Notably good for a motel. It's apparent that the owners take good care of their property -- clean grout, amenities in good shape, nothing missing, wall protector behind the door knob, decent smell (i.e., absence of smell). I'm glad we found this affordable sanctuary in the overpriced New Haven market. Also, Stop & Shop, gas and dining options nearby. Caveat: based on only one stay in one room. Will be back next week.
BED BUGS!!! I notified the front desk upon realizing that my children and I had bed bug bites - rather than mosquito bites - as I first assumed. (Bed bug bites get larger and turn dark red and really hurt - not just itch - for about a week.) The front desk clerk said he would look into it and get back to me in two days. He did not; I called again and he said he could not get an exterminator for a month (there are many in Branford and can service a property within hours). He also told me he has a degree in molecular biology and that it was too late to resolve problem. . . The room is still being let. I filed a report with Priceline, through which I rented the room, and the Branford-Guilford Department of Health. I also wrote to Choice Hotels, the conglomerate which owns Rodeway Inn & Suites, and they did not reply. I strongly discourage anyone from staying here or in other Choice Hotels. Bed bugs are an awful experience.…
I called and spoke to Dinu (later found out he is the manager) for the hotel to approve a change Expedia was requesting. Dinu was extremely rude and kept saying "they have your money now and there's nothing you can do about it." He then hung up on me after a 5 minute 25 second call. I called back and he hung up again. I have worked as management in hospitality for most of my professional life and have only ever hung up on a guest once ever (it was after a 28 minute call where the guest was constantly cursing and using derogatory language). If this is the level of service you get over the phone from a manager, I can only imagine how terribly the place is run. Would never stay.
Older hotel, but very nice! Large and comfortable room. Kitchenette with table. Clean and very friendly owner. Quick check-in and enjoyed visiting with owner at check-out. We were passing through so didn’t have a chance to do much in the area. After driving 481 miles, we got Subway and ate in the room.
Clean rooms, friendly staff, convenient location, easy on and off Interstate yet quiet eating places close by , arrived early and rooms were ready for us. Recommend for families traveling with kids. Close to beaches, about 5 miles away.
