In all honesty, I would probably give this place 3.5 out of 4 - but overall it was a nice time. Positives: the views are stunning. Hopefully you go when the weather is nice and you can sit outside, relax and enjoy the views. Location: it's right next to a super cute vineyard, so it's the perfect place to enjoy a relaxing day in the fall, have a few wines and not have to travel far Restaurant: it's nice that there's a restaurant onsite complete with an outdoor patio and indoor fireplaces. It's very quant and charming. It was nice to take a jog/walk around the lake in the morning too. Staff was very friendly overall. Food at the restaurant was good too - loved the French Onion soup and the garlic bread - perfect for cool weather! Negatives: I found the bed to be super uncomfortable. I didn't love that the bathroom was across the hall - but I knew that was the situation when I booked it. No TVs in the room. Okay, I get it, 'relaxing' old antique house, but c'mon, we can't put a TV in the room?! I'm in my 30s and I will say, it's a place probably meant for someone in my parents age group (60+), but it was a super nice and relaxing & having the vineyard right across the street was awesome. Also, the parking sucked. They share a lot with the vineyard and I parked super far, up a hill, and it was a little muddy and a bit annoying having to trudge down the hill with luggage.…
My wife and I stayed at the Hopkins Inn at the end of October and had a very pleasant time. Our room, overlooking the dining patio, was comfortable, although with a comically small bathroom and shower and few amenities. That's OK, since, we wanted a Fall stay in the country, but some travelers may have found things too spartan. The inn's restaurant is quite good, and we had a delightful dinner the first night on the patio, as leaves fell on and around our table. The views from the inn are wonderful, as is the 8-mile drive circling Lake Waramaug. For travelers who don't need luxury, the Hopkins Inn provides just the right New England Experience.
I had spoken at length to the waitlist no keeper, Beth, a charming vivacious woman in August and I said we will be visiting our only son at Canterbury for the first time. She shared with me her insights of the area and chose a room 15 for us. The view was outrageous and outstanding! We were right on Lake a Waramaug. It is a picturesque lake and the inn is idyllic built in 1847. It oozes history and charm!!! Thanks hated to leave. We had the most spectacular breakfast is buttermilk pancakes warm fresh syrup and fresh hot coffee. I truthfully can’t wait to return to the warmth and hospitality!!! Next time my first stop will Be Hopkins Vineyards!!!!
By far, the best thing about this restaurant is the location. It sits on a hill overlooking a beautiful lake. The food is okay and actually was better this year. There is also a winery on the premises which is fun to browse.
I took my party to the Hopkins Inn on Labor Day Sunday early in the evening after an event at Limerock Raceway. We had a perfectly lovely evening to sit outside and I put name in for a table. We had a very reasonable 30 min wait. When we ordered the wine, the bin number we requested was empty and we had to make an alternate selection, no big deal. The appetizers were just ok, but acceptable. The main course was again acceptable but not fantastic. Deserts were good. Our issue came when the hostess asked us to please leave our table because she had another party that she needed to seat in our place. We weren't even finished with our coffee, however the $300.00 bill had been paid including a 20% tip. I was imeadiately put of by being ask to leave, but didn't address the issue as I should have because of my guests. They felt uncomfortable as well. Needless to say, I would be hard pressed to go back for either a personal or business event. I would not recommend this venue. That is just bad business.....…
