I don't understand the negative reviews. For this Englishman a 3-night stay at the Duncan was pure delight. Large, comfortable clean room. Charming, relaxing reception area. Friendly, helpful staff. Superb location right beside the Yale campus, with stunning art galleries just yards away. I can't recommend it highly enough! Thomas Steel

The Duncan is kind of a dump but it's the most conveniently located hotel in New Haven (well tied with the Study, which is next door and expensive) and unlike the Marriott is not abutting a bad area or like the New Haven Hotel or Omni on the annoying club strip. I always stash Moms here and she loves it....

Devastated dirty stinking rooms. Terrible place to stay. We were supposed to stay for two nights. But after one night, we moved next door to the wonderful Hotel Study. The room was a smoking room and it was like sleeping in an ashtray. In the middle of the night a man went crazy and started to scream. So no sleep....

This is a great place for those on a budget who are open minded enough to appreciate what is on offer.. A grand hotel from the turn of the (last) century with quirky charms and a friendly staff, with a great location. My room was clean and quiet with a comfortable bed, the classic neon sign was a perfect night...

If you are looking for a glossy snobby place to stay, this is not it. It could be called run down, dated, but we found it charming. It was clean, the staff were great once you broke the ice, and its in a great location. Be aware of what it is, and don't complain if you expect something else. Have...

I was in town taking a tour of the Yale campus and boy, was this a treat! Yes it's old, but that's part of the charm. If I wanted a Hilton and I would have stayed in a Hilton. Everyone was very polite. I never heard any other guests and I was seconds from the New Haven night life. I'm...

Yes, it's old, historic and you have to walk up and down stairs or go via the rickety, elevator, but someone does all the work of running it for you, so it's fun. My room was spacious, clean, comfortable. The bed was comfortable. No wifi of its own, but spillover from nearby is available if you point in the right...

$80/night in the center of New Haven, steps from the Yale Campus, museums, great restaurants. You could pay $280/night to stay at The Study next door. So don't make your reservation at The Duncan if you really want The Study, and don't think you're going to get $280 center-city accommodations at $80. Be realistic. Second, some reviews say it reminds...
