My wife and I traveled here for a political science convention being held down the street at the HIlton. We are glad that we chose it! It was less expensive than the HIlton, and was an easy walk to it. The hotel is in excellent condition and was not hard to find. Everyone there was courteous, and we would be pleased to stay there again. Everything was in superb condition; this is a well maintained hotel. There's plenty of shopping and places to eat nearby as well.

Check-in process was super easy and fast. Staff was friendly, informative, and kept safe by wearing masks. There is a table in front of the front desk station to promote the social distancing. There are hand sanitizer stations by the elevator and inside the elevator to clean your hands after pushing the elevator buttons. The pools was open but the fitness center was understandably still closed. The room itself was big, modern, and clean. There was a microwave and refrigerator in the room (both were clean). There is a Keurig machine as well but unfortunately ours was broken as the lid would not close. It was no big deal for myself personally but I did inform the front desk agent about it upon check out. The bathroom and beds were clean. The beds were super soft and comfortable. The AC worked fine and kept the room nice and cool during my hot and humid summer stay. No issues with the Wi-Fi. There was plenty of parking spaces available. The hotel is closely located to a bunch of restaurants and a less than 10 minute walk to the Olde Mystic Village shopping area. Also the hotel is close to 95 and is easily accessible to the highway. Overall a very pleasant stay. I booked the room off a third party website as it was heavily discounted. I was very pleased with the room and would definitely stay here again when I’m in the area.

This place is nice enough, however they advertise breakfast on all sites and don't offer it during Covid. All Holiday Inn Express hotels have breakfast, even a grab and go option during Covid, so this is a disappointment to say the least. Bad management didn't give us a discount, we had to go through Priceline.

Hi Matt W, Thanks for your review and for staying with us. We aim to provide the brilliant basics, and a little more where it matters most for all our guests. Due to the unique situation we are in, we have limited amenities and services in place. I am sorry for your dismay. I hope this will not deter you from choosing us again for your future travel needs. Wasn’t the worst place we’ve ever stayed, but based on a Holiday Express Stay in Virginia we were expecting much better. The Virginia one we stayed at last year smelled clean, had floors instead of carpeting in rooms, and much nicer bathrooms, bigger dining area. This hotel didn’t seem as clean, and although it said updated, what appeared to be flooring in pictures of rooms was carpet and bathrooms had corners of mildew.
Upon arrival the room they assigned us to on first floor had a horrid strong chemical smell and windows were open, room freezing. We couldn’t shut windows or turn on heat and carpet looked stained. My husband immediately said something to front desk and he apologized up and down and offered us a 3rd floor handicapped accessible room which looked and smelled much better. So I will commend them for that.
Beds were a lot lower to floor due to that which he had warned us of, but super uncomfortable mattresses. The bathroom tile also had what looked to be dark staining but when I wiped at it, it was grimey dirt, so floor hadn’t been washed or not well if it had. No cover for ice bucket, and lack of towels was incredible. Four of us but only two sets of towels which we figured was due to room switch and not a big deal so we called for more. Never got them. Pool area, no towels either morning or evening so wasn’t just that they couldn’t keep up with the busy day. Day #2 had to call 3 times before we were finally brought towels in the late afternoon which was still an inadequate number for number of guests. Very frustrating.
We understood it was a busy school vacation week for them, but doesn’t seem they were prepared or had proper help. Pool and hot tub were smaller but warm and kids enjoyed but you could tell based on amount of hair floating and mud on floors for three days straight that the area was not regularly cleaned.
I think we’re done with Holiday Express for a while and will pay the money for more comfortable, cleaner hotel with TOWELS.

Stayed two nights. Rooms (we had 3) and bathrooms were very clean, no complaints. Picked this hotel for location and no pet policy (many hotels in the area allow pets, nothing against pets but we travelled with a baby so preferred no pets). We didn't have time to use the pool (just note it's a bit small) but looked nice and clean. For a short stay there is no housekeeping, but that's fine with us. Anything you need just ask at the front desk. Sorry didn't get the names of the front desk workers but both were very nice/professional/helpful. We didn't use the grab and go breakfast (ate breakfast at nearby restaurants, plenty to choose from), will be nice when the free continental breakfast returns. If we come to Mystic again would stay at the Holiday Inn again. Highly recommend :)

The hotel is clean and within walking distance to the Aquarium and Village.
The worlds most comfortable hotel bed of all time, even better than fancier hotels.
Grab & go breakfast was a perfect start to a long day with the kids.
The pool area needs some attention. The water was murky and had a slight odor.
My biggest issue and request is that the hotel please do something about the *VERY* slippery and dangerous pool tiles. My son fell hard and several other kids and adults…all just walking or getting out of the pool. The slippery tiles are a very dangerous hazard. Please place some rubber mats around the area surrounding the pool so no one gets hurt.

I read a few recent negative reviews of the HI Express, so wasn't too sure what to expect. First of all, I checked in early, and room was ready. My requests for 3rd floor, quiet room, away from elevator were all granted. The room was very clean and smelled good, for me that's the most important thing. I always pull back the sheets to make sure bedding is fresh and it definitely was. We did have an issue with the shower drain and someone came to check it promptly. We were offered another room, but chose to sleep in that one and if we had to move in the morning we would. It was fixed promplty in the morning, so it was then a non issue.

Have to say, the mattress was wonderful and slept great.

The people working at the front desk were all friendly and never an issue asking for extra towels, etc.

The breakfast was fine, and coffee or tea was available 7/24.

I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Booking last minute cost us pretty penny, but what a disappointment that was. It has good location but you can see that the owner is pinching pennies, especially on breakfast. Breakfast was absolutely awful. I think they use cleaning personeel to cook and serve breakfast, because no self respecting chef would ever serve burned eggs like that. Old bagels, toast some rotten fruit. No good. First room was facing the building with no sun light coming through, changed the room to first floor facing the parking lot with people always asking by. Awful. Hyatt around the corner was much better in our precious stay but not available this time. I do not recommend. Looks like they try to run operation with minimal personnel.

We stayed here last week, while we usually opt for Hilton’s, we chose HOE because others were sold out.
We had 2 rooms...The beds were the most comfortable beds we slept in on a 10 day roadtrip with new hotels most nights. I wish it was in downtown mystic near water but they were located just off 95 across from mystic diner.
Staff friendly/helpful, clean room, area felt safe, pool and hot tub/ gym if you are looking for that snd the breakfast was ok (so upset that they don’t do cinnamon rolls anymore 😂) standard free breakfast hotel food...drive to waterfront was short.

We came in from Harford early they had no room for us. A young girl was at the desk she was not very helpful as if to say go away and come back when we are ready for you!! So we went to Mystic Pizza to wait it out! We came back only to find no carts to help with our luggage (found out they only have two for the whole hotel and I swear people sleep with them!! Not sure why they only have two when they sell out their hotels all the time very strange. I also wanted to add same girl checked us in and also told us AFTER I gave her my credit card they were hold $100 for incidentals. what am I going to say after she already put it on my card? No? Though as rude as she was Jake was great!! The only reason I am giving this Hotel 4 stars. yuk to the bag breakfast.

It’s not very easy to get across without driving. It’s like a highway not a regular road. But it’s a quick drive and you can walk around the shops once you are over there.
