, stains, dust and broken furniture was actually really depressing. The bed was very uncomfortable and the pillows as flat as a pancake. Do not expect to sleep in, the sound of the local steam train attraction will wake you repeatedly (although I can appreciate this is not within the hotel's control). The highlight of this stay was departure, we couldn't wait to leave and will never return. I look forward to the DoubleTree's standard response that I am sure will be thoughtfully cut and paste from a previous review.

This hotel is in a good location right along the Animas River but it's really showing it's age unfortunately. For the price range and the condition of the rooms it's over price. The hotel could use a complete renovation and make it look much more contemporary or updated and you can tell when you walk into the lobby or walk down the hallways without even entering a room. I paid over $300 for a room during a summer month and didn't feel I received my moneys worth.

The restaurant/bar serves average food and I felt they were understaff during our visit because the service was slow. If you're a Diamond member the hotel offers $15 per person (up to 2 people in a room) daily food & beverage credit.

The best part of the hotel during our visit was the pool area with a nice hot tub. They had the hot tub turned up hot which I prefer. The pool is small compared to other hotels their size. Another nice aspect of the hotel is the walk path right behind the hotel. I would request a room with a view of the river during your stay but that does cost extra.

Attached are some outside photos that I hope you find helpful if you're considering staying here.

Personel is completely not interested to suply customer demands. We stayed 2 nights, spent over $3K and service was extremely poor. Price for the hotel is overpriced. When we called for price, they won’t tell you the price inclusive tax. Then next morning we were surprised by the fact that breakfast was not included wich they told us on telephone was included. I will not pay extra for breakfast at this hotel so went downtown. Later in the hotel bar we go a big mouth from the bartender which wasn’t at it post for over 30 minutes. So we left after the discussion . Never go back there.

We stayed here for a night. It was OK, but the total price was more than $300 for two people in a queen/room, which I found overly expensive for standard "chain" hotel accommodations.

We requested a room with a river view, which we had. The view was indeed nice, BUT, just on the other side of the river is a major highway entrance/exit so there was quite a lot of noise.

We waited a long time to check in, I mainly because a new person was being trained. I certainly understand that's important, so I waited patiently. Nevertheless, the whole front desk team seemed a little dazed and confused, and I had to ask about basic things like parking and food service.

On the upside:
- Clean room and nice bedding
- Walking distance to downtown

I feel bad to leave a semi-negative review, because overall it wasn't a terrible stay. Just not what I would expect for the money.

Dear FayerichNY, Thank you for your feedback. We are disappointed that the team did not meet your expectations. The view of the river is great but with the benefit of being so close to downtown, the major road nearby is a necessary evil. We look forward to welcoming you back to show you what are team is normally like. We will use you feedback for our team's continuous improvement.

Our 4th floor Animus River view balcony room with a king sized bed was spacious. The balcony was screened and had comfortable wrought iron chairs and a side table where we read and watched kayaks and rafts float down the river. The room was quiet and the terrific view was shaded by an Aspen tree. The room attendants were exceptional. Our room was made up and cleaned multiple times over our 6 night stay. Coffee supplies were replenished as used. The bed was comfortable with various pillow types and a down duvet with crisp overlay sheets. Great water pressure and towels that were actually soft. The hotel has an Albertson’s with a Starbucks right next door. Downtown Durango and the train depot is two blocks away. Durango Rafting company is in the parking lot of Albertsons. I would definitely stay here again.

We booked a queen suite for a weekend stay on our way home. I stayed at Hilton properties and was always satisfied, knowing Hilton reputation for a quality hotel. Well, the outside of the building is beautiful, as is the lobby. From then, downhill. We had a room upgraded, (which we paid for) to a first floor location. For a Hilton, the room was shabby, old air conditioning units, electric heater that should have been removed when they switched to a newer unit. The so called refrigerator was the tiniest I had seen in a quality hotel. The paint outside our patio door had pealed and was all over the seating area. We went to the restaurant on the main floor and we only saw one person working, doing everything. There were three other tables that were not cleaned off, crumbs on the floor, and other tables waiting for something or other. We waited again and ordered a drink. My drink was a mixer and I was the mixer person but was never given a glass to mix it in. The busboy, hummm, I'll leave that alone. We decided not to order and left. We felt sorry for the conditions the waitress was working under, but she was always cheerful. There was no sign of any kind of management. This was the worst Hilton property I had stayed in and was definitely not even close to the $409 we paid. The location was the only positive thing about the whole stay, but the hotel seems to have forgotten, that people do make use of the rooms they booked.

We went for a late anniversary trip and booked a king bed wellness room with city
views for $285-$381 (different priced for different days during our stay)

I would rate 2.5 stars if I could.

The Good:
The room was very clean on arrival.
Bed comfortable
Good purifier in the room.
Hotel location great (convenient grocery store and gas station nearby)
The river walk is beautiful
Staff were always helpful and considerate
Lounge was pleasant for a drink and some food
Contactless Check-In/Check-Out with Digital Key
Easy to find outlets on the base of the lamps.

The Not So Good:
No one ever came to clean our room during our entire stay. For the price we paid,
I expected some daily cleaning and fresh towels.

We had to ask for fresh towels, not enough towel bars to hang for reuse
The purifier is a little loud even on low.
Can hear traffic noise on the city view (River view is better)
Room could use a little updating
Homeless people are in the park surrounding the river walk. As a female, I wouldn’t
walk by myself.
Would have liked a few more appetizers on the lounge menu. There were only two
and they were out of one of them.

The Uneasy:
While loading our car to leave early in the morning, this guy with a back pack kept circling our car getting closer and closer and peering at me. I locked myself in the car while waiting for the spouse. He circled again and looked at me in the car. The guy then stands outside the side door of the hotel waiting for spouse to come back out. Spouse asked if he needed something and he said no and just keep waiting outside the hotel side door. Ultimately, he didn’t do anything, but it made me quite uneasy. I would just say be aware and have some pepper spray.
