We stayed at Chundu Island Camp for three nights in October 2015 and it was absolutely amazing from start to finish. Our host Ian picked us up in a large safari truck after a very long flight from the UK and a exceptionally hot walk around Victoria Falls. He came armed with a large cooler box full of ice cold...

We stayed at 4 camps during our trip to Zimbabwii including Changa and Kanga. Chundu was by far the worst. It was run down and very poor value compared to the other camps. The manager was hoping to have the place refurbished but there were questions about the future of the camp.

Wow! what a tranquil place. This island has a fantastic setting on the upper Zambezi. I spent 3 nights there last week. After a great 1 hour game drive (lots of elephants and giraffes) thru' the Park to get to the boat it is just a 100m hop over to the island. I was lucky enough to meet 2 of...

Two bliss full nights at this warm and unpretentious getaway, on an island on the Zambezi river an hour upstream of Victoria Falls. Hosts Gary and Sonia, picked me up at the Falls, and a slow drive through the National Park stopping to view game on the way. Warm greeting from the staff on arrival and was shown to a...

Our guides were excellent and we got on really well with them, they were very knowledgeable and our safety was always their number one concern The canoeing itself we loved, dodged hippos and crocs for 2 days, so that added to the excitement. Rapids were small but good enough for us. The Island itself: The hosts were very friendly and...

Chundu Island Camp was our first stop on our 2 month African adventure and decided to stay 5 nights to get our African legs, so to speak, after two overnight flights and a 12 hour layover in London. The camp is exactly as reviewed by the previous reviewers. The food overall was the best we had during our Africa trip...

A beautiful bush camp which has all the essentials good food, comfortable beds, outdoor bathroom with all the facilities of an indoor bathroom. All the delights of nature right at your door. Elephants swam across the river and grazed around the camp, bushbuck and monkey grazing in the grounds. Sitting on your private deck or the main dining area you...

Occasionally we have stayed in a place we truly consider to be special. Chundu Island Camp is. The quality of the place is premised on the hosts and location. John and Sarah are incredibly welcoming, warm and generous and did everything possible to ensure our stay was memorable. We left feeling we had made new friends. The "tents" are large,...

Remote, peaceful. Great opportunities for game viewing on the main land with options for boat safari in afternoon. Saw Lion, Hyena, Elephant, Giraffe and many birds to mention a but a few. The promo photos are very good however you should not expect luxury. However, you should expect a comfortable stay, with great food, great company and a great experience....

This beautiful camp, which really is on an island(!), is about an hours drive from the entrance of the Zambezi National Park and is then only accessible by boat. The main camp area and all the 'rooms' face towards the park so, if you keep your eyes peeled, occasionally you'll see a passing elephant or hippos swimming by and the...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
A private Eco Lodge set 22kms upstream along the Zambezi River on an island, Zimbabwean side. Close enough to the Falls to enjoy all it has to offer, but far enough away to experience authentic African hospitality. Small and personal with only six lodges the Camp is a favourite for "off the beaten track" guests as well as individual travellers. Camp managers Sonia and Garry and their gracious staff, along with a sprinking of up close and personal game encounters, make this an excellent choice. ... more   less

“We had tented room #3 with the best view. Don't expect power all day, mostly just morning and evenings. Plenty of hot water, but enjoyed a cool shower in the middle of a hot day. Do explore the island. I found a great perch for bee eaters on the west side and enjoyed watching and photographing them perched there with dragonflies in their beaks.”
