I first came across the Highland Drove 12 years ago when I stayed next door at The Stables holiday cottage. Over a period of 4 holidays in 2 years I looked forward to the friendly atmosphere and the excellent food and hospitality as much as any other part of the holiday, which was ostensibly a walking holiday. On revisiting recently... More

A bit in the middle of nowhere but everything about my stay was great. Landlord, room, choice of ales, evening meal and breakfast. Really liked the place, Only problem is I have got to find a reason to go to that location again. I will try though.

We were staying in the village of Great Salkeld for my husbands birthday and decided to try the local pub for food. The upstairs restaurant is delightful with a highland theme. The staff and food were wonderful, thank you!

I stayed at the Highland drove for 4 nights whilst working at center parcs. I don't have a single complaint. The couple that own the place were lovely. The food was spot on and the room was really clean. I couldnt really ask for much more. I would definitely stay there again.

The owners (who were obviously very experienced) were extremely welcoming and the breakfast was one of the best. This had the feeling of a true local pub experience with a quaint village background. Clean, good value and a thoroughly pleasant stay. Everything you would need for a North Lakes base. We will be back!

We stayed in staffield hall a short drive away from here, originally we attempted to find pubs closer to us advised in the welcome book such as the crown inn but they were fully booked. However, this could not have worked out better as we then stumbled across this little beauty, from the moment we arrived Donald greeted us and... More

A secluded spot for a quiet getaway. I travelled here after a walk in the lakes and the accommodation, though in need of some updating was clean and comfortable. The dinner and breakfast were delicious and the service was friendly with Donald happy to accommodate requests wherever possible. I would return here but it's not ideally located if you want... Very nice country pub. What one really needs when doing the Coast to Coast is good food (yes) comfortable bed(yes) Value for money(yes). Peace and quiet for a good nights sleep (No) (The premises could do with sound proofing). The last thing that is needed is to be able to hear the locals talking very loudly until 2.30 in the... A wonderful friendly family run Inn -good food. Easy access to the most beautiful parts of the Lake District. Charming little Church. With a mild peal nearby. Ask for double bed if required.
