When I booked the hotel I was a little iffy because of the cost (cheap), plus the mixed reviews i've seen. When we walked in it wasn't the most welcoming place but the guy at the front desk was very nice. We got the key to our room, which was right down the hall. We opened the door and were pleasantly surprised. It was clean, smelled fine, the bed was pretty comfortable - they have a fridge, microwave, and iron. The guy at the front desk also brought us 2 complementary bottles of water, which I thought was nice. It had a decent TV with enough stations to keep me occupied. If I am in the area again, I will book this hotel. You can't beat the price.

Me and my son stayed at this hotel for three nights. It's located at the entry point of the town, a bit away from the city center. But the room was spacious and comfortable. I found the staffs friendly. This hotel doesn't have any restaurant. There's an Indian restaurant just beside the hotel. But if you want to taste other foods then you have to call a taxi or walk.

We stayed here one night with five other couples in our family. The family took up most of the second floor. We were all attending a wedding at the Pavilion at Crystal Lake. This was the hotel closest to that. It is also close to Middletown, but you have to drive there.

The room was quite large and clean. There were two queen beds in the room. The beds didn't match as one was taller than the other, and the bedspreads didn't match. Neither of these things mattered to us, and the beds were comfortable. There was a sleeper sofa in the room, but if it were to be pulled out, it seemed like it could get in the way of the passage to the bathroom and the door. There were both microwave and fridge in the room. There were no facial tissues, but there were shampoo and soap. The AC was OK.

All the second floor rooms face the road. Across the road is a small park with a pond. All the second floor rooms have a 4' x 6' balcony, but there are no chairs on the balcony. From what I saw of our family's rooms, all the second floor rooms are pretty much identical.

The rear of the second floor opens out to the ground. The hotel is backed up against a hillside and has a few fire doors across the hall from the rooms. The office is at one end of the second floor. The entrance to the second floor is on the side of the building. There is a parking lot on that side, and you only have to climb a few steps to get into the building from there. I didn't go to the first floor so I don't know the arrangement or the rooms there.

The owners were friendly and helpful. Check-in was easy. There is a restaurant in front of the hotel, but it was undergoing renovations while we were there. We would not have gone there anyway because we had the wedding to attend that afternoon/evening.

Overall, this is a good budget hotel, and we would stay there again.

We stayed in August, 2013. This pet friendly hotel features clean, large rooms with a good bed for a good nights sleep. A bonus is the fridge, microwave, iron and free internet. Staff was friendly. A great value at a reasonable price.

For $51, its hard to beat. Big, clean rooms, with a microwave and a mini-fridge (and a TV and ironing-board and a hair dryer - but no coffee service). The beds very comfortable. Run by a family that lives on premises. They were very accommodating. Its been newly renovated, which may explain the difference between our experience and some of the the other reviews. There is an Indian restaurant next door, decent food for the value.

Downsides:
* The restaurant is not open for breakfast. The hotel does put out K-cup coffee and pastries. There are multiple fast-food & diner places about a mile up the road.
* There is no coffee service in the room, so if you need something to heat water in, you need to get your own cup (we borrowed one from the manager).
* Carpet glue smell in the corridor is still strong.

We would stay here again if we needed to stay in Middletown

The upper floor where we stayed had been recently refurbished. Apparently they had a little incident with the roof collapsing under snow load. Not too worry, I'm sure it's much sturdier now! Basically, almost everything was new. Carpet, paint, TV, all very nice. Had a bit of an off smell to it, but not mold or anything, and not horrible like some cheap deodorizers. Maybe decades of Indian incense or something, that was definitely present...

Fridge and a microwave in the room, Nice tile floors, and a balcony at this price though, anywhere outside of Camden or Newark and I don't care, you're getting one heck of a deal!

My husband and I have just finished teaching here in Middletown this week, and we stayed at the Passport Inn and Suites. It has met our needs just fine! It has all the basic things we needed - king sized bed, clean bathroom, table and chair to work on, reliable WiFi, cell phone service, sofa and coffee table, TV, a large dresser, refrigerator and a microwave to make our breakfast and heat up coffee and tea water.

It is clean and well appointed, and our room even has a walk-out balcony. It was 10 minutes away from where we were teaching this week at Middlesex Community College, and only several miles from downtown Middletown, where there are more variety of restaurants, many international, that you could possible cover even in month. There is an Indian Restaurant on site of the motel, which we'll probably try next week, as we will be back for the second week as we are teaching the rest of this course and will be again staying here at the Passport Inn.

Certainly there are fancier hotels/motels in Hartford, but it would cost you at least at double the price, which is fine if that is how you want to spend your money. Also it would have been a lot more daily driving and bucking all that traffic and not nearly as convenient. The folks at the Passport are gracious, helpful, and accommodating. For us, it's been a great place to call home for a week.

The main entry door is on a step that's too small to stand on and open the door. Once inside, the manager is behind a glass door. It feels weird at first but compared to the similarly priced Inn across town, this place is a paradise. The building has been renovated and the rooms are large. The little balcony looks out over a parking lot just below, but pretty trees and hills in the distance. Also visible is the Indian restaurant next door and a dumpster full of old construction material. An eye sore, but you don't have to look at it! The room was very large and the furnishings were placed logically and comfortably. The bathroom was clean, though a bit dingy--more renovation money was spent on the room than the bathroom. Bed was comfortable. Microwave and fridge in the room, a sofa, big TV, wifi.

I have stayed at this hotel 3 times when visiting my son at Wesleyan. The rooms are very clean and the service is very friendly. I left a pair of shoes and the owners were willing to send them to me.
Great quality price relationship!
