We have just returned from a one week stay at Valana Appartments. Before travelling we had trawled the web and found one write up suggesting it was a'hotch potch of four concrete buildings.' True they were made of concrete and the accommodation was fairly basic but clean. One complaint we had regarding the bedding was dealt with very quickly.Noise level was quite good as we were round the rear and we had a superb view of the mountains. Probably this would soon be disappearing with the new complexes being built. Next to our room were some quite expensive new detached villas.

Evening entertainment was two nights of 'line dancing' - an acquired taste I fear. There might have been a carioke and of course there was a traditional Greek/Cypriot night.

Perhaps there was not enough to do for the younger set as it was a little way inland from the main strip of bars and restaurants.

However we found the staff very courteous and helpful. We had travelled with Olympic for the first time and found their rep Sinead very knowledgeable.

We can recommend the local buses and for the fitter among you the walk back from the Old Port, joining the locals on their evening promenade.

Overall a very enjoyable experience.

We are travelling to Cyprus again in July and would have stayed here again but it was fully booked.

We stayed for 2 weeks first impressions of the valana hotel were good, the apartment we stayed in was clean and spaceous. Its basic but thats all we expected (after all it is 2.5* so offcourse its basic). This is just what we needed something cheap and cheerful in easy reach of resturaunts, bars etc. However towards the end we spent less and less time at the hotel both day and night. During the day the pool was over run by locals, it seemed to be the only pool in limassol they could use free of charge. The paying customers were relegated to the sidelines with very few sunbeds and umbrellas, these became gold dust when the locals took over. As for night time entertainment the main attraction was mundane line dancing which was on 3 times one of the weeks we were there, the only attendants seem to be ex-pats not hotel guests (need to sort their priorities me thinks). Cyrpus night was cancelled one week as well as karaoke which both seemed more appealing and brought more young fresh faces in. The cleaners were a little too relaxed not emptying our toilet bin for 4 days once and turning up at irregular times! One evening the cleaner came by at 7pm when i was showering so she couldnt clean bathroom or replace towels. We didnt let this ruin our holiday and still had a good time in cyprus, by far the biggest complaint was the locals invading the pool which led to some guests changing hotel so beware best to go before late july - august when cypriot schools break up. Definately recommend fasouri water park 15min drive away!

The Valana apartments were a bit of a mixed bag. We were in an annexe away from the main hotel, seemingly in a block unpopulated by any other guests. This did not bother me too much, but the building site across the road did.

Not really the Valanas fault that though. The apartments were very spacious, apart from the tiny bathroom. I couldn't fault the apartment in terms of facilities and cleanliness. The bed was uncomfortable, more pillows required.

The staff at the Valana were friendly and helpful. We went through Olympus, and they seemed well organised. We went on excursions to the Cyprus night, which was excellent, and Paphos, which was pretty good as well.

There is a pool at the Valana, with an attached bar. This was quite nice, but was marred by the loud music pumping out from some local radio station, and the locals who descended on the pool in the afternoon. I come on holiday to relax and not feel like I am being pushed out of a pool I have paid for by a bunch of non-paying guests.

Night time entertainment at the Valana is fleeting, and not quite right. The tiny bar is good enough, but the guests are an odd mix of old locals with young thai women, ex-pat locals and random guests. There is no sense of a "community" as you get in some hotels.

Regarding Limassol itself, it is a busy town, on a main road. It is not a picturesque Cypriot town. There are some nice bars and restaurants, but it is very reminiscent of a tacky Spanish resort. There is no beach.

It is also very expensive - Cypriot pound prices are equivalent to UK Pound prices out here, but the exchange rates it is more expensive than the UK.

I would recommend Cyprus, as the locals are very friendly and it is hot - But not the Valana or Limassol. Go to the East of the island or somewhere more tranquil instead.

Room was clean and fine for what was required.
Sheets could have been changed a bit more often, as was there for 2 weeks and they were on changed once.
Overall a fairly friendly hotel.
If you are looking for somewhere to eat you have to try 'The Thatch House' Restaurant and bar which is situated in front of one of the blocks of apartments of the hotel, and just behind the swiming pool. Food and service was excellent!
Have a good trip

Accommodation was basic, clean and comfortable. Towels changed every other day and beds change once in the week. Only ate bar snacks in the hotel which were average. Excellent pool, but over run by locals daily which was very annoying. Easily accessible to the local town. Had a very enjoyable holiday would return to this hotel if we got a good deal. Paid over the odds on this holiday for the standard of accommodation.

We stayed at this hotel in 2004, first impressions of Limassol and the hotel were disappointing though further into the holiday it became very enjoyable. The weather was scorching and we made many friends who were staying at the Valana, its a small and friendly hotel. Didnt find a great deal to do nearby and the beach was very disappointing we had to travel up the road for 2 miles to find a beach with sand on it behind one of the 5 star hotels!! Ate out in the same bar most evenings "Charade" where the staff are fantastic and made our 8 year old son Ryan very welcome indeed! Lucas is a star!! Went on a couple of trips one on a coach round the island to Aphrodites Rock which was lovely and to the waterpark which was the highlight of the hols for me and my son, we loved it!!
The only let down for this hotel for us was the fact that the locals were allowed to use the pool and at the weekend it became packed, they just seemed to take over the place.
We had breakfast in the poolside bar which was average as were the snacks served during the day.
Would go back to Cyprus again but not stay in Limassol found it very short of things to do for a family holiday.

My husband and I were dissappointed in the Hotel management's inability to control unruly guests. We were put in an annexe to the actual hotel. Despite numerous requests to behave more acceptably some guests (football fans) vommitted, made noise and messed themselves on their balcony from 4am. the racket continued until the morning. The management choose not to evict these guests and we had no choice but to seek alternative accomodation at our own expense. I will not return or use Argo/ Medlife holidays unless I receive an apology and recompense for my extra expenses.

Let's get straight to the point, this isn't the "best" hotel you will ever stay in, however, it is fantastic value for money, and the location is perfect to be able to get out and about and see the rest of the beautiful island.

Most people who have been to Cyprus, travelling from the uk, will know, Cyprus tends to come under the higher price bracket!! We got the Valana at a great price, and were even happier that it was half board.

Valana is located just off the Limassol main high street, with fantastic links to the local motorways. It was run by a family who were very friendly and helpful and always happy to help! The hotel itself was a 3* however, had most of the amenities that you need from a hotel. The Valana was in need of a re-vamp, which could be mistaken as dirty, but if you look closely, everything was clean and tidy and our room was HUGE! The room had a large living area/kitchen, bathroom, double bedroom & small balcony over looking the pool. We have friends & Family who live in neighbouring towns to Limassol who regularly came to visit us and stayed on the sofa's which converted into beds. So as you can see it had ample room. We had hired a car too, which we were able to park in the hotels car park. The pool was large and contained, with a bar & restaurant on hand. The hotel has very little night life, but this was fine for us as we were happy to go out. This just made the hotel quiet and peaceful at night.

Prior to going, we had read some negative reviews, where some had complained about the locals using the pool area during the hours after 2. This is true, and the pool area does fill up, but we rarely found this a problem as there were always loungers available or the beach a small walk away.

Being half board was ideal for as you could go and eat up until 8.30pm. You were able to have breakfast & a main meal in the evening, but if you missed breakfast and asked nicely, sometimes the owner would allow you 2 switch this for a mid day snack. The great thing with the food was it wasn't in a buffet style, there was a menu. This meant you could pick exactly what you wanted and not worry it had been sitting on the hot plate all evening! This food was no where near 5* standards, however, it was more than edible, tasty and in fairness, similar to the things you eat at home, so I don't understand sometimes why people just moan when the food was fine!

Having never been to Cyprus before, we were open to where we stayed, but would prob say we wouldn't want to stay in Limassol again. Limassol, despite being located right on the coast, is still a City, so was a little pricey in the bars and restaurants and usually rammed with locals which can be a little intimidating. However, if you shop around you can find some great deals! As a rule of thumb, if you shop like a tourist you will pay tourist prices. Think like a local and you will search out some real hide aways and treats! (Big Ben's on main strip, just passed Nando's has great food, with a huge menu and is only 16 euro's for a 3 course meal and a glass of local wine! BARGAIN!)

We hired a car for the duration of our holiday and would recommend everyone does this! We were really able to explore the island and find some beautiful deserted beach's and spots to sunbath!! Along with this, we were also able to see some of the hot spots in Limassol, all of these I would recommend a look at - Ayia Napa for it's crystal clear waters and sandy beach's & for the lively it's great night life - Coral Bay for its sandy beach, although it does get a little packed!) - Aphrodities rock - Amphitheatre - Chris Blue & Lady mile beach - Ship wreck off Ackrotiri base - Limassol old town for it's traditional shopping - Nicosia town centre, be it very warm - Famagusta ghost town view point.

i have stayed at this hotel 3 times , and i always find the hotel clean and comfortable , the pool area is great for the lazing around and soaking up the sun, beware there is no life guard but there are life rings and plenty of depth signs in and around the pool. there is a small shop near to the hotel called lucys and here is very good value for buying fags and drink, the hotel has a good choice of food ,but dont buy the milkshakes for the kids i had to pay £5 for 2 this about £2.75 english each ,ouchhhh, but overall a nice to place to stay and enjoy the sun ,,,,

Booked a last minute deal , thankfully we didnt pay the full brochure price. Having read the other reviews before we went meant we knew what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised though, we had 2 large apartments, 1 for ourselves and one next door for our 3 teenagers.Air conditioning was extra but was necessary. Music started at 10am at the pool and the afternoons and weekend proved very popular with the locals. If anything it added more color and holiday atmosphere and they bought drinks and food at the pool bar.
Drinks and food are expensive. Very nice Chinese restaurant called Patagoda at the front of hotel, worth booking.

До моря идти 10 минут, но надо брать с собой покрывало, пляж "дикий". Рядом есть обустроенный с платными лежаками.Пляжи песочные, но серого цвета (говорят что вулканического происхождения), после дождя песок выглядит чёрным.
