Detailed Reviews
The guy behind the counter was nice. Our original room smelled a bit musty and he moved us to another room. Room was big and clean, beds were comfy. Bathroom was recently redone and nice. Room had a refrigerator, microwave, coffee pot and small table with two chairs. Would have gotten 4 stars except for it's location. It's about 100 yards from I-95 on a one way road. You hear the traffic noise while in the bathroom of your room through both doors. It's a motel not a hotel. It's a constant noise. In addition there is nothing within walking distance. Restaurants are about a mile drive to them but more like 4 miles back because of the one way road.

I stayed here two nights over the 4th of July weekend. It was just right for one person. The office is nice- clean and small and people were there even at night. No breakfast right now due to COVID. Vending machines outside the office are old and gross looking. My room was on the second floor overlooking the parking lot. a/c is a single unit built into the wall and keeps the room very cold. Tiny room was clean and furnished with a mini fridge and microwave. The bed had new linens just as the picture shows. It's piled high with pillows of various firmness. The bathroom is super tiny. My sister pointed out the musty old motel smell would make her asthma go haywire and her husband can not stay here as it is not ADA/PTSD veteran compatible. The super tiny bathroom wouldn't fit him and is not good for PTSD sufferers. None of those things were a concern just for me for a place to sleep. The wifi worked well. I didn't hear much highway noise. The one thing I did not like was housekeeping coming and knocking on the door while I was sleeping. This place did not have "do not disturb" signs. I goofed and accidentally booked 2 nights instead of three and forgot. The office called to wake me up and tell me it was time to check out. They were not upset or mean about my being a little late. I liked this place better than the motel I usually stay at and would probably stay here again.

stayed here one night for a wedding in Old Saybrook. Cheapest option, and we weren't using it for more than a place to change clothes and sleep. Yes it's dated, but the air conditioning worked great, bathroom was clean and updated, and manager on duty was nice. What else could you want/need from a motel on the highway?

AT $89 per night, a very good value. I rate it "excellent" only in relation to the price I paid -- it's just a place to sleep. The room was well cleaned and well maintained. The uncarpeted floor was spectacularly clean -- no dirt revealed by wiping a wet paper towel on it. The motel is mom and pop, like most off-brand motels, with a proprietor who sleeps behind a wall at the front desk and greets guests behind bullet-resistant glass late at night. (But the area did not feel unsafe to me.) I was grateful that he did not question my request for three extra blankets in summer, as most low budget motels do. He also accommodated my request to arrive late (10:30) even though he had planned to be in bed by that time. I did not eat or see the breakfast, but based on the very limited counter space I did see, I assume that it was a very limited selection of carbohydrates, as is usual for most included breakfasts. It was an overall good enough experience that it is in my Rolodex for my next visit to Old Saybrook.

The two stars include the convenient location, the cleanliness, and the inclusion of a microwave and a fridge.
It was pretty noisy all night. It's right next to an I95 exit so the trucks roared all night. Also, the people in the room above had conversations that were clearly overheard, and every step they took was noticeable. The was also a periodic whine from some device (plumbing?) during the night that kept us waking up.
Their cleaning crew left a few things to be desired. One towel was missing and one had a giant hole in it. And there was a light out in the bathroom.
I know Old Saybrook is lacking in a good hotel, save the one for $500, but this one just doesn't measure up.

I planned a last minute trip to bring my kids to see “A day out with Thomas” and made all arrangements online the weekend prior. I was not familiar with the area at all so I just tried to find a hotel close to the Essex train station. I’m so happy I found The Liberty Inn. I really wanted to bring our dog with us as well, and Liberty Inn states “pet friendly”. After booking the room online, I noticed that only some rooms are pet friendly, so I called to find out more info. The owner answered immediately and was super nice. I was made aware that the pet friendly room only had one king size bed rather then 2 queens as I had reserved. I was bringing my 3 kids so I had reserved the room with 2 beds. I explained the situation and the owner said “let me see what I can do and I’ll call you back”. He called me back within the hour, and had made arrangements for a roll away bed to be put into one of the pet friendly rooms so we would have enough sleeping space. Everything worked out perfectly. The room was clean, the AC worked extremely well, and the owners were exceptionally friendly and accommodating. I most definitely would come back to stay here and I will also tell my family and friends about it as well. Thank you for helping to make our weekend an extra special one :-)

We had a storm and a power outage. I couldn’t find a hotel because they were already all booked. The only one left was The Liberty Inn. I booked it. I have driven by this hotel for 30 years and have never been inside. I was pleasantly surprised. The room was clean. Their bathroom was spotless. The WiFi and cable were beyond my expectations. They had every channel. The beds.....wow. The beds were brand new and more comfortable than my own bed. Then, the Owners.... The Owners were so kind and even refunded me the day I had booked, but wanted to leave because our power was restored. They were so kind and accommodating. I would definitely stay here. To the Owners: THANK YOU SO MUCH!

The Liberty Inn is perfect, quiet low-key. It is very
clean and basic, reminds me of a beach house. The
management is very nice.
I love staying here!
It's near a highway, but also has a secluded feeling.
I have not been bothered by any noise.
If you like clean, basic and serene (as I do) you will enjoy your stay!

After a long day driving, we arrived at the Liberty Inn. The room was large, modern and clean. Best of all, the bed was the most comfortable we have slept in while on the road 5 days! Had a great night sleep and felt well rested for the next leg of our journey. Easy on and off I 95 too! Great selection of restaurants nearby.
