Nestled on the Long Island Sound, Water's Edge Resort & Spa charms many guests with its scenic location and easy access to nearby attractions. The hotel's amenities, including its landscaped grounds and beach access, are a hit, although some visitors find them to be slightly outdated. While the staff often receives compliments for their attentiveness, opinions are mixed concerning value, with some guests feeling services are overpriced given the dated nature of the rooms. Cleanliness is a strong point, yet the hotel's atmosphere and room amenities might benefit from a refresh to meet contemporary expectations.

We chose to stay at Water's Edge because of the adherence to best practices during COVID-19. The private amenities appealed to us, though we did not end up using them. The private beach was tiny and appeared crowded, so we stayed away, opting for some local state parks instead. Guests inside the hotel were responsible about masks, but outdoor many people were in groups not wearing them in areas where the hotel had required them.

There are plenty of dining options with pretty similar menus - our service sitting outside at the sunset grill was pleasant.

We had massages at the spa. Staff were friendly and adhered to all best practices. Would definitely have services here again!

Our room was very spacious and included a large outdoor patio which was nice, but the room is in serious need of some love. Many outlets did not work, there were water stains on the bathroom floor, the toilet wobbled when using it, etc. The condition was less than we expected for a resort. Housekeeping left the room clean daily, but did not restock any amenities. Not sure if this is because of COVID but for items used daily like cups, it was frustrating to run out.

The area is lovely overall and we would love to return to Connecticut post-COVID to explore more. Our stay at Water's Edge was "OK"; we'd probably try another hotel on a return visit to the state.

December 2019 I have had a chance to stay at Water's Edge Resort and Spa for a few days with my wife and it was and excellent moment overall. The location was great and very convenient with stores and shopping malls around. The outside of the hotel was nicely decorated and super clean for the holiday season with tree lights all over, the welcome at the main entrance was very wormed all the way to the front desk, the entire building was beautiful in the inside, except that, we were having some wifi issues were our room was actually located. The breakfast was great and as well as the restaurant staff. I'm sure a a summer visit would be much more fun and beautiful as we didn't get a chance to enjoy the beach in the back of the resort. Referring Water's Edge Resort and Spa to a married couple would be a good thing and enjoyable.

3 friends stayed in a two room suite and 4 stayed in a two room suite right next door. The rooms were clean. However, I needed to ask for wash cloths. Housekeeping cleaned the room and again, did not stock wash cloths.
We had a beautiful oceanfront view.

They had an enjoyable band Wednesday evening, Guests enjoyed dancing.

Making dinner reservations was a bit challenging. Upon arrival we called to make reservations. The associate advised there was nothing available for the times we desired.
Later, we were walking around and made reservations in person for the next two nights. We wanted dinner for 7 between 6 and 7 pm at Datillo’s. They did not have dinner for the next night however, they did the second night at 7 pm. We reserved dinner for the second night. Seaview Bistro and Sunset Grill did not need reservations-It’s first come first serve. So, the first night we dined at Seaview Bistro. While dining, I received a phone call regarding our 7 pm reservation at Datillo’s inquiring whether we will be coming for dinner. I got up in the middle of my meal and walked to the desk and said the reservation was for the next night. The associate was confused, I explained the situation and she apologized. Now I need to make the reservation again. This time the only time slot available was 8:15. We took it. The next day, I called to confirm reservations and inquired for an earlier time slot. They did have 6:45 available. We took it. I did notice while dining at the Seaview Bistro and at Datillo’s that there were many empty tables at Datillo’s. I’m not sure if the restaurant is short-handed or if their computer software is not working as it should. I don’t understand why we were not originally able to reserve as desired.

In addition, we noticed that although the restaurants are separate, their menus are practically identical. The only difference is Datillo’s charges more because the restaurant is considered “fine dining” and they use tablecloths.

Water's Edge Resort can actually be called a resort with all the amenities available. The two bedroom unit we stayed in was very large and well appointed. The balcony had a nice view of the water. Took advantage of the two restaurants and bar for their nightly specials. The Monday night lobster dinner special was especially good. The staff and servers were all professional and personable. The massive king bed was extremely comfortable.

Stayed at Water’s Edge for a wedding (at another resort nearby) originally planned 3 nights but opted to check out after the first.

The good: location, right on the ocean, the grounds were well maintained, front desk staff was helpful and restaurant staff was pleasant.

The bad: cleanliness of the room was questionable, bathroom looked like it was just wiped down with no real cleaning, stains around the drain, phone on the wall was two different colors. Rooms are in desperate need of a remodel. Very dated and dark, also no effort for sound proofing, our room was close to the elevator and we heard everyone’s conversation all night long. No ventilation in the bathroom. The food was very sub par, ordered calamari in the lobby bar, came out barely fried and was so chewy and fishy we couldn’t finish it, ordered the hummus plate and we all laughed at the presentation, like someone threw a spoonful on a plate with a literal handful of pita chips and a few carrot/celery sticks. Then went to dinner where there was (terrible) live music being played far too loud, also a wedding going on and the performer was walking around complaining that he had to stop so they could do speeches (lol), he came back and cranked up the volume, people getting up and dancing without masks on, felt very uncomfortable given the pandemic and also just uncomfortable to watch these characters sensually dance to his rendition of Barry White’s “Can’t get enough of your love baby” The staff, very young but pleasant enough, had no radar while customers were dining “f this and f that are you f’ing kidding me” we’re not sensitive and we honestly had a good laugh about all of it but was shocked that there was no management presence or direction in either dining venue.

The unknown: we didn’t use the pool or beachside area both looked very nice but can’t speak to service etc in that area. The Italian restaurant menu looked great, but was unfortunately sold out so will never know.

I had heard good things from friends who had a timeshare here years ago but I can’t say I would come back, or recommend it.

My suggestion to ownership is to retrain the staff, invest in a culinary director with some skill and invest capital into a room renovation, or this resort will quickly be only a memory.

Where do I begin? My wife and I have traveled the world trading our Platinum week Marriott timeshare with Interval International enjoying wonderful experiences, beautiful rooms (Studios, 1BD, 2BD) lovely views, sometimes spectacular views, and yes, views that were not so nice. And in every case, our rooms were at least clean, well kept and livable. Our 1BD was like camping in a dirty, unkept, in need of much renovation cabin. Our “view” was looking through an overgrown bush onto a back road with a dirty, filthy railing. The walls are paper thin so that both families’ conversations and babies crying on either side of our unit were heard easily. The room is dark and damp. We turned on the heat on an 85 degree day to see if we could get rid of the dampness. At the very least, fresh paint and a vacuum would have made it somewhat bearable. It was a limited kitchen, which we knew beforehand but no coffee filters or a small packet of coffee to make the first pot in the morning? And to connect the coffee pot to the electrical outlet, you have to place the pot on the electric stove top. Forget about cooking eggs/bacon and drinking coffee….you either do one or the other. And, you know those little Palmolive green liquid dish soap containers every timeshare provides? They provide one but it has been refilled with watered-down Palmolive! We ate dinner off property and then came back to hear some music but left after a few minutes when we saw an octogenarian dancing in front of the singer by himself thinking that everyone must have wanted to see him dance more than listen to the music….too bad since the music was very good. We booked this timeshare for a week but are leaving after only one night’s stay…..the first time ever!

The views are amazing and from the outside the resort looks beautiful, however looks can be deceiving. The woman at the front desk when we checked in was really useless. She could clearly see my husband and I, along with our toddler (in his stroller) and she tells me that our room is on the 2nd floor of this little building across from the main building. She neglects to say (until I asked) that there’s no elevator in the building. The only option for a ground floor or building with an elevator was $75 more a night. Um, based on what I was already paying, I wasn’t doing that. We get to our room - a king parlor with balcony - and find that the balcony furniture is all rusted and OLD, no way to sit outside. Then discover that the only air conditioner is in the parlor portion of the room so no air gets to the bed. It was 95° out. The room also only had one working outlet.

The beach is okay but soooo small and the chairs fill up quickly. At 10:00 there were no chairs available. The pool is nice but also really small for the amount of people trying to use it. There is also no one watching the pool and stopping kids from jumping in (on to other people). The flies at the pool were brutal and biting us.

Now, I could deal with all the above but dinner was AWFUL. There were 7 of us for dinner - 4 adults and 3 toddlers. They made no secret of putting us at the very last table in the restaurant on the bottom floor to keep us away from the other guests. (Whatever, we laughed about it) The food was disgusting. The mussels had no flavor, the meatballs were burnt, the steak was gross, etc. We spent $400 on food that I wouldn’t spend $40 on. Prior to dinner, we talked about coming again in August but that’s definitely not happening.

For a one night stay it was fine. I don’t think I would have lasted longer.

Although the COVID-19 was still impacting everyone, management and staff at Water's Edge make us feel safe and comfortable. All areas were sparkling clean and everyone, staff and guests all wore masks at all times. The indoor pool and hot tub were open, and social distancing and limited guests made it a safe area to relax.
We had a unit with a loft that was like an additdional bedroom. Not all units have water view, but we had a nice angle to see Long Island Sound and the beautiful grounds of the complex.
The dining room was fantastic with happy hour prices and discounts for owners. Service was perfect and the food was well-prepared by world-class chefs. They also have many outside dining areas, all with fantastic views of the water and beautiful landscaped grounds.
Staff was very accommodating, especially our server, Stephenie, and front desk people, Josh, Becky, and Jordon.
In season, visitors can enjoy the sandy beach and outdoor pool. It was fun to justd stroll around the hilly grounds and take scenic photos. I could go on, but I think you get the idea.
It was a great trip and exceeded our expectations. Many attractions also in the area to keep you busy.

We booked here under the assumption that it would offer upscale accommodations and service. It wasn’t that at all.

The Good: Beautiful sprawling resort on the water with several restaurants and all the amenities you would expect at a resort of this level. Check in was great, bell services were terrific and the staff was very pleasant. We were wowed by the interior lobby and the views of the ocean.

The Bad: The Room was a standard King with a view of the parking area. The room is very plain with outdated decor and fixtures. Toilet was loose and rocking back and forth, faucet was dripping, no grab bars in shower , shower valve handle takes some effort to get temperature right. Closet doors old and falling off track, electrical outlets are shot and don’t hold a plug, noisy AC , light bulbs burnt out, and the biggest issue was rude and loud guests staying above us running back and forth day and night. The room offers no sound dampening properties. For what we paid we expected more. This room is more on the level of Best Western hotel.

The Ugly: Service and food quality very poor and overpriced (we expect to pay more at a resort but should get far better quality and portions) . Our first day we were seated at a high top and waited 10 minutes for a server to greet us. She didn’t bring menus so we had to ask for that and waited some more. We ordered drinks and waited what seemed like 5-10 minutes for them. It doesn’t take that long to make a drink and we were extremely patient and pleasant . Food is sub par, poorly prepared and presented and devoid of taste. We gave them a pass on service since it was our first day but this continued the entire trip. We cut our stay short so we could check out and go elsewhere. I can’t imagine people actually time share here!!

This is the perfect family vacation spot on the CT shore! Incredible ocean views inside and out, and a beautiful pool right next to the beach. Very helpful, friendly staff sets up beach umbrellas and there’s waiter service to bring drinks and sandwiches to the beach/pool. Really excellent service and great value compared to many comparable beach resorts in the area. There is also a beautiful lawn with ocean views and lawn games are out for use: corn hole, wiffle ball, volleyball. It’s a great balance of a boutique resort feel with the perfect selection of dining and amenities all within easy walking distance to the beach. We were traveling with small kids during the week and it was very family friendly. Thanks to all the excellent staff working here, especially the crew at the beach who was always so kind and helpful throughout our stay. Can’t wait to book next year’s trip back!

A few tips- You can rent ocean Kayaks at the beach but reserve them early in the day. Bring your own float or boogie board if your kids want them we didn’t see those for sale.

At low tide you can walk to explore a small offshore island. This is on the sound, very calm water and very shallow at low tide- perfect for little ones.

The pizza place next to the resort is also a great option if you are looking for quick takeout and there is a Starbucks vendor on site.
