Stayed here as a stop over on our way to the south of France. Portes Les Valence is not in anyway an attractive town and this hotel is right on a main road. The plus sides are friendly staff and a comfortable air conditioned room. The food was ok but not remarkable by French standards. Frankly their wine list was poor for a hotel in the Rhone Valley. It had a motel feel about it. The BBQ food station did not smell terribly appetising and the breakfast offering was merely adequate. I doubt we will stop here again. The pool was more like a plunge pool and splashing families did get some guests sitting nearby a little damp
Stayed for a night during motorcycle travels. We booked this as it said had pool and this sounded good during the hot weather and let us relax. The pool is tiny and actually sits beside restaurant where everyone can watch you. Not very good. The food in restaurant was not good and service very slow. We actually found the Tabac down road to the left in centre very good. In fact girl gave us some encrout ham free which was nice.
Stayed for one night en route to Spain. Fairly easy to find and a friendly welcome at reception. Our room was comfortable if a bit on the small side, but it had everything we needed for a one night stay. Breakfast was OK, typical continental buffet breakfast with plenty of coffee. Check out was easy and fast. The parking was a bit limited, but our journey took longer than anticipated, so it was enough just to be able to park the car off road. I will post a separate review for the hotel restaurant, le Table, because it is in a different class to the hotel!
The hotel makes a good job of countering its unpreposessing location next to an industrial zone with a quality refurbished interior, original restaurant and very welcoming staff. Our €99 double was quite small but very clean and modern with air conditioning and opening windows. The restaurant served generous proportions and specialised in local wines and knowledgeable recommendations on matching wine to food and welcomed children. The outdoor patio to the rear is an attractive place to rest after a long drive and quiet, despite a busy main road at the front. We had a rear room which was quiet, but the front rooms that face onto the main road might not be so restful. The pool is small - probably fine for kids, rather than adults.
On our last trip to Spain, we decided to have 1 night rest in Valence (about 500 or so km from our destination in Spain ). We booked 2 rooms for our family (nearly 100€/night per room). They were small and have terrible isolation. Our daughters did not have a good sleep because rhw guest next door were chatting almost the whole night!. We also had dinner that evening, ordered nothing complicated : steaks for thw girls and grilled fish for my husband and shrimp for me. We were probably pretty tired and did not make any issue when the food served were pre-grilled and probably the chef have kept them in the fridge or so because they were on the cold side ( their specialities : grilled). The grilled vegetables were so oily with burned taste. The next day, was hoping to have at least a good breakfast before we go , but it was so poor for what we had to pay. Who ever took the picture of the rooms, swimming pool etc..did a very good job, they look so much nicer and bigger than in reality! . I expect a standard room with standard nothing fancy for what they charge per room/night but a total bill of nearly 500€ is soo not worth it. Staying in a simple hotel chain probably had been a better idea.…
