We stayed here for 2 nights, mostly due to location. We were getting the ferry to the Hamptons in the morning, and this was a 5-minute drive from the Ferry port!
Reviews were hit & miss, but as I was only going to be there to sleep & not spend a long time in the room, I figured it worth booking here for the cheaper price over the next-door Clarion Inn.

We checked in and was allocated a room on the second floor. The main thing I’d comment on is that we booked a non-smoking room, and it had a definite smell of lingering smoke. It was quite over-powering, but we didn’t bother to complain nor ask to be moved so that’s on us. Aside from the smell of cigarettes, the room itself was clean and a great size. It had a small kitchenette which I hadn’t expected. The Fridge was great to have, though we didn’t use the oven to know if that worked or not. The hotel felt safe as you needed your room key to get in from the outside doors. Some comments on here see this as a downside for food deliveries, but added safety is always a bonus in my eyes.

The stay itself was fine – the bed was comfortable and there were no issues with noise from other rooms. On one night there was a car outside playing the music crazy-loud, but it stopped after a while so didn’t ruin my sleep.

Overall, there are no doubt nicer motels, but I was happy with the stay for the 2 nights I was here. My 4* rating is based off my experience against expectation - I knocked a star off for the smoking smell in my room.

The rooms are a nice size, very clean. The prices were on target for other hotels in the area-very centerally located to anything you would need in the area. Updated, staff was friendly. You may be able to find a discount online.

This was sufficient for our very short stay. The hotel looks and smells clean. There is a mini kitchen with stove, microwave, refrigerator, etc. Very convenient.

If you are a coffee lover, you will be disappointed. There is no coffee maker in the room.

The front desk staff was very helpful and it is perfectly located if you are going to the ferry...only about 5 min drive. It has a shopping center close by so you can get something to eat or grocery shop. The rooms are a nice size and are exactly as pictured. Our room had a kitchenette but no plates, cutlery etc. We stayed on a Saturday night as it was the least expensive lodging close to the ferry. It could do with a good clean, the doors need a good wipe down and our bathroom had hair matted behind the bathroom door and in all the crevices.

Terrible! Smells. Dirty. Full kitchen but no pots or pans. No plates or utensils. I would have not used it anyways. It’s disgusting. Mole in the bathroom. I recommend pay for another hotel a few miles up the road.

There are no elevators so you must schlep your luggage up the stairs. The rooms are large but VERY outdated. The kitchenette is just nasty. The bathroom way outdated and in need of repair. A decent location but not a necessarily lots to do in the immediate area.

After an unfortunate event that led me, and my 4 Military Dependent Children to be placed in this "Motel/Hotel", for our safety, I was exhausted after being here for 1 month. The only pleasant people in this establishment are the wonderful Spanish speaking cleaning women. This is Family Owned, by an Indian Family. The Wife is the one in charge of the front desk more than the Husband, and their son. I still don't know her name. She does not like to talk too much, and she dislikes children. She tried to move me from my room after it was paid for in advance for the whole weekend, blaming her "Computer" for reserving the room. What kind of computer program reserves a room that has already been booked? She wanted to change me upstairs to a smoking room, to which I stated firmly, "No happening, I have a 6 year old with Asthma". Thankfully she didn't change me. She kept asking me to tell my children not to run. I promise you, they were not running 24/7. There were other people here in this hotel....surprisingly with children too..oh my, yes, other people with children, my heavens. For some odd reason she though it was my children 24/7. I have lived all over the world, Hawaii, Sasebo, Japan, never have I experienced a service this bad. Continental Breakfast? Sometimes, not always, and when it is there on Saturday and Sundays, it's only Banana's, Apples, Croissants and the smallest donuts in the world. I had 4 children and myself, so I got portions appropriate for each person, at least 1 banana, 1 apple, 1 croissant, and at least 3 little donuts each, to fill us up. Boy, she was there, telling us.....to please not eat or take it all. Apparently she doesn't do a head count of all her guests staying in her hotel, that or, she can't afford to buy enough breakfast items. We only had one occasion, when she took out more items for the kids, when they went to the front, and there was hardly anything left. That was a miracle. Today we are leaving, because she called the organization that is paying for my room and told them a lie that all of the rooms were booked...just to get us out of here. I believe that she considers this her home....she lives here on the top floor. She is extremely sad, and upset a lot of the time. Her hair is messed up just like the blankets that she still uses for her rooms are messed up....and full of cigarette holes. There is no coffee pots in the rooms, no blow dryer, just an iron. Room #160's bathtub does not work, you can't take a nice, and relaxing bath. The are where the water runs out off is stuck in a way that....I can't explain. It just does...not....work. The towels have holes in them, and the cleaning ladies sometimes don't even clean your room. She only has 2, and sometimes....they are sick....at the same time. I tried to make conversations with the front office woman without a name, but, in the end, I gave up. 1 month of trying. I thank God that she lied to get us out of here. They are placing me in a different Hotel with a POOL and a acres of land with benches, and areas to actually sit! The only good thing to this place is that it had a little old kitchen...I needed that. It also has Shop Rite up the hill and I could walk to it whenever I needed groceries. Being without a car at this time with 4 kids, it was a must have. Please.....find....a...different....place...to....stay.

We are very sorry that you were not happy with your stay at our Americas Beat Value Inn. We have a very nice property here and our guests love it. We always try to accommodate our guests so that they have a pleasant stay but in this case, you reservations were booked one night at a time. The organization that books your rooms calls us directly. Unfortunately when they only book one room at a time we keep our reaervations system open to take reaervations for the next day. That is when we had to move you one weekend because we had already had reservations come in for that room, when you notified us that you would be staying. The only room we thought we had was a smoking room so in order to keep you in the hotel for that weekend, we thought we had to ask you to move there. But we did manage to put another guest in that smoking room and keep you happy in your original room. I am sorry that you thought that I was being unreasonable by asking your children to stop running in the hallways, but I was worried for their safety being out in the hallway on their own and concerned for our other guests privacy and comfort. When your children were throwing the pebbles in the parking lot I was worried more for the vehicles in the parking lot and peoples's safety. Since you have been here we have done alot of work on the propergy and we think you would love the improvements. Our rooms are modern, and trendy and we pride ourselves on our fantastic housekeeping team. We are glad you found another place that makes you feel comfortable...it sounds very nice.

I always book a room here, when I have visitors. ( I have cats and, well, some people don't!) So, my "go to" hotel is AmericasBest, (formally The Red Carpet Inn.) NOT the Red Roof Inn, across the street.
My family has been staying there for the past several years. Believe me, if there were any problems with, staff or unclean rooms, etc, I would hear about it.
It is "no frills." No restaurant or pool or room service. But, it is about 5-15 min, drive from all New London has to offer.
Ocean Beach, the "historic" New London waterfront, train station. The ferries to Block Island, Fishers Island, etc. "Historic" State St, (Google it, Prohibition era,) At the end of State St, you can see the water, Imagine what when on!
The owner (Dee,) is very nice and helpful. The last time my sister stayed she lost an earring. 4 months later, I stopped in to book a room. Dee had found the earring and kept it safe. She told me, she tried to contact, but, only had a work number. She knew where I worked and was about to go there to see me. Not a big deal, but nice.
They are competitive with price. All rooms have a "Kitchenette," table, stove, micro, sink, cupboards w/ some utensils. No coffee pots, in rooms, but one in lobby. So, bring your own. They have updated rooms with, new curtains, carpets, bed spreads, etc.
They are "pet friendly." With notice, well behaved pets and usually only small dogs, or cats, (with carriers.) There is a fee.
They are located around the corner from a shopping mall. ShopRite, ACMoore, PetSmart, Panda Buffet, etc. So, there is enough to fill your needs.

I was scared when I first got here because the outside looks run down. But once I got into the hall it smelled very clean. The walls are also freshly painted. Once I got in the room it smelled great and is very clean. Big comfortable bed with 4 nice soft phillows. There is also a fridge stove and refrigerator. I was happily surprised. Great value for the money.
